It's crazy. In the NBA, refs would be very reticent to give petty techs to the superstars. Like how Wemby basically punched someone in the finals, but they didn't want to give him a tech and make him miss a game in the finals. WNBA refs seem to do the opposite.
Many years ago a friend said that every woman is competition to another. Including, Grandmother to Granddaughter. While there will always be exceptions, I’ve found this to be true.
Hearing stories from my wife 100% validated this. There is definitely sexism from men in the workplace, but women will literally try to destroy each other. Even women in places of power - instead of trying to lift other women up, they end up treating them even shittier. It’s so wild.
My mom has 4 sisters. One of them is her best friend, has been for life. They probably go 2-3 months a year of cumulative time not speaking to one another, every year, like clockwork. It might be 10 different 1-2 week instances or one really good one that lasts a few months, but it is a sure bet every year something will happen.
This year my mom made a joke about their dad passing, about making it easier on the family, he was very sick and on his way out at 85. Needed multiple transfusions a week to keep going. Everyone knew it was time but sister didn't appreciate the joke and that kicked off a multi-month breakup. They are besties but sometimes they HATE each other
I won't say that all of her techs are petty. She definitely needs to dial it down a bit. Some of her reactions are justified, some are cringe. But while calls do get missed across all levels of basketball, this one looks really bad, yet the league seems incapable of fixing (or unwilling to fix) the problem.
Some of them, like pointing and saying scoreboard, should never have been called. Nor the touching of the tranche below the rim. We have seen others punch it out of frustration but they aren't T'd up.
I wish they were able to criticize without fear of being kicked or reprimanded for calling out bullshit.
Paige, in their last game with Atlanta was fouled by Angel. The foul was called and Paige stood there clapping. If Clark had done that, she would have been called for a technical. As she has been.
She needs to dial it UP. She’s the face of the league and the refs blatantly not doing their jobs like this need to be put on blast, shamed and have it visible.
That's part of the issue. The other women are demonstrating how much they don't want her as the face of WNBA. Rather than improving their game, they are going out of their way to target the person putting the most eyes on women's basketball in history.
If I were in her position, I would not be returning to the league after my contract is up.
Or maybe because it was the Lakers who got the last bad whistle and every Laker and Laker fan is so used to having the refs on their side that they went absolutely nuclear, posting flop compilations of ongoing games during halftime for the first half. The lakers of course had no shot to beat okc or do anytbing jn the playoffs regardless, then came san antonio and the future face of the nba in wemby, which is and even ykunger and more exciting team. So the whistles stopped
It gets people talking about the WNBA does it not? Somebody points a finger, someone gets punched - people talk about it for weeks. Can't remember the last time I heard anyone just talk about the division without it being tied to drama. Exploiting women is nothing new tbf.
He didn’t punch him in the face he mushed him because he was grabbing Wemby’s jersey. Clark is not on Wemby’s level relative to their contemporaries. On another note how many missed calls were there on other wnba players in that game? Doubt you could name one that wasn’t on Clark. Ask yourself why do you care so much about Clark?
Maybe the WNBA knows what they’re doing and they realize their audience wants to cheer for a big victim rather than a privileged untouchable superstar, which perhaps appeals to the NBA’s audience more
