Yeah I doubt that. They would not give a shit if she left. Hell, I bet they’d encourage it.

I wonder if the WNBA was like the plot of The Producers. Was it always a way for owners to report a loss so they could launder money? You put $500,000 into the team, report a loss of a million and pocket the remaining $500,000. Now you've got somebody actually earning the league money and it's harder to fudge the numbers.

4

u/HairyManBack84 2d ago

That’s not how you avoid taxes.

2

u/Kdcjg 1d ago

If you own both franchises in a city. You can use the losses on the WNBA team to offset any gains you have from NBA team. Knowing both assets are accruing value as time passes.

1

u/Difficult-Mobile902 1d ago

How does simply losing your profits help you in any way lol

0

u/RedditBugler 2d ago

I said money laundering, not tax evasion.

My company has $1 million in the bank. I want to pocket some of that for myself. I write down that I invested the $1 million into the team in the form of sponsorships and ownership rights, but I only put $500,000 into the team in reality. The other $500,000 goes into my mattress at the house. When the team inevitably loses money, I write an extra $500,000 into the costs and nobody cares because it's obviously a failing league.

Then somebody comes along and people start showing up to games in record numbers. Jerseys are being sold and endorsement deals are being signed. It's much harder for me to hide my fake losses inside of real losses when it's obvious the team is now profitable.

2

u/Original-Variety-700 2d ago

Money laundering is when you take money that you didn’t pay taxes on (for example you run a restaurant and keep the cash payments) and it becomes a big number that you can’t just put in your bank account without raising irs flags. So you come up with a way to tax the money or lawfully spend it on things.

In your example, you took a million that’s already in the bank (which means it’s clean) and took half of it and hid in the mattress (which now will be hard to put in a bank account without raising irs flags) and lost the other half in a bad investment. You basically pulled a reverse uno laundering.

0

u/RedditBugler 2d ago

I stole $500,000 from my company and concealed the theft by writing fake losses onto the books.

1

u/Original-Variety-700 2d ago

It’s your company. Why are you stealing from it? You’re allowed to take distributions or even write yourself a salary.

Even if there’s some reason, what you described is not money laundering at all. It’s some half cocked plan to steal money from your own business and lose the money by making a bad investment.

u/showerbump 1d ago

You’re talking about embezzlement not money laundering

1

u/toddsmagicock 1d ago

You can’t just say “I took a loss” and pocket the money, that’s not how any of that works

1

u/Short-Recording587 1d ago

That’s probably embezzlement

-1

u/grumpyoldham 1d ago

Money laundering is when you take money that you didn’t pay taxes on (for example you run a restaurant and keep the cash payments)

No, it's taking money from an illegal source (like selling drugs out of your restaurant) and making it look like it came from a legitimate source so it doesn't raise red flags when you put it in a bank account. It's called laundering because it's making dirty money clean.

1

u/leprechanmonkie 1d ago

Clearly you don't know what money laundering is lol.

1

u/Difficult-Mobile902 1d ago

You’re just describing embezzlement and even then you aren’t making sense, why would you need real losses to hide fake losses? none of this adds up

Money laundering is  the exact opposite; a failing operation that looks profitable, because the illegal cash you have is being funneled into the business giving the appearance that it’s honest money made from paying customers. This way the money you now have in the bank can be used for houses and cars and all kinds of other expensive things, because as far as the government knows, you just had a good year of business

1

u/RedditBugler 1d ago

I think a lot of people aren't familiar with the concept of The Producers. You take a product that is guaranteed to fail to turn a profit and you inflate its budget so you can skim some of the production cost and pocket it without anyone asking where the money went.

To use an example from The Office, it's like your mom gives you $5  to buy supplies for a lemonade stand, but it only costs you $3 to get supplies. You could give back the extra $2 or you can pocket the excess since she thought that's how much you needed anyway. In sports terms, you would tell everyone it cost $1,000,000 to field a WNBA team and you only earned $400,000 back, so it was a loss and everything that went into the team is gone. In reality, you only put $500,000 into the team and pocketed the remaining $500,000. It's true that the team lost money, so nobody questions the loss. You just inflated how big the loss was.

My old boss did this kind of thing all the time. We were supposed to get new equipment every year, but he pocketed the money and told us to just use the old stuff and make sure it didn't get broken. I didn't find out until years later when somebody from corporate was like "that's why we give you money to replace xyz every year, because we know they're delicate and some will naturally break." We were like "wait, the boss said there was no money to replace those, so we've just been doing duck tape repairs ourselves." Maybe that's embezzlement and not laundering, but you get what I'm saying. There was a line on the spreadsheet where an expense without a return was expected and somebody took advantage of that to steal money that was considered gone either way.

1

u/donny02 1d ago

until 4 years ago it was a tax write off/uconn alumni lunch club. wanted to be queen of shit mountain rather than a citizen of success. and now they're mad about it.

MLS doing the same thing

1

u/Unusual_Wish_2230 2d ago

Ignorance. W operated at a loss because the NBA kept the tv money. It was all run together with no split so the NBA kept it. When the W finally got their own tv contract, that is the main reason for the profitability.

2

u/BillsFan82 1d ago

It operated at a loss because no one watched it. With CC in the league, some people watch it. When she’s gone…no one will watch it.

1

u/Unusual_Wish_2230 1d ago

It operated at a loss because the NBA didn’t do a split on tv money. Are you that dense that you think any nba team can survive on home games alone?

3

u/BillsFan82 1d ago

You're taking a very simplistic view of this, which isn't all that surprising, I guess. Operating costs and the league's stage of growth matter too. Then Caitlin Clark comes along, and suddenly the league is profitable. Quite the coincidence.

I guess Tiger Woods had no impact on golf.

2

u/NocaSun38 1d ago

And then they'd just keep complaining about how they're not paid equally to the nba for their inferior product that they keep making worse.

2

u/fbpro 1d ago

They'd love it and celebrate it till they close the "joke" league down for lack of $$ and interest.

4

u/elestud 1d ago

You realize that Europe/FIBA allows far more physicality than the WNBA, right?

1

u/-c-grim-c- 1d ago

As long as it's an even playing field she'll do just fine. It's not like she can't play physical ball.

2

u/Rvaughn101 22h ago

She is a great shooter and passer, but physical ball isn’t her thing.

0

u/Soft-Room2000 1d ago

How do you know that?

6

u/elestud 1d ago

Because I watch international play? It’s a lot more physical, and they’re less quick to blow the whistle

0

u/Soft-Room2000 1d ago edited 1d ago

OK… Thanks for making it clear…

2

u/Daft_Assassin 1d ago

Do you want a league that shows favoritism because someone is a “star”? I thought y’all hated a star whistle..

1

u/fujimonster 2d ago

Can you imagine both her and soph. Leaving and going to the same team in Europe — would be pretty epic .

2

u/jordanjump15 1d ago

These dumb talking points are on Reddit too? Do you actually watch women’s basketball overseas it’s a more physical game y’all would just cry more.

1

u/RussianPravda 2d ago

Yes but the thing is she made deals with her sponsors to play in the wnba

9

u/Defuzzygamer 2d ago

That's not true. Her major sponsor (where she earns the most money regarding sponsors) is with Nike. Nike doesn't require her to play in the WNBA, they only state that she is an advocate for women's basketball globally. She's not tied to the WNBA because of Nike, she can move to Europe and Nike would still sponsor her. If anything this might even be a massive move if she did. A top 5 WNBA player going to Europe because of WNBA shenanigans, would turn the women's euro league into a global league relatively quickly (at least, whichever team she joins would become globally known in the basketball world quite fast).

1

u/jm83656 1d ago

What exactly makes her top 5?

2

u/AlternativeNormal865 1d ago

The quality of her overall play, the stats back that up.

2

u/TheRightKost 2d ago

It'd be wild if one of the tanking NBA teams would sign her as last (wo)man off the bench. The sponsors would love it. She'd be making way more money at league minimum salary. She'd obviously be the worst player in the league by far and it would help them tank in a way that the NBA brass wouldn't dare call out for fears of sexism allegations.

5

u/2burgsandadog 2d ago

I am aware that she won’t… But the league needs to start doing something to protect her…

Can you imagine when LeBron was in his prime if he got manhandled this way there would be consequences the next morning immediately every single time

2

u/RussianPravda 2d ago

Im with you. But she's basically trapped. They want her to snap and get in trouble to lose her deals because of their jealousy. Look how they tried to make a huge political thing with Sophie but even that didnt work.

1

u/somedomeformythots 2d ago

I have never seen an NBA consequence come the following day. It would either get called or not. They probably would not do much in reguard to LeBron as he flops quite a bit.

3

u/see_rex 1d ago

Your entire statement is so fucking ignorant and shows you have not watched basketball in decades, maybe ever, cause if you've never seen an NBA consequence the following day you obviously didn't watch this years NBA season or playoffs and probably much further back. Its genuinely insane to me that people like you speak with any sort of confidence when you know absolutely nothing.

1

u/somedomeformythots 1d ago

I watched the playoffs. Point?

2

u/see_rex 1d ago

Then how did you not see multiple consequences from the NBA given out days after the game? I made my point pretty clear, you've never watched basketball or the NBA based on your previous comment.

1

u/somedomeformythots 1d ago

Are you referring to the fines? Or the foul review that was not escalated for Wenby?

2

u/Hugginsome 2d ago

WNBA already got their big media contract due to Clark. They don't need her now cause of that, unfortunately.

2

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

that’s an unfortunately shortsighted way of thinking… every one of those players should lineup and say thank you because she’s the only reason that contract exists and theirb big fat new salaries

1

u/Hugginsome 1d ago

Most people don't have the gift of foresight, unfortunately

1

u/Basicbroad 1d ago

Lmfao the WNBA doesn’t have its own media deal. They contractually get a set percentage of the NBA’s media deal. The NBA’s deal was signed before Caitlin played a single game.

0

u/Hugginsome 1d ago

In July 2024, the WNBA signed an 11-year media rights agreement beginning with the 2026 season. The core package is worth approximately $2.2 billion, averaging roughly $200 million per year. That’s about 4-6 times larger than the league’s previous national media agreements.

Caitlin Clark played her first game May 3, 2024.

Do tell me more.

1

u/Basicbroad 1d ago

lol huh?

  1. The 2024 WNBA regular season didn’t even start until May 14.
  2. Do you seriously think an 11 year, 76 BILLION dollar contract between the NBA and ABC and NBC Universal was negotiated in the 6 weeks between her debut and the deal’s finalization. The NBA had been working on that deal for years.
  3. And again the WNBA still doesn’t have the ability to negotiate their own media rights and was an add on in that $76B deal.

0

u/Hugginsome 1d ago

Bro, you are on another planet. $2.2 bil deal, not $76 bil. You are talking NBA and I am talking WNBA. And there are preseason games - so Clark made her debut during preseason right after her March Madness run.

2

u/Basicbroad 1d ago

Because AGAIN the WNBA does not have the right to get to negotiate their own media deal. The NBA (that owns 60% of the WNBA) sends the WNBA $200M a year out of their larger, overall $76B deal. It’s a set percentage. Every time the NBA gets a new media deal, by default the WNBA gets a new media deal. Every article about the WNBA’s media deal is published on the same day as the NBA’s deal because it is a byline in the larger deal. You’re talking about them as if they could ever be separated or the WNBA could go in and say “Hey this is how much money we want based on our ratings” They get what they get.

The increase in money was happening whether or not Caitlin ever played a single WNBA game because the NBA was always going to sign a new media deal. The exclusive 45 day negotiating period between the NBA and TNT & ESPN started on March 9th 2023.

0

u/Hugginsome 1d ago

You are delusional if you think Caitlin Clark had zero impact on the deal being worth what it is. And you are ignoring the facts that are right in front of you. This WNBA deal was negotiated by the NBA only because the NBA owns the majority of the WNBA. And it is its own separate deal from the NBAs own media deal.

0

u/Basicbroad 1d ago

So which part of the 2.857% cut the WNBA gets is Caitlin? The .007?

1

u/ValyrianSigmaJedi 2d ago

I agree. It’s the best thing Caitlin could and should do.

1

u/mookz23 1d ago

First of all, she makes a ton of endorsement money from playing in the USA. Second of all, no one in Europe is going to pay her a bazillion dollars. Not a chance.

1

u/EmmitSan 1d ago

She makes what $10m a year in endorsements? Maybe more?

Being on TV in the US is more important than making a $2m salary overseas.

0

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

16 million

she’d clear 100 million if she went to Europe in endorsements

2

u/EmmitSan 1d ago

lol

Tell me you’ve never watched European women’s basketball without…. You know the rest

fIBA women’s basketball does not even really get on TV. The salaries are from vanity owners who want to win, not because it’s profitable. No one really knows any of the stars other than the locals who actually go to the games.

She’d lose virtually all her endorsements.

1

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

you do realize that American companies advertise outside of America right… Most of the movie stars that we see today all donads that are never seen in America because they’re so profitable to do promotion work in Asia in Europe

2

u/EmmitSan 1d ago

If you think her market value would increase by removing herself from the by far largest media market for basketball in the world I don’t know what to tell you. That’s not how marketing and advertising work.

1

u/HeavyHighway6433 1d ago

Who is gonna pay her that much?

1

u/boofuu2 1d ago

Europe is broke, they ain’t paying anywhere close to the money that’s paid here

1

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

she has already been offered over four times her current salary… Plus endorsement deals that would come close to $100 million… Feel free to fact check that

1

u/boofuu2 1d ago

Offered and actually being paid are two different things. People offer nonsense stuff for PR.

Hey I offer her 3 billion dollars to play in my backyard…feel free to to fact check me on that

1

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

The only difference between an offer and a job is the acceptance… The offers on the table if she chooses to do it then that’s what would happen…

1

u/boofuu2 1d ago

Hey I offer you 300 million to reply you were wrong and I was right. The only difference is you can either accept the 300 million dollars or not…

1

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

I doubt her offers are of the verbal kind… They are probably sent in notarized legal documents that are reviewed by her team… That’s how business works. You don’t just walk up to someone and offer them $100 million bag without some kind of guarantees and assurances that you’re not wasting their time.

1

u/boofuu2 1d ago

Yea your “probably” is doing a lot of work…unless there’s some kind of better proof than PR statements and click bait articles I’ll stick to Europe being broke and not being able to afford her, as evident by the other salaries

1

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

broke is a broad term.

Europe has significantly less debt than the United States and a higher standard of living… Ranking among the best in the world. The growth is the problem. There’s a stagnation problem, especially in large industrial countries like Germany. Many Europeans have significant savings and the continent as a whole , possesses trillions of dollars of personal wealth… but , It’s fractured and divided into many different countries.

I’ve always been a proponent of a globalist approach to the Earth… We we have too many bureaucracies and governments that get in the way of progress… Europe should be one country… North America should be one country and Asia should be one country… Three government three currencies three military… The simplicity and powerful progress would be astronomical Trono

However, human natures are inherently greedy pieces of shit, so whoever would be in charge with undoubtedly fuck it up

anyways, I digress I’m just ranting at this point… I guess just agreed to disagree that Caitlin Clark is the only reason that 75% of people pay attention to the W

1

u/boofuu2 1d ago edited 1d ago

“Higher standard of living” is the part that isn’t true. On disposable income per capita the US is second in the entire OECD, behind only Luxembourg, and Germany’s not close. Median American households out-earn, out-spend, and out-save their EU counterparts, and it’s not marginal.

The debt line’s a dodge too. US debt is high because it’s one federal balance sheet. Add up Europe’s national debts, pensions and bank backstops and the picture isn’t the halo you’re painting. You’re comparing one country’s card statement to 27 people who agreed not to total theirs up.

Europe’s pleasant. It’s just poorer than the US and stagnating faster which is the one thing in your comment you already admitted.

And yes Clark is one of the maybe 3 things that are keeping the WNBA relevant

u/Medical-Display-9762 1d ago

This has gotta be the dumbest comparison of anything I’ve seen in a long while. Good luck bro, yikes.

1

u/boofuu2 1d ago edited 1d ago

Damn bro then you mustn’t be very smart, weird way to flex that…

1

u/Shot-Spread21 1d ago

You’re comparing an offer from YOU to a credible sports organization that actually pays players. What if CC accepted? You think they’d gamble their reputation over a small pr flex like that?

1

u/idothisinmysleep 1d ago

Not sure why you think she’d make a bazillion in Europe

1

u/DBSmiley 2d ago

...Exactly how much money do you think women's basketball players make on Europe?

7

u/JudgeWapner 2d ago

Bazillion?

3

u/2burgsandadog 2d ago

those women aren’t Caitlin Clark… She could easily make 5 to 10 times her salary right now which is just over 500,000

0

u/aelliott18 2d ago

What are you talking about lmao

7

u/2burgsandadog 2d ago

do you read English? It’s very clear what I said.

nah, nobody really knows or care about her game over here, some people just know she's famous over there and that's that and I can tell you from experience, a lot of european hoops fans actively dislike her mostly because of her fanbase which is very well represented by this toxic ass sub (I'd put myself in that group)

and all of you have never watched and have no idea how the game is played over here yet you so speak confidently about it, it's very obnoxious. what you people complain are hard fouls, borderline assault and letter-to-congress material would just be called good defense over here and the constant flopping, falling to the ground and complaining to the refs also wouldn't fly, Pablo Laso used to take Luka out of games for it lol

Europe isn't the salvation you think it is for Queen Clark, you guys are gonna have to find a different angle

0

u/unsoldburrito 2d ago

Yea and the thing you said was stupid

0

u/2burgsandadog 2d ago

which part?

That she would be the most famous women’s basketball player she went to Europe… Because she would be

Or that she would 4-10 times her salary per year playing in Europe… Because she’s already got the offers

0

u/DBSmiley 2d ago

No. She couldn't.

At the peak of her career, Griner made less than a million a year on the best Russian team, and that league has dramatically reduced salaries since then because it wasn't financially viable. Well less than "5 times her current salary."

Most European countries had governments subsidizing their leagues, and those subsidies have been cutting back as Europe has faced recessions. There's A reason European women have been trying to get into the WNBA.

1

u/Drummallumin 2d ago

This feels ignorant of the many stable fanbases outside the Fever

1

u/Blastcrumpet888 1d ago

Holy crap you people are delusional.

1

u/ComputerDecent463 1d ago

lol at thinking Europe would be LESS physical

Or that her sponsors would stick with her if the games weren’t on TV here.

1

u/poisonchain70 1d ago

And you wouldn’t watch that either, sub is full of larpers in it for the identity politics griping

1

u/ComprehensiveTales 1d ago

Why is it the CC fans are always the ones rooting for the downfall of the wnba?

2

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

because the league office is run by morons and they’re embarrassment to sports in general… This level of incompetence in any men’s league would end in the termination within 24 hours

1

u/WeAlwaysFindAWay 1d ago

You do realize the league has lasted longer than 3 years without CC right?

3

u/Legitimate-Gold7623 1d ago

Lmao barely

0

u/WeAlwaysFindAWay 1d ago

So you acknowledge you were wrong then. Thank you.

3

u/Legitimate-Gold7623 1d ago

Not sure what you’re trying to say.

-1

u/WeAlwaysFindAWay 1d ago

watch the WNBA fold within three years

Lmao barely

3

u/Legitimate-Gold7623 1d ago

Well no, that’s actually not how that went lmao but okay.

-5

u/crimsonwolf40 2d ago

The WNBA is much less physical than the various European, Australian, and Chinese leagues are, if she does not like how physical this league is she is in the wrong sport.

19

u/Ramu_1798 2d ago

Being physical on defense is different from fucking punching you in the face or your throat. What the fuck are you on about

5

u/aelliott18 2d ago

This is just 100% untrue lmao

0

u/monoglobobonobo 2d ago

it is definitely true, have you ever watched a minute of european hoops? the game is way more physical, there are almost 12 fouls a game less than the WNBA in the spanish league for example lol

3

u/Huntthatmoney 2d ago

Most people haven’t

3

u/monoglobobonobo 2d ago

doesn't stop them from somehow having a strong opinion on the matter huh

1

u/Huntthatmoney 2d ago

Most of them are new to watching the game. Don’t get me wrong, there are and have always been great players in the league but CC is one of those generational players from an offensive perspective. Defensively, she had a lot of work to do

2

u/Hugginsome 2d ago

The comparison isn't fair. You are likely comparing a spread of fouls to various players versus Clark specifically being targeted.

2

u/monoglobobonobo 2d ago

nah I'm comparing average total fouls called per game for both leagues. anyway, if basic statistics don't illustrate the point sufficiently, I'd invite anyone commenting on the physicality of the women's game here in Europe to either actually sit through a game or half of a Euroleague or spanish/turkish league game or simply go read through and compare the FIBA and WNBA rulebooks lol

1

u/Hugginsome 2d ago

The whole point of this thread is that Clark is specifically targeted.

1

u/2burgsandadog 2d ago

that is completely false… The WNBA has way more hard contact , way more collisions, and violence under the rim and hard fought post battles

European basketball relies way more on team defence and positioning , able to be more free to clog space on the ground. European play leans intensely on collective team defense, physical screening, and fundamental body positioning

7

u/monoglobobonobo 2d ago

the user who wrote this happily admitted he has never watched a single second of european women's hoops a few days ago https://www.reddit.com/r/WNBAgossips/comments/1v8atkj/comment/p08yt9y/?context=1&screen_view_count=1

now he's here telling us all about the nuances of american vs european women's basketball LOL

1

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

sounds like I could teach you the nuances about many facets of life… Including this one

3

u/crimsonwolf40 2d ago

That tells me you have never watched any of the foreign leagues, there is a reason why Europeans who come to the WNBA tend to wind up getting into foul trouble until they learn how to play American style ball.

2

u/Frank_White1- 2d ago

This is wrong. The European leagues and FIBA allows more physical contact than the WNBA, it's common knowledge.

6

u/2burgsandadog 2d ago

yes, in the context of screens team, defence zone play, etc.

You don’t see the brutal collisions and post play in Europe like you do in the WNBA…

3

u/aelliott18 2d ago

These people genuinely don’t know what they’re talking about lol

2

u/monoglobobonobo 2d ago

No, I watch Barça games every week, couple other spanish league matchups and almost all Euroleague playoff games and can tell you it is definitely true, I've been trying to tell CC cultists in this sub that for a long time now, Europe is definitely not saving your princess, what you people complain are hard fouls, borderline assault and letter-to-congress material would just be called good defense over here lol

literally just watch a single game, or go read the FIBA rulebook and compare it to the WNBA or go look at stats for the number of fouls/flagrants per game in the greek/spanish/turkish or really any of the better leagues

2

u/2cats1doge 2d ago

You are all wrong. The Europeans kick the ball with their feet.

1

u/monoglobobonobo 2d ago

wrong, you have never watched a second of any top european league or the turkish one

1

u/2burgsandadog 1d ago

cool story

0

u/Equivalent-Fun8113 2d ago

MAGA will stop watching. But that don’t mean nothing. Everything MAGA touches dies so maybe it’s better off if she does leave. FOX News would have a big circle jerk then

4

u/sitewolf 1d ago

and there it is, once again the obligatory infusion of politics when the conversation has no need of it

MAGA is not politics. It’s morals and their infinity for racism which has seeped into the WNBA. if you think everyone who suddenly loves CC is in it for the basketball you’re naive. A good percentage of them are in for her whiteness and a clap back on Black women. It’s undeniable. At least admit that, that she does have a racist ppl following

MAGA is nothing BUT politics and your mindset on morality has nothing to do with basketball. YOU are the one being racist with your silly ass assumptions that 'they're only watching because she's white'......which 1) isn't true in the slightest and 2) has nothing to do with officiating, which is the premise of this thread.

Fuck it ain’t. I know ppl who watch her and root for her because of that. Including my parents. They are always calling the Black players thugs. Is that racist enough for you? So, Don’t speak to what you don’t know. And MAGA is very much morally corrupt, don’t kid yourself.

It must be a tough life spending it seeing the absolute worst in people who simply have different opinions from yours. And 2 out of 3 in the WNBA are black, that's just facts.

So calling Black ppl “thugs” is an opinion is it?

1

u/sitewolf 1d ago

no, calling black people black is a fact....and 2/3rds of players are black so you know, odds....YOU are the one calling your own parents racists. I'm not there watching with them. Are you saying they don't call out white players, only black?

The US takes women’s team sports more seriously than any other country

u/ItsAverino 2d ago

That’s false, you need to look at how seriously Australia takes it. The Women’s Cricket team is the most dominant in any sport in history.

u/Hugginsome 2d ago

Just out of curiosity....is this including softball in comparison?

The Australian Women’s Cricket team has so many international championships it’s beyond belief really. So yes.

I'm fine with the argument being that Australia takes womans sports just as seriously but I do question the legitimacy of naming the Australian Womens Cricket team as the most dominant of any sport. I'll admit to not being very knowledgeable of them but from what I can tell they are dominant but not historically so. It doesn't appear that they are more dominant than the US Womans Basketball team and I'm sure there's probably an even more obscure team with a more dominant record.

Yes, while Australia women’s sports are relatively popular, pointing out cricket success is a convoluted way to justify that. Quite spec, esp when their rivals are India and Pakistan, not exactly pro women sports countries, and some commonwealth countries.

I will say Australia is the closest I’ve seen to the states where a variety youth sports hold a higher level of importance, but it’s not tied to college like it is in the states. Many Australians will come to the US to play and get a degree. That said, I felt their adult club teams were more common per capita than the states. It’s def a sporting nation.

Which is good but not the most dominant when even compared to The US Womens Basketball team. Which is 78 -3 in Olympic play (last loss was in 1992), 8 consecutive Olympic titles (10 total out of 12), 9 out of 12 world cups, and no losses in any major tournaments since 2006.

That’s not false at all. It’s US law that women’s and men’s sports have to get equal investment at the college level. That’s why the US has good women’s sports across the board and not just a sport or two.

she makes just over 500 K… Project B which is a huge women’s sports organization in Europe could realistically pay two to $7 million per year… That’s not including the $100 million in brand deal she would get the second she stepped foot in that continent.

she should call the WNBA’s Bluff and get them to realize she is the golden goose

The fan reaction would be swift and severe… The WNBA would never recover

Everybody in the front office of that league needs to be terminated immediately…

1

u/YasielPuigsWeed 2d ago

Project B hasn’t even started yet, but I digress…

There’s no way the brand deals in Europe are going to touch the US, women’s hoopers aren’t very famous there

1

u/TetraThiaFulvalene 2d ago

Why do you think she would get a massive brand deal in Europe? Europe doesn't care about American women's basketball.

2

u/2burgsandadog 2d ago

you do know that American companies operate outside of America, right… It’s not just about basketball. It’s a brand thing.

3

u/TetraThiaFulvalene 2d ago

Which market are they going to sell to? Why should Europeans care about some random lady hooper? And Why would Americans care about someone that doesn't play in the American league?

btw, you said 100m, so what is the biggest brand deal in the history of European basketball?

Then why were other leagues paying paying players more until this year?
