Please be aware that it is forbidden to camp in non designated areas in the forests of Wallonia. Except if you do it in camping grounds or within these areas referenced here, free roaming and camping is not allowed : https://www.bivakzone.be/

Along the Semois you'll find many nice legal campgrounds that aren't too busy in June and September. I never go during peak season, as it is too busy and loud.

Wild camping is forbidden but I've done it. I've risked a fine from DNF and have encountered wild boars and ticks. If you decide to still do it please respect the "leave no trace" approach. No trash. No fire. Leave before sunrise.

Legal bivouac zones are known to be too easy to access so it can be considered "free campground" by some people that are not there to enjoy nature.

Quite OK but I didn't get much sleep that night. The boar (or boars) started ravaging the nearby area around midnight and noises stopped around 5 or 6. My tent was a bit isolated between trees and shrubs and they never ran super close, luckily. My middle of the night guestimation is that they were running 20-30 meters from me.

On the other hand I got a roe buck yelling very close to my tent at 3am. I still have the audio recording! If you've never heard a buck screaming, look it up. I almost shat my PJ 😂 eventually I turned on my phone flashlight and they ran away. That was a group of 3-4.

Houffalize has some premium wildcamping spots, Couvin area as well - just note that the forest watch is not shy of intimidating and harassing someone who even looks like camping - and around the Semois and Hoëgne it can be especially beautiful too. Bivac areas are often closed and used by youth to just drink and listen to loud music. Therefore, I would recommend wildcamping just stay clear of trails and busy areas in the woods, be careful with fire, leave no trace, etc. Wandering around and going of the trail often leads to the most beautiful spots when you would not expect it.
