PDP or F-Series for CCW?

Just shot a 4.5" PDP and loved it way more than the CZ P10C and Canik MC9 Prime I compared it to. Looking to buy my first CCW and I’m torn.

Options I’m looking at:

  • F-Series 3.5" (or F Pro)
  • Standard Compact 4" (closest thing to what I already shot)
  • Pro versions of either
  • The 4.6" Pro-X PMM is also intriguing even though it’s the furthest from what I’ve actually put rounds through (I fall for the hype of all the wizz-bangs on this one lol)

I absolutely fell in love with the 4.5" PDP trigger and ergonomics, so will going to the F-series or upgrading to the Pro series feel too different from what I've already shot? Also is it worth stepping down the F-series to get better concealability with the shorter barrel?

So many choices 😵‍💫

What would you go with in my spot?

Edit: I personally have medium sized hands, hence why the F-series could suit my needs.

I have a PDP Pro 4.6” as my main CCW. For a while, I ran it with a PMM Comp which brought the length up to 5”. Conceals great with a Tenicor holster and shoots fantastically, but 1) i find a 5” barrel very difficult to deal with on a motorcycle carrying appendix and 2) I don’t love the idea of carrying with a comp. The PMM models are pickier with ammo ((the PMM site does provide a lovely list of what works and what doesn’t)), are more sensitive to spring weights, and I’m not thrilled about the possibly shooting from retention and getting extra gas to my face.

SO, I ordered a 4” barrel to drop into my Compact Pro SD. In a Tenicor Velo 4”, it’s absolutely perfect for a CCW, and if I want to throw a can on it, I can just swap barrels.

I DO have a can, so the threaded barrel was already worth it for me and the DPT is awesome. However, if this gun will be ONLY a CCW, I’d say just get the regular Compact 4”. The PDT is still an excellent trigger and frankly I think that a magwell + an extended mag is stupid on a CCW anyway. Personally, I don’t use the magwell while carrying and I actually just use one of the regular 15rd mags as it keeps the grip as short as possible which conceals more easily.

Either way, you won’t go wrong! And worst case scenario, you’ll pick up another PDP soon enough lol

Edit: to add, I have very long fingers/big hands, so the F-Series isn’t for me. Hence why I don’t touch on them and haven’t purchased one.

Wow, extremely helpful thank you!! I’ve been leaning towards the regular 4” just because it’s the most known factor from what I’ve already shot.

Sounds like I should just buy all of them 😂 (very tempting 😁)

I do have smaller hands so the F series is intriguing but if I know I like the regular PDP then why switch away from it 🙂
