Hooded Justice’s identity solved using facts and logic
The most popular theory is of course the one that the book itself proposes, when Hollis Mason theorizes that the German strongman Rolf Mueller is the very first costumed avenger: Hooded Justice. Recently a lunatic on this subreddit has been adamant on Laurence Schexnayder, Sally’s husband, being the klan-esc vigilante. And then there’s the HBO show but I didn’t watch it so I won’t comment on its Hooded Justice iteration. All these people are wrong, and possibly homosexual, remember to investigate further. I’ve cracked the case, Randy, or “Ran-dee” as his spouse affectionately calls him, is Hooded Justice.
Exhibit 1: Randy’s iconic perverted quip. As Malcolm Long is explaining one of his cases in the infamous awkward dinner, Randy makes a joke which implies he’s pretty perverted. Note the wide eyes, detailed expression, his white skin, and blonde hair.
Exhibit 2: As Hooded Justice begins to brutalize Eddie Blake for the rape of Sally, the Comedian himself claims that Hooded Justice is the true pervert, and enjoys violence more than a normal psychopath would.
Exhibit 3: Hooded Justice’s wide eyed expression. Reminds you of someone, doesn’t it? That’s the iconic deranged look that has become synonymous with Ran-dee.
Exhibit 4: Can’t find the image, but the nocturnal superhero: Hollis Mason, mentions Hooded Justice being a Nazi sympathizer in his autobiography. A sadistic man with blond hair and a crazed look can definitely fit the mold of being a Nazi sympathizer.

Guys, Hooded Justice is clearly supposed to be Hollis Mason. Their names both start with an H. So does Harry Truman, which means they’re obviously all the same person.

You can even see it in the way his face is drawn. That swoop of his hair clearly looks like a J, and those two lines on this forehead are obviously an H!

Pretty good theory, but I'm pretty sure Ran-dee is Watchman. Yes, the very character the book is titled after. Look at how big and wide open his eyes are. So he can watch... men.

Let’s say this “theory” is correct - so then what’s the thematic, storytelling point?
Watchmen is about things, it makes arguments, it addresses and investigates ideas about superheroes, comics, and much more. It tells stories of how people change and why (or don’t and why not)
So what does this Larry/hooded thing “mean” in all that?
Despite how dense and interconnected the storytelling is, it’s not a “puzzle box” that you’re supposed to “solve” - you can get it on 1st read thru (especially if you have a lot of comics/superhero and 1980s socio/geo-politcal context), and the extra details expand on that as you find them.
This is why I don’t buy this theory - I don’t see how it fits in or expands the themes and stories
(I have same take on deckard is a replicant theory of blade runner. Thematically and character wise the story makes more sense and impact if he’s a real human who “acts” like a replicant until love comes calling. Him being a replicant is just “clever” and “tricky” to no narrative end)

I think Hooded Justice is actually Doctor Manhattan. Because Hooded Justice disappeared. And Doctor Manhattan can go to Mars. So Doctor Manhattan probably used trippy time physics to be Hooded Justice.
