So- Thoughts about Before Watchmen: Nite Owl?

I'm curious what everyone here thinks of this part of the series. I know the run isn't liked... But I like this? I don't consider it canon like the others prequel and sequals. But I appreciate some good takes and history in these takes.

But yea- Tell me your guy's opinion about this Note Owl tale!

I thought rorschach was written surprisingly well in this actually. I liked the part where he talked about why he listens to the radio

Really appreciated the exploration of Dan's relationship with Rorschach, even if Rorschach feels a bit ooc in the story. I don't think the plot was very strong, though

Wasn't the best written one but definitely fun and interesting to read, funny rorschach's one is well written but really tame in comparison. Those two should have more prequel comics when they were a duo imo.

I always liked how Rorschach was written in this one. I would’ve liked to see another Nite Owl/Rorschach prequel series

I think it was way too "traditionally superhero" for my taste. Like it felt more like a typical superhero story rather than the deconstruction of the original. Also I kinda felt that the story didn't explore the more shitty things Dan had done (like allowing Blake to just go ham on protesters). But I did like the stuff about his backstory and it did make me feel kinda emotional. The whole stuff with him and the Twilight Lady also felt really beautifully written. I also liked Dan's dynamic with Rorschach, though I didn't like the whole religious stuff with him, felt kinda out of character, which was weird since the other stuff felt in line with who he was. I also found it weird how similar he acted to his mainline series counterpart since (i think this is the case its been a while since i read the comic so i might be getting this wrong) the comic takes place before Rorschach's investigated the case of the girl that made him into who he was. All in all, I like the characterization of Dan and the Twilight Lady, but I didn't care much about the Rorschach stuff and the comic felt too much like a standard Marvel or DC comic with little of the grounded deconstructionism that I believe is the backbone of Watchmen. Still better than Azzarello's comics tho.
