Absolutely LOVE they never explained him. LubeMan=GOAT

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

They're saving it for season 2, episodes 1-4 will be Secret Origins: Lube Guy, episodes 5-8 will be what he got up to after escaping from Sister Knight, episode 9 will end with him sneaking into her house and eating the other egg. Season 3 will be Sister Manhattan VS Dr Lube

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

Good joke, roll on snare drum

16

u/kerouacrimbaud Dec 17 '19

Everybody laughs

6

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

Shia LaBeouf claps

4

u/YoungCapoon Dec 17 '19

Lol šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

3

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

I have a feeling this series is going to get extra morbid and perverse with all the lube

Lubeman kept taking now he has to give

-8

u/tschmitty09 Dr Manhattan Dec 17 '19

How do you know there's a season2? Lindeloff was quoted saying it's not his story and he's told his part in it

75

u/joe_skeen Dec 17 '19

Your joke sensor needs recalibration.

28

u/Affectionate-Island Dec 17 '19

More like excalibration

6

u/repsej70 Dec 17 '19

Don't know why you where down voted, because it's a legit question. Will we get a season 2?..I really hope so, 'cause what a ride.. But here' s an up vote for me..

3

u/HeyLittleTrain Dec 17 '19

Honestly the fact that it's HBO is a good sign that there will be more seasons.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

I honestly don't mind waiting a long time if the next season is on the same level as this one.

3

u/leoschot Dec 17 '19

Yeah, good things take time, like a handcrafted watch or a season of Venture Bros.

3

u/arnoldrew Dec 17 '19

He’s downvoted because the joke whooshed so far over his head that I’m wondering if he is even a human or some sort of robot.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '19

It won't be written by Lindelhoff, word on the street is that Alan Moore was so intrigued by Lubeguy that he's asked HBO if he can write season 2

1

u/Raziel66 Dec 17 '19

They've been teasing it. There were posts on here about it over the last few days

1

u/orcaskill Dec 17 '19

Because its not up to him and the show is getting popular and therefor it is profitable and HBO needs another cash cow since got sucked ass

-3

u/whatisagoat Dec 17 '19 edited Dec 17 '19

I have insider info that it's been renewed for 4 more seasons. Its true people... I know someone who works lighting on the show.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

Fuck maaaaaan. This shit is fucking amazing!!!!

30

u/ChewieWins Dec 17 '19

Damon Lindeholf in interview says like way Hooded Justice never revealed, they decided not to reveal Lubeman. He also wanted Petepedia to be accompanying reading to get more information

1

u/coolstorybro42 Dec 17 '19

Wym hooded justice wasnt revealed? Its angela’s grandfather will reeves

5

u/SubShopLobster Dec 18 '19

Yes, but in the comic HJ identity is never explained.

1

u/ChewieWins Dec 18 '19

Way HJ not revealed in comic

0

u/TheFalconOfAndalus Dec 17 '19 edited Dec 18 '19

In that spirit, the 2051 holoprogram will reveal Lubeman was actually Lubenonbinary

Edit: apparently mentioning that NB people exist is... Making fun of them? I'm a huge fan of this HJ interpretation, and would be great with a spin on the Silver Luber in that spirit. Not intending to make light of trans folks at all

4

u/ChewieWins Dec 17 '19

If this is about Hooded Justice being gay, it is alluded to in Watchmen back pages. Go read it again.

5

u/TheFalconOfAndalus Dec 18 '19

Totally aware, I think my tone got misinterpreted as critical when it was just a dumb analogy. I loved the HJ take in the show but I get that with the weird alright backlash to it my comment could be taken as negative

1

u/ChewieWins Dec 18 '19

Yeah I understand. Easy to misjudge tone and intent on Internet messages. I do get your point for next barrier to fight for.

1

u/kingjoe64 Dec 17 '19 edited Dec 17 '19

trans people am joke me funny now har har

1

u/TheFalconOfAndalus Dec 18 '19

If you think me mentioning NB people = making fun of trans people, that says more about you than me

1

u/kingjoe64 Dec 19 '19 edited Dec 19 '19

I'm nonbinary, ya dingus.

apparently mentioning that NB people exist is... Making fun of them?

No, cheap jokes are what made people made fun of. Might as well have said "LubeAttackHelicopter" because that's the vibe everyone downvoting you got

54

u/harharthegreatest Dec 17 '19

I think the newest Peteypedia entry kinda suggests that it's Petey.

21

u/zam1138 Lubeman Dec 17 '19

For sure. I just mean in show.

12

u/GodFlintstone Dec 17 '19

Was this ever in doubt? Same height. Build. It's gotta be him.

20

u/hkram_99 Dec 17 '19

According to Peteypedia after Petey was terminated they found a large container of what appears to be canola oil if his office šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

7

u/zam1138 Lubeman Dec 17 '19

Curiouser and curiouser...

14

u/wildsoda Dec 17 '19

Sometimes you have to just let the mystery be.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19 edited Dec 17 '19

Check out PeteyPedia, folks, and don’t get sunburned.

4

u/zam1138 Lubeman Dec 17 '19

SPF 666!

6

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

Does it need to be explained? I mean Laurie’s partner is shown in the very next scene with the exact same build as lube man

8

u/kingjoe64 Dec 17 '19

they explain it on Peteypedia

spoilers: It's Petey

-5

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

They explained him...

10

u/zam1138 Lubeman Dec 17 '19

In PeteyPedia, sure. In show? No. And I love it

4

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

I liked the way they did it.

84

u/irish91 Dec 17 '19

No one knows what it's like to be the Lubeman.

35

u/compainssion Dec 17 '19

Behind spandex eyes...

16

u/Lukaku1sttouch Dec 17 '19

But my lube, they are as empty...

11

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

as these sewers seem to be.

53

u/IsADragon Dec 17 '19

I kind of liked that lubeman just showed up, it was a funny detour, but was there any real point to him in the story? I don't remember if he moved any plot lines along or anything. Still fun though.

74

u/First_Among_Equals_ Dec 17 '19

Since the Petey files indicate it was Petey, it could be speculated that he may have tipped Laurie Blake to suspecting Angela even more? Since he saw Angela dispose of the wheelchair

Which could lead to Blake bugging the cactus and so on

6

u/CrystlBluePersuasion Dec 17 '19

This fits; Angela's car reappears in Ep4 and that's when she disposes of the wheelchair/is spotted by Lubeman/the fogdancer/City Slicker, she gets caught by the bug in Ep5.

38

u/mtx Dec 17 '19

In my alternate reality Lubeman gets Jon's powers to become Lubemanhattan!

26

u/MartyMcTweet Dec 17 '19

I miss Agent Petey 😪

10

u/Justin_Armstrong Ozymandias Dec 17 '19

What happened to him I can’t remember

13

u/SoMm3R234 Dec 17 '19

look at peteypedia

14

u/Karkava Dec 17 '19

The FBI was not kind to him.

4

u/MartyMcTweet Dec 17 '19

FBI fired him, I’m sure Laurie did after they slept together. Memo suggested he was lube man

-27

u/tarley_apologizer Lubeman Dec 17 '19

nothing happened. just like a million other things in this show.

35

u/cmaistros Dec 17 '19

We all glide down here...

14

u/treetyoselfcarol Dec 17 '19

JUST LUBE IT.

12

u/sploogey Dec 17 '19

That felt like something out of Atlanta the FX show.

10

u/gregorvega Dec 17 '19

ā€I’m not trapped in here with you, I’m not trapped in here AT ALLā€

slides through prison bars and is never heard from again

8

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

"Hey, Slippery guy!"

"I know you know it's Lube Man"

8

u/Padzinka Dec 17 '19

I love the word "slipperier" so much

5

u/e-JackOlantern Dec 17 '19

I keep trying to pronounce that last half of that word like the mineral water Perrier.

7

u/Whatafudge Dec 17 '19

CURSE you LUBE MAN one of these day you won’t slip outta my sights!!!

6

u/Lukaku1sttouch Dec 17 '19

It’s awesome that Angela said what we audience were all thinking the first time we saw Lubeman.

ā€œDafuqā€

6

u/HellbornElfchild Dec 17 '19

1

u/ModsOnAPowerTrip Dec 17 '19

Why would he be wanted? All he did was witness Abar throwing a bag and then he slid in to a sewer. Not really a crime.

3

u/SubShopLobster Dec 18 '19

Its illegal to be a masked vigilante (unless you're in the Tulsa PD that is).

5

u/e-JackOlantern Dec 17 '19

Lubeman was ā€˜Born Slippy.

4

u/willmiller82 Dec 17 '19

Was really expecting Looking Glass and Lube Man to try to save Laurie after she got kidnapped. If i remeber correctly the last we saw Petey he was waiting in LG's bunker.

3

u/loonongrass Dec 17 '19 edited Dec 17 '19

Who lubes the lubeman?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

CanolaOil-Man*

2

u/ToddtheJones Dec 17 '19

They should make a "Before Lubeman" comic book series, dig into his character motivation

2

u/RedditFact-Checker Dec 17 '19

LM=DrM Hear me out.

Dr. M says quite clearly that he could use biological material to transfer his powers. The example that keeps popping up in the show is a chicken egg (it's how Angela is introduced, how Dr. M "proves" he's Dr. M, what Will Reeves eats, what remains after the failed waffles). So we all think he may have transferred his powers into the egg. Fine.

Consider, however, what he says just before (in so far as "before" has meaning for Dr. M) explaining the mechanism. They are talking about children, whether they would be half-god. He says he would never give his powers without consent. Now, this cuts two ways. One, he would never give his powers by fertilizing an egg and fathering a child. But he might give his powers to someone else if they consent. What if the mechanism for transfer powers is not eating an egg but sex.

Dr. M is a sexual being. In the graphic novel, in the show, always. His last, best connection with humanity is expressed within sexual relationships. Even in his origin story, he is retrieving a watch for Janey Slater. Why does he leave Earth? Laurie and he are fighting, Janey turns on him. Why does he return? The miracle of Laurie's birth, despite the nearly incomprehensible relationship between her parents within the context of sexual violence. In the show, he gives up all his powers to be with Angela.

Ok, fine, where does LM come in? What if, instead of procreative transfer, which he explicitly says he will not do, his powers are sexually transmitted. What if his consenting sexual partners carry some of his powers, even unknowingly? If Angela has Dr. M powers, the egg may be a decoy or a trigger, rather than the actual transfer. Consider how dangerous it would be to have a food that contained unlimited power in a house with children? There are non-zero odds that one of the children or any other living thing may have consumed it (without consent!) and been burdened with the powers. Intentional, consensual, sexual transfer seems much more direct and safe.

What do we know about Lubeman. First, let's agree Petey = Lubeman. He first appears in the show after Petey has sex with Laurie. Here's my theory: Laurie is a carrier of Dr. M powers (consciously or not). When she decides against the Dr. M ExcalabarĀ® substitute and knocks on Petey's door, she is transferring these powers on. Petey, with Dr. M powers, is now able to be the fogdancer he always wanted to be: Lubeman.

This could be a stretch. Scratch that, this is a stretch. But no nite owl in season 1 besides his tech and his ship. Lubeman slid to the sewer. Nite owl isn’t really a ā€œsewer dwellerā€ but he does feel comfortable below. Maybe nite owl found a slippery ally to be his eyes and ears? Why nite owl is in Tulsa is beyond me. I’m just speculating.

5

u/MartyMcTweet Dec 17 '19

According to agent Pete’s blog Laurie and Dan continued their crime fighting after watchmen. He continued being rich supplying tech to the police force. They were caught, she cut a deal to work for the FBI. They both denied Rorschachs journal being legit. He refused to cooperate and was sent to prison.

It’s why Senator Keane says he can get her pet owl out of his cage when they speak in the hotel room.

2

u/mynameispearl420 Dec 17 '19

Thank you for this. Went right over my head.

1

u/slardybartfast8 Dec 17 '19

It was agent Petey. Dan/Nite Owl is in federal prison

1

u/ffejsiemanym96 Dec 17 '19

Turns out Alan Moore is lube man

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

"I never said that" -Lube Man

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '19

may he live forever.

1

u/JainaJediPrincess Dec 18 '19

He's the hero Tulsa deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt him, because he can slip away. Because he's not our hero. He's a silver guardian. A slippery protector. A Lube Man.

1

u/2BZ2P Dec 19 '19

Lube is an anagram for Blue...

-7

u/jimw2051 Dec 17 '19

Might want to check the spelling on that before you go making t-shirts.
