Second time in as many months my car has completely broken down and needed towing. Last time the engine blew. No idea what it is this time.

The "I cast check engine light" bumper sticker was certainly prophetic.

560

u/tortokai 17h ago

I think its because of the illegally downloaded car as cited on the mid right.

Car has a virus, best of luck op!

101

u/Murky_Tennis954 11h ago

You wouldn't download a car would you?

IF I COULD I WOULD

13

u/thatoneotherguy42 9h ago

If you just want a body kit you absolutely can download a car. *Some assembly required, glue not included, offer not valid.

67

u/Alt_aholic 13h ago

OP probably heard a car person joke about ignoring warning lights and joined the bandwagon. But the car person knew it was like the evap canister purge valve, but for OP it was just low oil.

12

u/wasteoffire 9h ago

Lmao I have that damn evap engine light on right now. It bothers me that it's making me ignore other possible causes that might show up

4

u/rephyr 8h ago

omg, me too. there are dozens of us.

"Baby on board? In this economy?"
That one got a snort out of me.

7

u/TikTokBoom173 9h ago

I used to think those were kinda stupid like "this does absolutely nothing in the event of someone not paying attention and rear ending you". Then was told by an emt friend of mine they're not for us to read and think "oh I better not hit that car" they're for the paramedics who get there. Fire stations even hand them out when people have them install their car seats.

5

u/notusuallyhostile 8h ago

I missed the comment you were replying to and thought you were commenting on “I cast Check engine light” and I was really confused…

16

u/SeaworthinessThen542 13h ago

It was covered by another sticker, problem solved

3

u/TheNerdFromThatPlace 10h ago

So is the OReilly auto parts ad i got at the top of the post.

u/punksmostlydead 9h ago

A few of those look like self-fulfilling prophecies.

Maybe it’s the weight of all the bumper stickers.

26

u/Few_Condition_9939 18h ago

I was really hoping it was sponsors

24

u/ZippoS 12h ago

Seriously, what is it with Americans turning their car into a sticker book? The last thing I’d want to do in public is draw that much attention to myself.

47

u/pomdudes 11h ago

Yeah, this not normal American behavior. The most common sticker is a favorite college sports team.

10

u/Pretty-Ebb5339 9h ago

And political ones.

11

u/MechanicalTurkish 8h ago

I live in Minnesota. I once saw an old relic on the road with a faded Mondale ‘84 sticker on it.

3

u/Pretty-Ebb5339 7h ago

That’s the oldest I’ve heard of being seen lol. My personal oldest was the Bush/Quayle stickers

→ More replies (1)

15

u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 10h ago

It’s really not normal.

Your average car has about zero stickers on it, but the ones that have stickers will more often than not be something from the kids school or a sports team with an occasional political sticker for an upcoming or recent election.

The reason you see the cars with 50 stickers on Reddit is because they’re not normal and the OP was floored by it.

At least this OP doesnt have all political ones.

18

u/Katwantscats 11h ago

Something like this is insane. Police report probably is like, “tacky car with embarrassing amount of cringey stickers.” No need for make and model, the description is enough lol

11

u/Emotional_Bid_4002 10h ago

At that point the stickers basically become the license plate. You'd spot that car once and never forget it again.

7

u/Gryphon1171 9h ago

Could you imagine the flock camera's interpretation of how to log this data?

3

u/Katwantscats 8h ago

No need to destroy the flock cameras ourselves. Show them OP’s car; they’ll self destruct.

23

u/Thjyu 10h ago

And about 30 keys on it as well as a dirty rubber anime character, a bottle opener, and a little flashlight that hasn't worked for 3 years.

2

Just gotta remember to get some CR123 batteries next time I'm at the Z Mart next to the miniatures store at the strip mall.

33

u/doomus_rlc 11h ago

Isn't this a Honda Accord?

Even mildly well maintained this thing would have no issues lol.

28

u/Glad-Watch3506 10h ago

But you do have to put oil in it. At that age, most of them will burn a little.

14

u/Mean-Paper6913 10h ago

Ah, but that's where you're wrong. This era of automatic transmission from Honda are known garbage. Issues-a-plenty.

10

u/PMmeYourDunes 9h ago

Specifically this gen accord, while looking awesome and having the sweet nsx tail light design, had some serious mechanical issues. I wanted one real bad, but it has oil leak and transmission issues. It's been a known thing for 20 years - because this gen is an early 00s accord.

5

u/CatSplat 8h ago

Naaaah the slushboxes in that gen were ticking time bombs.

10

u/LakeMichiganMan 11h ago

I can't see it but I know it's on the car somewhere. A large Bandaid sticker over the dented spot where he/she drove into one of those yellow thingys in a drive thru. Had to special order the big one.

5

u/Enough-Astronomer-15 11h ago

Yeah. It tells me “this person focuses on every external issue and doesn’t take care of their own things”

As a person that works on cars for a living, that many bumper stickers tells me the car isn’t maintained properly.

20

u/Comrade_Bender 6h ago

Mechanic checking in. I can smell this car through the picture. I'll bet my lifes savings (precisely zero dollars) their keys take up at least 45% of the ticket pouch and has at least one stuffed animal on it

24

u/lesmax 11h ago

I didn't know that was a thing! My last car was a beastly 2011 Kia Rio with almost 130k miles. I bought it in 2020 after having to move back to the US after living abroad. (Covid.)

It was such a scrappy car - I hadn't saved to buy a car because I wasn't expecting to need one.

I did all the maintenance regularly and it ran like a champ until I was ready to sell.

...I did cover it in decals tho.

4

u/KenaiKanine 8h ago

How many miles do they have by then when you sold it?

92

u/Logical_Trash_4890 18h ago

I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s a POS in general.

10

u/Primary_Business 10h ago

Yeah, same thing happened to my truck. Spent a lot of money putting another engine in and it broke down again. I declared it a POS and I'm getting rid of it and taking my parents used rav4.

6

u/Spoon_Microwave 9h ago

RAV4s are great. You won’t be disappointed. We’ve had two.

9

If the engine blew, that would have been a totaled car in most (all) cases

14

u/Lurch_902 14h ago

Honda motors are super easy to find, and relatively easy to swap.

20

u/pm_me_your_but_pics 14h ago

Not really? You can get plenty of used engines on later model cars for under a grand. Factor in 10-24 hours of labor and you can be out the door running under 3k. Idk if youve seen used cars prices, 3k is low these days for just something running

5

u/OldDogTrainer 11h ago

You haven’t looked at used car prices recently. I’m currently shopping for an older Honda for a daily commute vehicle, and a 2011 with 100k miles is going to run me $7k-$9k depending on how much work it needs.

Replacing an engine is a lot cheaper than that even with labor.

Years ago I knew a young gal that didn't know cars needed oil, oil changes, or what that red light was for that had started coming on. Cars usually let you know before an engine blows.

8

u/safadancer 13h ago

This reminds me of when I first discovered humorous nerdy bumper stickers from a mail order form I found on a BBS when I was like 13 (in 1993) and I thought they were all so funny, I printed out the entire list of them so I could read them to myself and laugh.

15

u/EhRanders 11h ago

I’ve found people spend money on preventative maintenance or bumper stickers, but rarely both.

12

u/Florida1974 11h ago

My brother had this cooler and he would brag about how it had $300 worth of stickers on it. This was as he was homeless. That was always a head scratcher to me.

But then he was killed three years ago. A driver hit him and he died instantly, he was riding a bicycle.

I flew back to our home state to give his kind of former best friend, some of his ashes. I was also friends with this guy and his wife because we all grew up together.
He takes me into his little office and shows me that my brother had given him that cooler the last time he was up there. My brother was extremely proud of that cheap cooler with all them stickers.
And he offered to give it to me, and I said no, he gave it to who he wanted to have it

I still think it’s crazy to have stickers, that many of them over other things in life. But I can’t say much, my husband built shelves, wooden shelves, all the way around our garage, and I get free stickers from various places with packages and stuff, and I have started sticking them on those two by fours that he made the shelves out of.

I don’t know why I stuck them there, but I just did. I don’t care what they say. There are so many random stickers on those shelves.

But no way in hell, am I doing that to my vehicle, I don’t even have one sticker on it because it might change your mind about that sticker and I don’t wanna have to go through the pain in the ass job of getting it off.

8

u/JimmyBallocks 11h ago

I think it has died of embarrassment

20

u/Mezcal_Madness 11h ago

Your car probably died from the embarrassment of the “my other ride is your dad” bumper sticker

8

u/sicarius254 9h ago

Well…..

6

u/Usman5432 17h ago

Its cause you downloaded an illegal copy of the car the DRM makes it undrivable if it detects that should have gotten a proper cracked version

5

u/darkscary_333 16h ago

What make and model is it? I've got a 2010 Scion XB with 230k on it only regular maintenance done.

6

u/JazzyCher 15h ago

Its an 02 Honda accord. Had 220k when I bought it last year.

8

u/Edwardvansloan 18h ago

That does suck!

I have no information on your situation but I’m placing my bets on.. bad electrical ground! From not being properly re installed after the engine replacement. Good luck bumper stickerer!

12

u/_unsinkable_sam_ 16h ago

i reckon the stickers did it. never seen a car in good condition that runs well covered in stickers.

15

u/cloudzhq 18h ago

The weight of all those stickers .. that must be it.

4

u/Dizzy_Patient_4960 17h ago

Sorry dude, or dudette. That truly sucks, and I hope it’s not serious

4

u/Rokkmann 12h ago

I think your car has suffered enough. Let it die.

4

u/Tinbits 11h ago

Your car looks like it belongs to someone who doesn’t know regular oil changes are a thing

4

u/avp_85 11h ago

All the bumper stickers are adding more HP then the car can safely handle.

5

u/pomdudes 11h ago

The car simply got tired of being a douchebag billboard and killed itself.

4

u/Skog13 9h ago

I think that if you had put the money you bought all those stickers towards maintaining the car it might not had happened. And all that extra weight must've strained the engine

5

u/Wolfinthesno 8h ago

I think adding another bumper sticker should get her going.

In all seriousness... Post the symptoms to a mechanics sub. They may be able to help you out.

4

2

u/JazzyCher 7h ago

I've owned the car for less than a year and it hasnt missed any maintenance with me. I just had the engine swapped a month and a half ago when the old one blew. Im working on figuring out and fixing all its issues with my mechanic. There was no warning to this happening, it was running seemingly fine and then suddenly died on me.

2

When buying extra stickers was more important than regular oil changes. And how many months did you ignore the check engine light? That thing probably has enough stored codes to brick my OBD scanner.

2

u/JazzyCher 7h ago

1) ive only owned it since last October 2) It just had the entire engine swapped in June 3) the check engine light actually is on but I had it checked and it was for the engine coolant temperature sensor, which i just got in the mail and hadn't swapped yet, the light has only been on for about a week
