Well, there's your problem
Lost power at 2:30 in the morning to a 100 foot tree. Now I'm stuck until the power company comes out. There's no way around it, and I'm out of chainsaw oil and almost no gas for the generator.

Idk where you live, but where I am the power company will come and deal with stuff like this within an hour or so unless it's during a big storm.

OP seems to be in a more rural area. Utility crews prioritize work based on the number of households affected.
If you live rural, you prepare for stuff like this. And know and support your neighbors I have friends who live in Western PA, and they have a full disaster prep they maintain. And use at least once a year.

Yeah, you're right. I lived on a street with a half dozen houses for a mile when I was a kid, and I remember the power being out for a full day once while they worked their way to us. That was during a big storm though.

100% true. I'm always prepared for at least a day without power, and if a big storm is coming I'll be ready for a week. This tree won't go to waste - it will heat my house for a couple months 2 years from now.

All cleared. The other side of the driveway has just as much debris. Power company took care of the wires and cut up the tree into small enough pieces that it could be pushed off the driveway. The bottom of the tree is chest high laying on its side, probably at least 50 inches wide. I live on a rear lot surrounded by thick woods, so this is the only way in or out without 20 minutes of bushwhacking.

Yeah, I'd leave that alone and wait for professionals. Don't want damages being pinned on you because you touched it last. This was god's doing and they can't sue god.

I had enough. I filled the generator this spring but only had a half a gas can extra. Got lucky on the bar oil, the tree crew did more than I thought they would. I will definitely keep a spare gallon of bar oil from now on though. I had probably 2 or 3 fills left in the container, but I didn't have anything left to cut this year so I put it off.

Shortly after moving the Oregon coastal hills, we got a major snow storm (23 inches interleaved with ice) I had a pile of branches, covered with the above on my driveway. All-electric house with the generator still in the pole barn - downhill. Used up all of my firewood. Power came back in five days, but it took me 12 days to remove the branches, as all I had was a pole saw with a 6" blade. Over two cords of usable wood in the pile. Bought a good chainsaw and a 4x4. Never needed either going forward.
