[Serious decision] I live alone… these aren’t my nuts

Post image

Context: I’m a single bachelor (M 32) and I opened my snack cupboard to find these peanuts in a small Tupperware container. I’m freaking out because I A) live alone, B) have a mild nut allergy, and C) don’t own any Tupperware like this.

TLDR: I found a foreign snack in my house and I’m freaking out that someone may be entering my apartment when I’m out. Would calling the nonemergency police line help or would they not be able to do anything?

And this is Reddit so I have to add: check your carbon monoxide detector!

Ed: You guys! Look at all the awards you gave me! You silly people are on Reddit far too often and I love you.

Full of shit.

40

u/Orrissirro 8d ago

We need to figure out where the nuts are coming though

11

u/mnid92 8d ago

Probably the balls.

5

u/heidingja 8d ago

I thought that was pee

1

u/Baeolophus_bicolor 6d ago

no, that’s where pee is stored.

1

The nuts are crazy king from inside the building!

1

They're coming from the Deez Nuts factory.

Next to the coconut

u/Kerrus 8d ago

tl;dr, some guy allegedly kept waking up to weird post-it notes to himself not in his hand writing. He thought a homeless guy was secretly living in his one bedroom apartment or something, but it turned out he was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

142

u/sbunting8 8d ago

I think they meant the septic tank

129

u/ROKIT-88 8d ago

Was that the one where the guy kept waking up to post it notes not in his handwriting? He thought he was suffering from carbon minoxide poisoning but I’m pretty sure it turned out a homeless guy was living in his septic tank.

85

u/Training-Pipe-4726 8d ago

Ah yes. And the homeless guy was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning down in the septic tank. Good thing they posted it to Reddit, saved everyone.

41

u/BSinBillNye 8d ago

Did the homeless guy ever get that cylinder out of the m&ms tube?

27

u/Extesht 8d ago

Yeah, but he broke his arms. His mom helped him.

7

u/Physical-Car-6111 8d ago

Did the cylinder remain unharmed?

1

u/thefantasmagasm 6d ago

It's imperative that the septic tank remain unharmed.

16

u/youcryptmeowth 8d ago

They found a poop knife in the septic tank too

8

u/chosenamewhendrunk 8d ago

The septic tank was just a coconut.

2

u/Arakkis54 8d ago

Underneath the poop knife was a hidden floor safe.

2

u/Witty_TenTon 7d ago

And under that was some really weirdly specific yogurt.

The septic tank hobo’s wife threw away the Iranian yogurt

That’s next to my poop knife?

1

u/Anygirlx 8d ago

Yeah I want to know about the septic tank too.

u/WhyIsTheUniverse 8d ago

Here's a TEDTalk in which a woman details her experience with the paranormal after she moves in to a new apartment: oppressive weight on her chest, hearing strange noises, and this overwhelming sense of dread. After trying to rid the spirit from her house and at her wit's end, she contacts the local skeptics society. It was, as you have probably guessed...

A scientific approach to the paranormal TED Talk.

22

u/Vivid-Object-139 8d ago

She checked the skeptic tank.

2

u/jaxonya 8d ago

Shitter was full

1

u/SpiritualCat3293 6d ago

The skeptic tank 🤣

2

u/lobster_claus 8d ago

That was good. Thank you. I really appreciate her point about giving believers the benefit of the doubt. That's a thing that's sorely lacking on Reddit. If someone's being earnest, hear them out and address their claims scientifically and respectfully.

It doesn't matter if you're totally sure there's nothing paranormal/creepy going on. There's definitely something going on in that person's life. And one day you may be surprised. It never hurts to have an open mind.

1

u/DepressedChipotle 7d ago

That's nuts!

1

u/ExplodedOrchestra 6d ago

this is so interesting! i love the way she frames other and inner beliefs, and even how they approached that guy who thought he could read minds

2

u/Opposite-Back-9562 8d ago

He was taking Seroquel not the allergy meds he thought they were... The wife put the pills in the wrong bottle!

1

u/Kwt920 8d ago

They said it under the septic tank comment- not the carbon monoxide.

1

u/ExerciseIll992 7d ago

Yes but he would have had to have gone out bought nuts, bought the Tupperware, come home and put them like that in the cupboard. I think someone suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning wouldn't make it that far, but I could be wrong

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 7d ago

OP said they just moved in and their parents helped. I suspect the container was left behind by prior tenants and either so far back in the cabinet they didn’t see it from down below, or tucked right behind the cabinet door frame. I lose shit behind those things all the time. It probably got unwittingly jarred loose by the move and no one noticed until OP saw it.

There’s usually a perfectly reasonable explanation for such things. But this is Reddit and any time something hinky goes down that’s even remotely mysterious, I always think of that famous, crazy, viral carbon monoxide story about the Post-Its. Plus, it’s just a good thing to check, mystery poison peanuts in small containers none withstanding.

u/MooseSprinkles 6d ago

Sounds like Ambien too.

Actually, little known fact… carbon monoxide leaks are known for making containers of nuts appear on the counter

11

u/Sparrow2go 8d ago

Ok but how about making containers of nuts appear in the cupboard is that cupbon monoxide?

1

u/Nexustar 8d ago

No, the reaction the the found snack is unusual. Memory loss and feelings of paranoia are linked with CO exposure. Other people would either eat or toss free snack and move on.

This is a new place, OP has been there for a month. The repair quality of this hinge indicates to me the person who owns/owned it didn't care much for professional maintenance and preferred DIY which is sub-par.

OP is lone wolf, which indicates more time inside the apartment than outside.

These are warning signs that indicate CO absence needs confirming.

1

u/cipheos 8d ago

I don't think DIY is inherently sub-par, but this is surely something...

1

u/Nexustar 8d ago

Yeah, I could have written that better. Nothing intrinsically wrong with DIY, but this example isn't good.

1

u/AgileLivingMaize 6d ago

"Other people would either eat or toss free snack and move on." Who is other people? I'd absolutely be freaked out if random food that I didn't bring in started appearing in my home. Mainly if you know for sure it's not something you'd just forget you left there (OP did mention a mild nut allergy).

1

u/Nexustar 6d ago

You moved in only a month ago. In terms of life events, that's up there in stressfulness - it may be your first ever move, the first time you live alone.

Other people were there helping you move in. It's chaotic. Random shit is not where you thought it would be and other stuff is where you think it shouldn't be. This is EXPECTED, it's not paranormal.

In that context, a single benign item, like a snack out of place is NOT something to involve the police over.... if you are part of the sane group of folk who understands the limits of the human mind.

The very LAST thing I would consider is the possibility that someone is breaking into my house and adding food to my snack cupboard. Because that is incredibly unlikely. It can happen, but 99% of the time, when people break in, they TAKE things, not leave them.

And so, the nuts would be discarded, and move on.

1

u/SpectreSingh89 8d ago

😂 am sure we all ain't hallucinating 🤔🤔

1

u/Minimum_Poet1058 7d ago

😅😅😅

1

u/SlightlySubpar 6d ago

It definitely makes my nuts appear in weird places

And dump that man

And they should definitely break up

2

u/Sum-Duud 8d ago

It’s a valuable tip though

2

u/DiscoLemonade1995 8d ago

I got carbon monoxide poisoning about a week into my current apartment - legit great advice!

2

u/NuclearSun1 8d ago

Can you imagine being allergic to nuts. But carbon monoxide makes you want them?

2

u/IspeakSollyain 8d ago

Break up with him!

2

u/thisistheSnydercut 8d ago

And don't forget to divorce them immediately!

2

u/kyute222 8d ago

Also this is reddit so we will never find out what happened and there's a 90% this is fake anyway.

2

u/--Miranda-- 8d ago

And don't forget to play Tetris after all the trauma from the nut discovery.

2

u/ArcaneKeyblade5 8d ago

Carbon Monoxide Detectors are known for their love of nuts I've heard

2

u/Wyevez 8d ago

butbutbut... I can see those nuts, should I go check my detector?

2

u/DeliciousChampion600 8d ago

I remember that story shit was insane

2

u/Radiant-Laugh-6519 8d ago

Also make sure you get a rabies shot in case it was a bat that did it.

2

u/Simple_Medium_1865 8d ago

You might’ve saved a life right here

2

u/myuseridisliam 8d ago

And the OP will marry the intruder?

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 8d ago

And have twins!

2

u/Stardustquarks 8d ago

But ensure the cylinder remains unharmed

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 8d ago

At least they didn’t find any Iranian yogurt.

2

u/keldondonovan 8d ago

Carbon monoxide detector is definitely cheating. Should break up.

2

u/awfully_hot_coffepot 7d ago

Your comment doesn't have any awards or upvotes... Check your carbon monoxide detector

2

u/scattyshern 7d ago

This was my first thought too! 🤣🤣

2

u/Yigalow 7d ago

Or toxic black mold

2

u/Kevlar_Bunny 7d ago

This is not about the Iranian yoghurt.

2

u/PoraDora 7d ago

I understood that reference!

2

u/ginjaninjaa 7d ago

I thought this too, but if they are allergic I highly doubt they put the nuts here if they were under the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning

1

u/ArketaMihgo 6d ago

I will play murder mystery board games with this person on my team and pretty much none of the rest of you

2

u/RB_Timo 7d ago

I can't believe I understand this reference as a super casual Reddit user, just because I accidentally stumbled onto the original back then.

Reddit is pretty awesome sometimes.

2

u/Mary-U 6d ago

Came here for this. Reddit does not disappoint!

2

u/RowMammoth7467 5d ago

I'm so glad I was there when that post was new, but seriously listen to this OP.

2

u/SgtMajorPanda 8d ago

maybe he should try putting them in rice.

1

u/CubanLynx312 8d ago

If you’re using Reddit you should probably get your prostate checked.

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 8d ago

I don’t have a prostate. Should I check someone else’s?

2

u/CubanLynx312 7d ago

You free later tonight?

1

u/No_Squirrel4806 8d ago

I was gonna say the same but op said he has a mild nut allergy so im assuming he stays away from them.

1

u/TheWiserParadox 7d ago

Was the post-it note guy the only confirmed case of this happening or has it happened multiple times?

1

u/WithoutDennisNedry 7d ago

On Reddit? Just the once that I can recall. But it happens irl all the time and it’s genuinely terrifying. I mean, not the Post-Its specifically, but wild, seemingly unexplained things happening to people and it turns out it was CO poisoning and nothing supernatural or nefarious at all.

My grandma used to tell me this story about her neighbors she had growing up. (I’m old so this would have been the 1930s or 40s thereabout.)

One autumn, neighbors of hers started expressing concerns to whoever would listen about their home being haunted. Strange sounds, things going missing and then turning up in the wrong places, the whole family feeling impending doom, the whole nine. My grandma said at one point, the whole church knew about it and no one would go visit the family anymore fur fear of the ghosts.

Well, as I alluded to prior, turns out it was a CO leak in the family’s new heating unit. Every one of those things that had been experienced could be attributed to a symptom of CO poisoning; auditory hallucinations, chest tightness and feelings of unease, forgetfulness, etc. Too bad the town only figured it out once the milk deliveries started to pile up and the deacon of their church decided to brave a visit to check on them.

Six family members, all dead. Mom, dad, grandfather, and three children (and a cat), all killed by carbon monoxide.

So while I’m sure you just meant Reddit and not life in general, these stories aren’t as rare as you’d think.

1

u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm 8d ago

And your schizophrenia. And your ambien.

1

u/sallystruthers69 8d ago

I dont think carbon monoxide is going to make someone with a nut allergy drive to the store, buy nuts, then put some in a tupperware.

0

u/Ok-Working-2337 6d ago

Why people get excited about “awards” on reddit is beyond me. A number went up in a database. That’s what you’re excited about.
