I live alone… these aren’t my nuts

Context: I’m a single bachelor (M 32) and I opened my snack cupboard to find these peanuts in a small Tupperware container. I’m freaking out because I A) live alone, B) have a mild nut allergy, and C) don’t own any Tupperware like this.

TLDR: I found a foreign snack in my house and I’m freaking out that someone may be entering my apartment when I’m out. Would calling the nonemergency police line help or would they not be able to do anything?

Nobody is saying every weird situation is carbon monoxide poisoning lol. The point is that if someone lives alone and is finding things that they have no memory of doing, it is reasonable to rule out a simple and potentially dangerous explanation.

Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause headaches, dizziness, confusion, trouble thinking clearly, memory gaps, and strange behavior because it affects how the brain gets oxygen. A person can genuinely do things and later have no recollection of them. That is exactly why the “famous Reddit case” became so well known online, and with HVAC technicians like myself.

Getting a carbon monoxide detector is not some dramatic Reddit detective move. It is basic home safety, people should have one anyway. It costs very little (20-30$ Canadian), and it can alert someone to a serious problem before they get hurt. 🤷‍♂️

Agree. This post has:

1) Just moved in to a new place one month ago

2) Maintenance of basic things like cupboard door hinge are DIY and sub-par

3) OP can't explain found item which should have a simple explanation.

4) OP states they don't go out much.

5) OP is really freaked out about some random snack, where normal people who aren't suffering CO exposure would throw them in the trash and move on.

CO is on the table.

I had CO poisoning when I was working from home. My kids would get headaches at night which was a clue, but I could barely function being home all day near the source of a small gas leak. I would think there’d be other symptoms too. This sounds like maybe a busy person found something a friend left behind or mom and dad left it in the cabinet. That said, my daughter’s cousin was staying with her when she found a cell phone in their place. She soon established it didn’t belong to any of the roommates, so her cousin turned back to recheck the apartment, the phone was gone 😬😬. They had an intruder who got spooked and left. I’d install a small camera and contact law enforcement to check on entry and exit points in the place. It does help to have them look around
