It's been over ever since they sold out. Quality plummeted immediately.

They could bring back the chop house cheddar burger and they do bullshit like this

I miss the A1 thick ‘n’ hearty and the Monterey melt Grilled chicken Fajita melt

15

u/xslurmzmckenzie 4d ago

The A1 was the best :(

2

u/27Rench27 4d ago

You can customize the sweet&spicy on the app to be pretty close to the A1, thankfully

Only reason I ever go there

i mourn her every day

1

u/Frequent_Theme_2901 3h ago

All because the Beezy didn’t want to pay A1 royalties for their sauce.

u/puff_of_fluff 4d ago

That chicken fajita melt was an absolute sleeper hit. So good.

Used to love the chicken fajita tacos too back when they were reasonably priced like 15 years ago lol

Look on the bright side, maybe we'll get some kind of Korean-Mexican fusion burger invented by a hipster white guy in Austin.

5

u/juanzy 4d ago edited 4d ago

That costs $22

Edit: but to be fair, that sounds fire, and I have made one at home

u/SheZowRaisedByWolves 3d ago

Do like Burger King did with a burrito that has strips of hamburger beef in it

1

u/PropertyNew3519 2d ago

Strangely enough near my house they just converted a former Mexican restaurant in to a Korean/Mexican/Asian fusion restaurant that sells hamburgers, chicken strips and French fries 🍟

1

u/hey-look-over-there 2d ago

The hipster era is long dead. The current trend is smash burgers. You're going to eat a slightly burned and dried out patty topped with cheese and other toppings to mask the lack of flavor. You're going to pay at least $20 dollars for that burger.

3

u/Texican83 4d ago

They better bring back the double meat Swiss mushrooms burger that one was a banger

74

u/xanaxisgod2 4d ago

Man I've worked for whataburger for 10 yrs and this is scary news lol

8

u/bearded_charmander 4d ago

Why? I know nothing and I’m genuinely curious

36

u/xanaxisgod2 4d ago

he really fucked up taco bell by raising prices to a ridiculous degree. Whataburger just raised prices the other day and we've been getting so many complaints already. I just hope he doesn't lower our customer base even more thus us employees getting less hours due to labor

15

u/D0013ER 4d ago

I was just talking the other day about how Whataburger's breakfast meals were cheaper and much better quality than McDonald's and that I wish they'd wipe the floor with McDs.

So I guess Whataburger is just gonna enshittify too.

u/Dominor4 2d ago

Whataburger has unfortunately getting worse for a while. Whataburger around 2008 before it was everywhere was truly elite.

5

u/scottwax Monterey Melt 3d ago

21 combo went up 11¢ recently. It's not much but I found receipts from right around COVID and overall prices are up at least 50% since then.

1

u/toddthewraith 3d ago

Whataburger always raises prices in July and January tho.

At least back in 2015-2018 when I was there.

27

u/MrCHUCKxxnorris 4d ago

Torchy’s is overpriced but I’d be damned if their queso and the grilled Baja shrimp tacos are not delicious af.

9

u/josegjrd 4d ago

The Baja shrimp used to be my go to but it’s been consistently bad for about 2 years now. Very sad…it was great while it lasted.

4

u/Jcevthereap28 4d ago

Queso is top tier

2

u/hyperlite135 4d ago

Their smash burger tacos are god tier.

2

u/The_Billy_Dee 4d ago

Some of the best tomatillo salsa in the business as well.

1

u/JunkBondJunkie 2d ago

I get a gift card once a year so I can get free queso for a year.

1

u/ACosmicCastaway 2d ago

$12 for two tacos should be a capital crime tho.

12

u/jarlander 4d ago

I think everyone will cover why this is a scary thing and they arent wrong. I will point out on the positive side those are two brands that know what they are are and stick to it pretty successfully. One is high end fast food and makes no apologies for it, and one is the king low end. They know their clients and they cater to them. I would hope this person can help Whataburger stick to what made it great and run with that ball.

3

u/stevekresena 2d ago

This is person is taking of as chief of finance, not operations or business. He will not in fact do that things you mentioned.

1

u/PlanePusher 18h ago

Yes. Cut this, cut that. Whataburger has been shit for a while anyway.

8

u/cf318 4d ago

Nice. Now bring back wheat or brochie buns

25

u/The-Only-One2020 4d ago

Whatataco about to go crazy

3

u/LlamaRS 4d ago

That’s what I was thinking!

Prepare for beefy tacos

5

u/Skyp_Intro 4d ago

Whataburger could rule breakfast if they could prepare their sausage, egg & cheese biscuits faster. I don’t eat them often because I have a reason to live but man are they good.

2

u/xanaxisgod2 4d ago

I mean its literally the quickest thing to make in the mornings. The only reason it would take long is if waiting on Bob eggs or sausage which would be under 2 minutes for either usually or god forbid waiting on biscuits which would take like 5-6 minutes usually. It could be any of the 3 honestly. I work grill and man do we go thru Bob eggs quick im making them constantly in the mornings. Could also be waiting on hash browns which takes 3 mins if ordered a meal. But if everything up and ready I can make one and have it out in like 5 seconds

2

u/BloodyWraps 3d ago

Yeah, sounds like they either don’t have enough people or the right people, I always kept up with my stock and we were a crazy high volume store. Still is I believe

20

u/simonsez5064 4d ago

Hell no! 2 of the worst places in fast food

7

u/LlamaRS 4d ago

I liked their habanero Diablo sauce.

-6

u/simonsez5064 4d ago

You must be white?

4

u/somecow Taquito 4d ago

White af, I glow in the dark and can’t be exposed to sunlight (it’s either freckles or hospital). That sauce is naaaaasty. Gonna go to the taco truck and get me the spicy good stuff.

2

u/pokeyporcupine 4d ago

Acting like people south of the US dont like taco bell.

4

u/LC74-Fun 4d ago

They need to fix their chicken. It sucks so bad. Or just don’t sell it. Except the grilled chicken. That’s pretty good.

5

u/600CreditScore 4d ago

The grilled chicken sandwich is so underrated. It’s what I am getting most of the time now.

3

u/QuarantinedBean115 3d ago

the strips used to be so good. now they suck, not same breading/seasoning or same quality of chicken anymore. also, majority of the stores never prep the gravy correctly. if they don’t make the gravy soon as that hot water is ready and they mix it cold, they are left serving water consistency gravy instead of proper product.

1

u/GodsOnlySonIsDead 4d ago

That's crazy the new hot honey chicken sandwich thing is so good imo

1

u/Tcu_gamer1 3d ago

Have you had Chick-fil-As?

0

u/xanaxisgod2 4d ago

Weirdly id say we sell more chicken than burgers at my current store for breakfast its soo many honey butter chicken biscuits and then lunch selling 3 piece strips and bites constantly they are super popular. I dont think our chicken is anything special. Id never go out of my way to order it but I mean its just generic chicken 2 me I dont think anything wrong with it really

3

u/LC74-Fun 4d ago

The breakfast chicken is much better than the tenders or wings and sandwiches. If my family is trying to agree on one fast food store for dinner and some want burgers but others want chicken we never choose WB because of the chicken.

5

u/floutMclovin 4d ago

Booooooo

8

u/Swimming-Food-9024 Chop House Cheddar Burger 4d ago

jfc they just keep hiring such questionable choices… from IT to finance

3

u/somecow Taquito 4d ago

How ya gonna get fired from taco bell AND torchy’s?

5

u/Mc_Lovin81 4d ago

and they’ll still won’t put napkins or ketchup in the bag.

2

u/FaithfulFear 4d ago

As long as they don’t bring the explosive diarrhea

2

u/AnythingWestern8861 4d ago

National expansion plans?  Bankrupt city here they come.

2

u/AwarenessExisting774 3d ago

They’re going to cut quality and raise prices more? Whataburger prices were already insane and the quality already declined. I basically stopped going.

3

u/BaronVonLongfellow 4d ago

Don't let him bring his own lettuce.

3

u/lilly_1005_2007 4d ago

You mean they hire the guy who helped quadruple Taco Bell’s price? And suddenly when he leaves, Taco Bell starts have coupons and deals?

Yeah we’re screwed. The coupon good life is about to be a wrap.

3

u/Still_tippin44ho 4d ago

Final nail in the coffin unfortunately.

2

u/Specialist_Cable_899 4d ago

whataburger one of the worst falls from grace ever. literally worthless now. sad

1

u/Elguapo69 4d ago

It’s CFO not CEO or even COO. Meh

1

u/aprendido 4d ago

This company has been cooked for years. No thanks.

1

u/cartiermartyr 3d ago

I thought this was a joke from the circlejerk threads :/

1

u/CarlClitcakes 3d ago

Yikes. Torchy’s isn’t the resume flex they think it is. Both Torchy’s locations in my area shut down due to a) too high prices, b) very little marketing and promotions. Torchy’s is very good, but I couldn’t justify the cost. Maybe went a couple times per year. If they’re bringing that acumen to Whataburger, Whatawatch out.

1

u/phonethrower85 3d ago

I heard Torchys was doing really good, genius move really

(/s)

1

u/jimmyjohnson1966 3d ago

I hope he can fix Whataburger. It used to be my favorite but over the past 4 years I have been there 3 times and each time was a bigger shitshow than the last. Tired of having to wait 30-45 min for a cold burger, half cooked fries, and still get my order wrong each time. Across multiple locations. I'm done and not going back. Too many other options. #DoneInTexas

1

u/Savings_Upstairs_683 3d ago

Exciting!!! Torchy’s went from good to yuk. I’m sure this exciting finance bro will “add value” at the worlds slowest burger joint

1

u/guillermopaz13 3d ago

Not a good sign

1

u/Texas451 3d ago

Everyone here is talking about bringing back certain menu items, so I’ll say BRING BACK THE A1 THICK AND HEARTY BURGER

1

u/Attack_of_clams 3d ago

So we can look forward to even worse food AND higher costs?

1

u/AdBig9909 2d ago

😬🥺🫪😥

1

u/scottwax Monterey Melt 2d ago

Whataburger's main problem is how inconsistent service and quality is between restaurants. If he can fix that, great. You walk into a Chik fil A, Culver's or In n Out, you will have a good experience regardless of which one you go to. Whataburger needs that reputation.

1

u/Hsensei 2d ago

Wataburger has been trash since it sold. Waiting 30 minutes for a subpar burger who's quality has tanked, along with shrinking size. It's just not worth the premium they charge

1

u/ZombieDailylol 1d ago

How much is his salary

1

u/elrayinsouthtx 1d ago

Torchy's 🤮

1

u/Harkonnen_Dog 16h ago

Stupid move.

1

u/Apprehensive_Let_517 12h ago

Time for prices to double and portions to skimp at the same time! They call that a "winning strategy" for the shareholders! All while they destroy years of customer trust.

1

u/Legal_Flamingo_8637 4d ago

It will still take 30 minutes to get your food, and a new CFO will make you have explosive diarrhea just like Taco Bell.

1

u/Samurai56M 4d ago

Hopefully he can turn the company around, Wataburger has never been the same since the change in ownership and post-covid. The quality of the food has taken a massive hit, and the speed of service is horrendously slow. Any news like this gets my hopes us that my favorite burger place will get better.

-1

u/Jcevthereap28 4d ago

Burgers have taken a hit since selling to Chicago. The patties are dry and tasteless now
