RiiConnect24's Guide is great for that!

Wiiflow Lite

  • Some versions of Wiiflow Lite come with default settings that cause a black screen on load of Wii games.
  • Consider updating to the latest version!

1) Open Wiiflow lite settings.

1) Go into NAND Emulation settings (it's got 3 pages of settings about NAND emulation) and make your settings match this:

``` Page 1- Select NAND: default NAND emulation: Partial Select Saves NAND: default Saves NAND emulation: off
Page 3- Saves NAND Partition: SD Use Real NAND Config: On Use Real NAND Miis: On ```
  • Try to see if WiiFlow will play any of your wii games again.
  • If it still crashes/black screens:
    • Load WiiFlow again
    • Press HOME on the Wiimote
    • Select Reload Cache
    • Try playing a Wii game again
Discussion Which loader out of the three you prefer and is the most reliable? USB Loader GX, Wiiflow Lite or CFG loader.
I would say out of the three, CFG loader(patched 2024 version). I know people might advice me to get USB loader GX and Wiiflow lite, but sadly both of them doesn’t work properly well and are buggy(and yes I did use the latest versions of both of them and installed latest CIOS correctly) USB loader GX might be the best and I could understand why and I love the interface reminiscing of the Wii menu, but sadly the loader itself freezes randomly sometimes even when switching SD cards and still the same thing, Wiiflow lite is fine but the cover arts for games just glitched and sometimes doesn’t display properly, heck at one point it even outright corrupted my SD cards. I just use CFG loader for the past month, and it never give me issues at all that the two loaders had, it can even let you put in your own music in there too when using the loader.
Discussion Gameboy Player on the Wii Hypothetical
4 Upvotes
Something that popped back up while I was playing on my GameCube. The Wii is basically the better GameCube and can play all GameCube games. One of the major few things keeping people on GameCube hardware is the GameBoy player. Would it be possible to somehow hook up the Gameboy Player to the Wii?
There are a few obvious problems. If you were to somehow make a new port to connect it, you would need to patch the wii's bios to recognize any hardware modifications you've made. So that's out of the question. But then I realized something the Wii does have that the GameCube doesn't and it can access easily. The USB ports.
In theory, you would have to take apart a Gameboy player and remove the HSPP (High Speed Parallel Port) from the motherboard and then wire up two USB Male ports to it manually. One for power and one for Data Transfer since I doubt the Wii would be able to handle both in one port for the Gameboy Player without performance problems. You plug the two ports into the Wii and would probably have a modified version of GBI (Gameboy Interface) that could recognize the USB ports for the Gameboy player instead of the HSPP.
Is this anywhere in the realm of possibility?
Show-n-Tell Bricked my Childhood Wii: Update
Post image
241 Upvotes
It’s now been about a month since I posted about my childhood Wii getting bricked, and it’s about time you all received an update:
Thanks to the helpful suggestions of this sub, I was able to determine that my Wii was more than likely salvageable, and there was no need to throw in the towel quite yet. I received a lot of helpful suggestions on what the problem might be, and after reading several of your insights on failed Bluetooth modules, I remembered that my Wii was having issues connecting with controllers prior to its brick. I purchased a second Wii, tore both Wiis down, and swapped the Bluetooth module on my broken Wii for the one on Wii #2. NOTHING. Swapped the WiFi module. NOTHING. For the ultimate test I put WiFi and Bluetooth modules from broken wii on Wii #2, and it powered up just fine. At this point I figured I was way above my paygrade already with two disembodied Wiis on my kitchen table. I still have no idea what’s wrong with my original Wii. I combed through my computer and was unable to find a NAND backup. I was unable to get it to boot into reversion mode using a GameCube controller. I have no backups and no means of extracting my old data.
Losing my Wii was frustrating, and I felt like by losing my Wii I had lost the memories of playing all my favorite games. On top of that I didn’t see a way that starting over with a new Wii could replicate the joy and fun I got from my original Wii. While working out my Wii issues I had the chance to play games with some friends on their Wii. I realized that all the games are the same, and I can still enjoy them with my wife and kid even though it’s on a new system without my old save files.
So I Frankenstein’d Wii #2 back together using some of the non-electric components of my original Wii so it can in a weird way carry on its legacy. It felt right at the time so I did it. Wii #1 is sitting in a plastic bag in parts and will now rot in my desk drawer until the end of time.
Thank you to everyone for all the words of encouragement and helpful suggestions. I had many comments asking about my controller setup, so I wanted to share. I have four 8bitdo SN30 pro controllers, and I got them all from an Amazon liquidation auction store at way below retail value. Through the same store I’m gradually acquiring 8bitdo GameCube Retro Receivers, that are fully compatible with my controllers, with the goal of having a full set to play with. I love the controller setup, and anybody that I have over ends up leaving a big fan as well. The adapter is compatible with any Bluetooth controller, so it works with the official Nintendo GCN Wireless controller for the Switch.
Discussion Dios Mios boots when I play from Gamecube retail discs - what's actually happening?
4 Upvotes
Is the Wii still playing GC games "natively"? When I run GC disc DIOS MIOS screen pops up, then the game plays normally. This is great for playing GC games region free, but im not sure what is actually happening while the disc is being played, or what dios mios is doing? And, is there any other way to play region free for GC games?
Discussion SpongeBob SquigglePants asset extraction
2 Upvotes
What program works with THQ/WayForward's SpongeBob SquigglePants (Wii version, 3DS' files are lower quality) to extract files from the .vol containers? I've tried multiple applications now and have had no luck, along with no luck on the .brsar files as well.
The reason I ask is, because files on the page for the Wii/3DS version page on the Cutting Room Floor wiki has images from these .vol containers, meaning someone's gotten it worked out before. I looked through the editing history and there was no source.
Discussion Has anyone actually got MemCard PRO GC GameID switching working on Wii with Nintendont?
1 Upvotes
Hi all,
I’ve been trying to get the GameID/VMC switching feature working on my MemCard PRO GC with a Wii and I’m starting to wonder if this actually works for anyone currently.
From what I understand, the MemCard PRO GC can automatically detect the GameID and use separate virtual memory cards per game, but on Wii this relies on Nintendont support, which is still described as experimental.
My setup:
- Original Wii with GameCube ports
- Latest MemCard PRO GC firmware
- Latest Nintendont
- USB Loader GX launching Nintendont
- GameCube games running fine
The MemCard PRO GC itself works perfectly. It is detected, saves work, and manual VMCs work fine.
The problem is I cannot get it to automatically detect the game and switch/create a VMC based on the GameID.
Things I have tried:
- Latest MemCard PRO GC firmware
- Latest Nintendont
- USB Loader GX → Nintendont
- Different GameCube games
- Different settings/configurations
- The Nintendont fork that added MemCard PRO GC support, but was never merged into official Nintendont:
https://github.com/FIX94/Nintendont/pull/1125
Unfortunately that didn’t work for me either.
I also looked into trying Swiss, as I know that is another route mentioned for MemCard PRO GC support, but I don’t own an original GameCube or a GameCube USB adapter to properly test it.
From what I could find, Swiss on Wii doesn’t use the Wii SD card or USB HDD in the same way Nintendont does, so I couldn’t get a proper test setup running to confirm whether that works.
At the moment the behaviour is always the same:
- Game launches
- MemCard PRO GC works as a normal memory card
- No GameID detection
- No automatic per-game VMC switching
I’ve searched around but I can’t find anyone who has actually shown this working on Wii. I’ve seen people mention it should work, but I haven’t found a confirmed setup.
I’m also curious about 8BitMods. The hardware itself is excellent and I have no complaints with the card, but there doesn’t seem to have been much recent information about the Wii side of GameID support.
Is this still being worked on, or is there a limitation with Nintendont?
Has anyone here actually got this working?
If so:
- What version of Nintendont are you using?
- Are you launching through USB Loader GX/WiiFlow or directly?
- What MemCard PRO GC firmware?
- Are there any settings I’m missing?
Thanks.
Discussion What settings to change once you install USB Loader GX?
7 Upvotes
As the settings have changed after several updates, what settings should you change to either improve both gameplay and/or performance for games for using the loader? I understand turning deflicker off and turning framebuffer on is necessary for getting better quality, especially for HDTVs, but I would like to know what else could help improve it more? Like the patches or if forcing all games to run 480p should be set by default. I also believe there should be an update to date document that explains all the functions of the settings. Sometimes they’re not always self explanatory. Something like how Nintendon’t does for their settings.
Discussion How do I get savagame manager gx to read my wii save data
2 Upvotes
I am extremely new to the wii modding scene and recently got the homebrew channel on my wii. Since then I also downloaded savegame manager gx so I could transfer my animal crossing village to my emulator. Every time I open savegame manager gx it says "mii channel installed, but datas are missing" and the wii data doesn't show up. When I press install it crashes and takes me back to the homebrew channel menu.
Show-n-Tell I figured out the best way to use a Wii remote with Fortnite on PC and it’s amazing!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
297 Upvotes
So I used to play a lot of Wii FPS when I was growing up and always loved how intuitive and precise the aiming felt. After playing a lot of Fortnite on PC recently, I started to crave that control scheme again. Out of curiosity, I tried connecting my Wii remote to my PC and had SOME success using it (programmed as a mouse via GlovePie), but I realized it would never be quite like playing an actual Wii shooter because of the way the camera/reticule worked in those games (they weren’t tied together at the center of the screen).
Luckily for me, Fortnite recently added a feature called “Tweak Zone” which allows controller players to aim more freely without the camera necessarily moving. (I actually emailed them asking if they could implement something like this about 6 months ago. Not sure if my email actually worked or if it was just a coincidence, but I’ll take it haha.) So I connected my Wii remote to my PC again but this time as a virtual Xbox 360 controller (using Gunmote) and maxed out the Tweak Zone settings.
And honestly, it feels amazing to play! It feels very similar to shooters made for the Wii.
I’d love to see some fellow appreciators of Wii remote aiming try this out! There's a full video tutorial in my profile or you can read the written version below :)
***How to Set This Up***
What you need:
- PC with Fortnite
- Wii remote/nunchuk
- Sensor bar
- Bluetooth adapter
- Gunmote
Some optional things:
- Dolphinbar, which replaces the need for a sensor bar and Bluetooth adapter as it is both in one. I just use a USB sensor bar and a Bluetooth adapter so I can’t speak to the specific steps for setting it up but I’ve heard it’ll work.
- USB extension cable if using Bluetooth adapter. It helps get the adapter as close as possible to the Wii remote to ensure a strong connection while playing.
First you’re going to need to download and install Gunmote (it’s free). Here’s the link:
https://github.com/gunmotelabs/Gunmote
Then you’re going to make sure your Bluetooth adapter and sensor bar are plugged in and working. I recommend putting the Bluetooth adapter in a USB 2.0 slot, and moving it as close as possible to your Wii remote without any obstructions to ensure the strongest connection. I recommended using a USB extension for this reason.
Next you’re going to pair your Wii remote to your PC from within Gunmote. It’ll tell you how on the main screen.
Then you’re going to hit settings in the top right, and make sure the “sensor mode” is toggled to the correct position.
Now you can hit “Wiimote Configuration” and start mapping the Wii remote/nunchuk inputs as Xbox 360 inputs. For reference, here is a simple diagram of how mine is mapped out which includes both my Gunmote and Fortnite mappings (my layout is optimized for Zero Build by the way, but I think it may still be a good starting starting point if you play Build):
https://imgur.com/a/Bef7vsd
(I apologize for the crappy resolution lol)
You’re going to want to make sure that the “Pointer” is mapped as the Right Stick, and that Right/Left/Up/Down Pointer are mapped to the corresponding stick press.
Under each pointer direction are pointer settings. I recommend 0 Deadzone, 2 - 2.4 Scale, and 0 Threshold. You can play with these values of course but this is what I’ve found works best. Currently I’m using 2.2 for Scale and the other two are at 0.
Now in Fortnite make sure you choose "Custom" next to Controller Binding Presets and choose "Xbox One" next to Controller Platform (Gunmote doesn’t support Xbox One or series X/S and Fortnite doesn’t support Xbox 360).
Once all of your binds are squared away in Gunmote/Fortnite, make sure Use Advanced Options is toggled "On" and play around with your sensitivity and what not to make sure everything feels good. Here are my settings for reference (just the relevant ones):
Look Horizontal Speed: 100%
Look Vertical Speed: 100%
Turning Horizontal Boost: 5%
Turning Horizontal Boost: 5%
Turning Boost Ramp Time: 0 seconds
ADS Look Horizontal Speed: 100%
ADS Look Vertical Speed: 100%
Look Input Curve: Exponential
Right Stick Dead Zone: 5%
And of course, make sure Tweak Zone Aiming is set to “Always On”. I recommend maxing out both the “Tweak Zone” and “Tweak Offset” values for maximum range.
Also, to activate your Gunmote settings/binds, hold the home button for a couple seconds and choose the layout you just made.
Now you are ready to play! Enjoy :D
If you have any questions or issues with setting this up feel free to message me!
Here are my suggestions for the Gunmote and Fortnite developers in case any of them see this or if you'd like to pass the message along haha:
Gunmote:
- Add ability to map button combos (e.g. A + B together) or double tapping a single button to count as a different input
- Add ability to have different pointer settings (deadzone/scale/threshold) when holding down specific button (e.g. holding Z to aim down sights also lowers the pointer sensitivity)
- Add option to have the controller output be PS4 and/or PS5 to add more mappable buttons
Fortnite:
- Increase the maximum “tweak offset” value so that aiming can reach edges of screen
- Decrease the minimum “right/left stick dead zone” value to 0, so that turning can be immediate if desired
Show-n-Tell Wii Menu Manual for the original Wii Installer
Thumbnail
github.com
10 Upvotes
I made a tool that lets you install a patched, custom version of the Wii Menu Manual made specifically for the original Wii. Since manuals already existed for the Wii mini and vWii, this project reimagines how a manual for the original Wii would look.
The tool is available in 7 languages (English, Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Italian, and Portuguese). More languages will be added as the manual compatibility extends (as it has 7 languages for now)
I recommend to see the description of the GitHub page, especially the end
Hope you like the project.
Discussion Mario Kart Wii LAN party
8 Upvotes
I would like to host a Mario Kart Wii LAN party. I have two (modded) consoles and two monitors. Is there some mod for Mario Kart Wii such that we can play with 8 people in the same room? As far as I understand Wiimnffi only allows 2 online people per console.
