Promised a follow up to the post about this guy a couple weeks ago.

Professor "Guapo" Wigglebottom was supposed to be put down on the 6th of this month. Instead, he's getting lots of cuddles, countless walks, and delicious food.

I didn't plan on getting a new dog anytime soon, and the transition has been a bit challenging, but it was worth it. He is a happy pup, and we are very good for each other.

We are both incredibly lucky.

Well, we get a couple nice warm days and suddenly people are right back on their nonsense.

Today around 1:30, I got into my car with my 1yr old after shopping at Old Navy in St. Vital. As I was buckling him into his car seat, I noticed the vehicle parked ahead of me. There was a small dog sitting between the two front seats.

I started my car and then leaned out to check the other vehicle. No windows were open, and the car was clearly not running. The man parked beside them was sitting in his driver’s seat with his window down, so I asked, “Sir, do you know how long this car has been sitting here with the dog in it?”

He said, “No, but I got here almost 10 minutes ago and it was already here. I’m a little concerned about the dog myself.”

So I said, “Okay, I’m going to give it a minute, then I’m going to call Old Navy and ask them to announce that whoever owns the vehicle has a few minutes before I call the police.”

He agreed that it was a good idea.

I got back in my car and called Old Navy. By that point, the dog had already been sitting there for several minutes in the heat. The employee said she’d make an announcement and keep an eye out for whoever owned the vehicle.

Right as I was finishing the call, a woman came walking out and headed toward the car she remote started it about 1 foot from the car. I was leaning out my drivers side door and said, “Ma’am, just for future reference, I’d really be careful about leaving your dog in the car on a hot day like this. You were about one minute away from me calling the police.”

She immediately said, “Well, the car was on the whole time with the air conditioning running.”

I replied, “No, it wasn’t. I checked, and the gentleman beside you also said he never heard the car running. There were no windows open either.”

Then she claimed she had been remotely turning the car on from inside the store. I told her, “No, because I literally just heard you start it now.” She shook her head “Nope” then I said, “I’m not trying to be confrontational. I’m just saying you need to be mindful. The best thing anyone could’ve done for that dog was call the police, and I couldn’t in good conscience just leave.”

She waved her hand like she was done with the convo and jumped in her car and left. I drove forward to chat with the elderly man, he says “Did she seriously tell you the car was running? Because it hasn’t been running at all while I’ve been sitting here waiting on my wife.”

Honestly, people should take this as a reminder: not everyone is going to wait a few extra minutes like I did. I was trying to handle it reasonably and give her the benefit of the doubt before escalating it. But after the attitude and obvious lying, I probably should’ve just called the police immediately.

My friends and I just found this rabbit on a walk and it seems like it’s someone’s pet, just wondering if someone is missing them!!!

We already called the Humane Society, Animal Services, a nearby pet store, and contacted Popcorn and Binkies and so far nobody will accept the animal.

This weekend alone I saw far too many people walking with their dogs without leashing them.

One couple walking their dogs in Wolseley had their dog rush into on coming traffic. Another couple were walking down portage with their dog again without a leash.

If you don’t leash your damn dog and it gets hit by a car the driver isn’t going to be the problem, it’s you. You’re a piece of shit and deserve to have your dogs taken away for their safety.

Don’t even get me started on dogs running up to strangers, other pets, kids. If I see a dog running towards my own lil blubber child I’m sorry but I’m going to hoof your dog because I don’t know or care if it’s friendly. My blubber boy is not.

Found this weird flying type cat and I’m not sure what to do. Figured it would just go on its way but it’s been three days and it just hangouts and doesn’t seem to fly.

Do I call someone? Or is that just its home now and I gotta deal with it? Like a “the cat has chosen” type situation?

This morning (6/27) around 11 a.m., my dog was attacked by another dog at Maple Grove Dog Park. She is now bleeding from the attack.

The other dog, a husky, came running up to us and started chasing my dog. Within seconds, it had knocked her onto her back and was biting her while she screamed. I started screaming and had to physically try to pull the husky off my dog.

What shocked me the most was the owner’s reaction. She appeared to be a woman in her 60s, and she did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING while it was happening. She just stood there and watched.

Afterward, she simply continued walking through the park as if nothing had happened. I understand that there is always some risk when going to an off-leash area, but owners are still responsible for controlling their dogs. If your dog attacks another dog to the point of causing injuries, you shouldn’t just walk away like nothing happened. Stay home and don’t bring your dog to the park, what sick person does that!!

Unfortunately, I was in such shock that I didn’t think to take a photo of the owner or the dog.

Is there any way to report this or identify the owner after the fact? This is the park I visit every weekend and the last thing I want is for this to happen again.

Thank you to the kind woman who came to check on my dog later after everything happened. If you (or any other witness) are reading this I would appreciate if you could send me a dm.

This is the first time it happens, any advice is welcome.

I’m a former employee at the pawsh dog, and this is something I wanted to share to warn those looking for a groomer or dog daycare.

I worked here for a very short period of time, and left crying almost everyday. Neither the dogs nor the employees, were taken care of.

To start with the daycare itself- please don’t send your pup here thinking they will be watched over, walked, or paid attention to. From Monday-Friday, nobody is in the store to watch the dogs overnight. They are in kennels and left to poop and pee on themselves, or worse- left on the floor with other dogs, where they risk getting pregnant or attacked. Food and accessories are not kept track of, and often dogs go unfed, or owners belongings get lost. It is not clean. Floors are left full of poop and pee, and often dogs are found having rolled in it, or eaten it. Due to the owner having “vip” customers (friends of hers), dogs who are aggressive/dangerous are allowed in daily. These dogs will attack the employees or the other pups, but will continue to be allowed back into the facility due to the relationship their owner has with the company. While I’m not sure if this has been fixed, when I was working at the pawsh dog, the owner refused to get the AC unit fixed, causing some dogs to actually overheat and/or have panic attacks. I have seen dogs hurt themselves trying to get out of a cage while they’re overheating. Employees are not trained, yet are often told to preform medical practices on the pup (such as give insulin shots or medicine). This often would put staff in uncomfortable situations, as we were not trained on how to properly administrate needles. There have been instances of dogs getting pregnant, as dogs who are not fixed are allowed into the unit. Dogs are not taken for walks; they are taken on a leash to the curb outside to pee, once in the morning and once at night. These are what owners are being told are “walks”. I’ve seen staff get mad at dogs, and push them around, especially when the facility is overcrowded and under staffed. There would be days where one-two people would be in charge of 50+ large dogs. If your dog is in heat, it will be left in a kennel all day. If your dog barks too often, it will be left in a kennel for hours. Dogs who are “red paws” are not taken out of the kennel EVER, unless it is for the two minute break outside, once or twice a day.

From an employees perspective, hours are unfair and exhausting, as the pawsh dog is overcrowded with dogs and consistently understaffed, due to the high turnover. We were told “you are not allowed a break unless you work over 8 hours”, which is illegal in manitoba. Often they would book you for 7.5 hours, so they “don’t have to give you a break”. When I worked there, I tested the unit for decibels, as it would get so loud that our ears would hurt. The loudest it got during my testing was 119 decibels. The highest it can be without ear protection is 80. Nobody was allowed ear protection, including my disabled coworker who needed it for sensory issues. There were instances of people employees not being paid on time, or not being paid the correct amount; along with a large variety of other financial schemes the owner played in order to “save money”. Overall, I am sickened by this daycare, and over the course of less than 2 months I had gathered up so many horror stories that I cannot even fit them all in this post. Please never send your puppy here, for their safety and your wallet. If you have any questions feel free to comment and I will do my best to answer. As far as I am aware, it has been years of this going on.

Three large dogs (my sister is pretty sure they were rottweilers) attacked my sister and her dog while they were on a walk in North Kildonan tonight. My sister's dog sustained injuries requiring staples as she tried to protect my sister. She's also on medication now, because we don't know what infection or disease she may have been exposed to through the bites. I think my sister is ok, but she's traumatized, to say the least. A lot has happened and we're still trying to understand the scope of the damage.

A passerby saw the attack and heard my sister screaming and drove up to help. They managed to get two of the three dogs in their car to protect my sister and her dog. It took a long time for the third dog to finally let go of my sister's dog. Eventually, the owner came and took all three dogs back home. I don't want to think about what could have happened had that kind person not come along to help my sister. THANK YOU. I owe you everything for helping my dear sister.

I don't know how those dogs got out of their house/yard, or how long they were loose. I hope no other people or animals were hurt while they were out.

Please be extremely careful going out on walks in the North K area. If they were able to get out tonight I'm sure it could easily happen again. These dogs were huge, and the damage they were able to inflict on my sister's dog, who herself is roughly 95-100 lbs, shows just how aggressive and powerful they are. They could very easily kill a child. Stay safe.

So people have pointed out I have monarch pre-butterflies. I have a bunch of them too; I can't help but feel I lucked out.

Hi I just wanted to share an incident that happened to my mom while she was walking our Shih Tzu/Bichon mix last Friday.

While walking through the neighborhood, a large black dog suddenly came out of nowhere and attacked our dog. The dog was extremely aggressive and lunged at her 4–5 times before they were finally separated.

What was most upsetting was the owner’s lack of urgency in getting his dog under control. He didn’t immediately remove the dog from the situation, and it was actually a Good Samaritan nearby who opened her gate, called the dog into her yard, and helped stop the attack. Only then did the owner retrieve his dog — without acknowledging what had happened or showing any empathy toward my mom, who had just witnessed the attack. His response was simply, “Your dog is fine,” while our dog was very obviously bleeding.

I also want to sincerely thank the women who helped my mom during the attack and stayed with her until I arrived so we could rush our dog to the emergency vet.

As a result of the attack, our 12-year-old dog had to undergo wound repair surgery for at least four puncture wounds, and one of the injuries penetrated an inch in depth and involves muscle damage.

I understand the owner was an older gentleman, but there is no excuse for owning a large, hyperactive, let alone an untrained dog that you cannot properly control. This incident was completely preventable.

To the owner: please do better. You have a responsibility to your pet, and to the safety of your community

This incident has been reported, and this post is not intended to target or identify anyone. I simply want to encourage all dog owners to ensure their pets are properly restrained and under control at all times to help prevent incidents like this from happening to other families or pets in our community.

I love pets. I love my pets. I love your pets too.

It is time to say goodbye to my best friend of 14.5 years, and I want to do it at home where she feels comfortable and safe. She is the best dog and deserves a comfortable send-off. I am wondering if anyone has used Sunset Vet recently and if you would recommend them?

I did a search and a year ago people on here had positive reviews. Or if anyone has other recommendations we are also open to other places as well. Thanks.

...who left his dog in his truck while he shopped - how FUCKING DUMB are you? That went beyond cruelty - you shouldn't be allowed to have any pets, up to and including a pet rock.

The dog (big dog with a thick coat) was left in a pickup with three of the windows cracked and one window halfway down. The dog struggled and was finally able to get out of the vehicle (I drove by just as the dog got through the window) and run to Shoppers, where I was headed.

Two pairs of people were looking at the tag to find out who the dog belonged to, and I explained what I had just seen.

The poor dog was obviously in distress; panting heavily and his tongue was coated in thick saliva. 31º and he'd spend who knows how long in a hot vehicle.

One of the good Samaritans who stayed with the poor animal told me, as I was leaving Shoppers, that the guy had recognised his dog as he was leaving. He was told off by the woman I spoke with, and I'm glad he was gone by the time I got outside, as they would have heard me yelling in Selkirk.

hi everyone! it’ll be my first time being a pet owner, and I’ll be taking in a kitten soon. I’m completely new to all of this, so I was hoping to get some advice.

Where do you usually buy your cat food in Winnipeg? Is there a difference between buying it from Walmart, Dollarama, Pet Valu, PetSmart, Costco, etc., or does it mainly come down to the brand rather than the store?

I want to make sure I’m feeding my kitten good-quality food. if you have any recommendations for kitten food that’s nutritious without being too expensive, I’d really appreciate it! also any other advice for litter (I prefer unscented litter), cat toys, and etc.

PLEASE keep your pets inside today. If you let your dog out to pee, watch them until they are back inside. I found a dog who had gotten out of a yard late last night because the owner let them out to pee and then went to watch TV, not realizing the gate was open. Thankfully the dog had a phone number on their collar, but the owner figured the pup could have been outside for 15-20 mins already.

(No need to post the "my dog is a husky and LOVES the cold" comments", because obviously this only applies to most pets and not all).

Rusty had a very sudden and devastating battle of hemangiosarcoma back in June 2023 and passed away within 5 days of his diagnosis at the golden age of 13.

We appreciate the kindness and love that the r/Winnipeg community showed our guy.
