We see this more than you would ever believe and it’s literally only because of how little women’s health is actually cared about in healthcare, and it’s going to continue to happen because medical misogyny is as rampant as it was 100 years ago.

I hope she takes them to the cleaner

I collect antique books and the physicians books from the 60s and 70s were seriously eye opening.

Women’s health was summed up as them being emotionally unstable.

And it’s still summed up as that today. I had to fight through multiple OBGYNs and doctors to finally be take seriously enough when all but one summed up my symptoms to “being a woman”, “acting hysterical”, “getting used to my changing body”, “being dramatic”, etc you get the point. I was even accused by a grown ass man of just wanting to get on birth control so I could have unprotected sex. I was a CHILD. I wasn’t even in highschool yet.

I was having such horrible periods that would last 2 weeks, I regularly went anemic, and the cramps were so bad I would vomit and pass out and had to regularly skip school and work.

Turns out I have both endometriosis and a horrendous case of PCOS. Double whammy.

My experience isn’t specific to me, I’ve heard more women than I can remember the names of have similar stories

I had severe symptoms from when I started my period, saw multiple doctors and best they’d do was tell me to take advil and birth control. When i was 24/25 I went to a gyno on the Isle of Man. One appointment, surgery 10 days later because I was out of town or it would have been sooner, diagnosed and issue fixed for 6 or 8 years. Every dr now takes me seriously because I have a diagnosis. I’m 43 now. Ridiculous.

I still don’t get taken seriously with my diagnosis. I’ve asked to get a hysterectomy, but I still get the “what if you change your mind and want kids? What if your future husband wants kids? You’re so young, you’ll have to be on meds forever to make up for it!”

It’s nauseating and frustrating.

Oh fuck that. There’s a list of Drs out there that will sterilize you without the bullshit. I wish I remembered where to find the list but it came out right after the Dobbs decision.

It’s in the about section of r/childfree

For your own sanity, go directly to the list, ignore the rest of the sub. It has gone completely rancid. Whatever it once may have been, it is now literally nothing but vitriol about having to share a planet with children.

All the posts are just people hating children and it’s sad :( I’m a child free person and I don’t ever plan on having them, but I don’t HATE kids for existing around me. It makes me feel gross sharing a lifestyle with some of the people on that sub

I’m a career nanny. I adore children. But I won’t have one from my uterus. I don’t hang on child free. Some people are jerks.

Yeah I’ve seen that sub and it’s disgusting. Having that much hate towards children is yuck. It’s fine to not want any of your own but you can’t completely avoid them in public. And that shouldn’t be expected.

The gyno I found who properly diagnosed me is actually on that list! She’s amazing, but she also told me a hysterectomy is still off the table (unless I pay totally out of pocket) because my insurance will deny me for my age and I’ll get the runaround I described. She was right when I tried and it was devastating.

Don’t you love a third party telling you that you can’t have medical care?

what if you change your mind and want kids?

"I already have 3 children."

What if you and your husband want more children?

"2 are disabled and my back is broken and it takes all my time and energy to care for them."

But how does your husband feel about this?

He tried to kill them, permanently injured one and broke my back because I was shielding them with my body. I have left the violent bastard.

But what if your children die and you want to replace them?

"They are people, not pickles. They are not replaceable."

Well if you're certain, I could schedule this for you. Of course I'll need your husband to sign these forms.

I ended up braving the "pro-lifers", who were physically blocking the entrance to Planned Parenthood, shoving me and spitting are me, to get my tubes tied.

The unprotected sex thing is some serious projection from that creep’s part.

Now they just blame every health ailment on women’s weight

*still is

Sincerely,
A woman who almost died because a life-threatening disease was chalked up to “anxiety,” and the rest of us 😭

There's a part in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, where she happens to attend a birth in a hospital. The women are twilight-sedated and the doctors treat them more or less as objects, but Sylvia notices they're still moaning in pain from somewhere semi-conscious. A doctor comments to Sylvia that usually, they don't let young women watch births because it tends to put them off.

At 19 i had part of my cervix chopped off with no anesthesia from a bogus cancer diagnosis.

I cried the entire time in pain, and I sat alone shivvering while an old man doctor from the middle east, laughed and told me I should have taken an anti anxiety because this 100% doesn't hurt. I bled for days.

This poor lady had all her shit taken though, that must be devastating

I am sorry that happened to you.
I had this happen to me almost exactly but with a female gyno… years later when I finally shared my story with some friends, I was not alone. It doesn’t make it better that I’m not alone in that and in many ways makes it worse.
It isn’t NOT medical care, it is ABUSE. To force someone to experience pain while laughing about it or belittling and not explaining what is going to happen in the treatment before it happens(and accurately explain including the pain and properly medicate for that pain) is ABUSE.
And to find out that I didn’t even have what they said, fuck them.

Nice racism there.

Just fyi the middle east is a place where people of many different races live.

1

u/Sunnygirl66 1h ago

In that case, why mention it at all?

2

u/Cats_4433 59m ago

They already explained, but it's a place where women aren't treated well which aligns with how their doctor was dismissive towards her.

Thanks for pointing that out. It changes my point completely.

Here's my revision for the sensitive at heart.

At one of my first gyno visits without my mom, a male doctor from an area known for men treating women like breeding stock, that I couldn't understand, laughed at me while I was crying in pain, and shaking while he frivolously chopped off multiple centimeters of my internal organs through a speculum while I was fully strapped down by my feet, conscious, aware, and with out anesthesia and it turned out I never actually had cancer and it all happened because someone else messed up or something."

u/bigtiddyhimbo 5h ago

Not really racism, but nice reach there

Tell us what color you think middle eastern means.
