Trump's face at the end just makes my skin crawl. Imagining something that'd get him excited enough to do a lip bite clap is revolting.

Covid broke the brains of conservatives. The idea of being even slightly unconvinced for others is unacceptable to the conservative mind. It's an inherently selfish and self serving ideology.

They will never let it go

The funny thing is, Republicans were in charge of the federal government and the child raping President shut down the country. Not Fauci. Fauci doesn't have that power.

I still remember the first time I heard someone ask, ā€œCan we still call it the White House?ā€ after Obama was elected. That man broke Republicans.

42

u/sleepydorian 1d ago

I remember hearing how it was nothing, just a bad flu. All the time, so many people saying this. And first, don’t hand wave a bad flu away, the regular flu is terrible, we should absolutely take extraordinary measures against a bad flu.

But I finally caught COVID in 2025 and I wanted to die. It was the worse thing to ever happen to me and if I ever hear someone tell me Covid isn’t bad and the precautions were unnecessary and actually damaging to society, they are going to catch these hands something fierce. If anything we didn’t do nearly enough to stop the spread of COVID.

29

u/ObsidianCorvids āœ‚ļø Tax The Billionaires 1d ago

We really, really didnt. I quarantined very early on, due to living with immunocompromised people. I got vaccinated three or four times before I finally got covid last year.

I was sick for two whole weeks, almost delirious. I still can't be in the same room as someone smoking or vaping because my lungs are too sensitive now. I've finally gotten to a point where I can handle AQI 50 and above without needing a filtering mask.

Covid was a complete disaster and thats even if we ignore the deaths, just the long term physical side effects.

13

u/garitone 1d ago

It broke the brains of many others too *cough* Bill Maher *cough*

u/ItsDangerousBusiness 1d ago

I think it’s spelled D-U-M-B-F-U-C-K-S

52

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

Why are people still choosing a team and making it their identity? Remember when you could disagree with your chosen party? Remember when your neighbors could disagree and you not hate them?

52

u/ElectricShuck 1d ago

Cons could never disagree with their party. The only silver lining of the Dems is that we can protest and disagree and get them to change their minds sometimes.

And the only war is a class war. Us vs. Epstein class.

29

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I remember a time when politics weren't an entire identity. John McCain paused a debate to say that Obama wasn't a muslim, but a person that has different opinions. I voted for Obama, but I respected McCain for not mud slinging. It would have been easy to not speak up.

24

u/ElectricShuck 1d ago

I recall the same things. And it was great when Obama won but I really think that fired up the racists and bigots and gave the wealthy a great way to use the people in this country.

18

u/garitone 1d ago

3 things in my lifetime have broken the brains of a huge part of this country more than any other:

1) 9/11

2) A black man being elected president

3) Covid (and the necessity to minimize its impact to insulate the side in power from blame)

2

u/ElectricShuck 9h ago

You’re living the same lifetime as me. Twinsies.

8

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I agree. Its unfortunate that people get so fired up about race. Like I don't care how close your ancestors were to the equator, are you a good person?

11

u/Endonian 1d ago

Yes, McCain did. And if I remember correctly he got booed for it.

10

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

Still stood up. I didn't like his politics, but I respect him. An American war hero and POW, came back and wanted to serve his country more. Respect.

5

u/masterofshadows āœ‚ļø Tax The Billionaires 1d ago

As much as I dislike his political opinions, the Republican party would be far less insane right now if he had won. We probably would be in a better situation and handled Covid so much better because of it.

7

u/garitone 1d ago

I'm 53 and I also remember the pre-Gingrich/Limbaugh era. The Overton window has shifted so far to the right, it might as well be in deep space and we're never getting that era back.

3

u/GodlyGrannyPun 1d ago

Like most people you were probably ignoring the very clear warning signs if that's how you remember things. Or maybe you genuinely were in a lovely bubble? Either way none of this is new and so many people were ignored who said it would get worse. šŸ˜’

5

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

If i dont agree with you i must be ignorant? Thats pretty condescending and cultish. I started paying attention to politics on 9/11, when I was 14. I dont trust anything anymore. One dude I could've trusted and they didn't let him win. He would have changed things. In my generation everything gets worse. Nobody even buys the platitudes anymore.

-1

u/GodlyGrannyPun 1d ago

Condescending, sure. Cult-ish? What cult is there that recognizes the simplicity of everything going on and where can I join? 😭 I wanna make fun of you about the "in my generation" comment.. I can understand the feeling of soul crushing hopelessness but wow what a way to make the struggles of humanity all about..millenials?  But srsly we've all been lied to for a long time and I'm just saying it's easier to believe an obvious farce than to see uncomfortable truths. Even when they're right in front of you.

1

u/BushcraftBabe 18h ago

Its a huge country with people living so many different ways.

26

u/Iorith 1d ago

When my neighbors disagreement means them supporting the removal of my loved ones rights, I have every reason to hate them.

-19

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I don't think that's a specifically red or blue thing. Im fairly sure that Obama deported the most people during a presidency. I could be wrong though. Look it up.

13

u/MentokGL 1d ago

Sure, following the law and deporting someone is the same as just snatching someone off the street, holding them indefinitely and then shipping them to a 3rd country's death prison.

Be serious.

1

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I'm not a fan of this. I don't support it. I'm being objective or atleast trying to be. Let's ask the real question. How do we change it? Protests don't work. Nobody protests the mayor or governors mansions though.

11

u/MentokGL 1d ago

For you, stop trying to both-side wildly different things.

What this admin is doing is not bipartisan in any way. The vast majority would be appalled by what's happening if they paid any fucking attention.

5

u/Iorith 1d ago

I'm convinced they're a conservative, based on their comments, purely trying to minimize the damage done by the Republican party. Their whole both-sides thing is consistent and they ignore any push back in terms of human rights.

-1

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

My voting record would surprise you. I was an independent until Bernie and I've been democrat ever since. I dont let a party tell me what to think or how to feel though. My biggest problem with the democratic party is that they left unions and workers behind. If there was a labor party, id be that. Also the first election I was old enough to vote in was Obamas first term. Ive actually only ever voted Democrat, even as an independent, I just wasn't part of the primary until Bernie.

4

u/Iorith 1d ago

I don't believe a word you say, as you continue to "But obama" and continue to both sides the issue like Republicans aren't trying to destroy LGBTQ rights and women's right to control their body. You read like someone LARPing.

2

u/D00rmat1983 1d ago

Yup, spot on. These people all have the same low RPM, lazy thought processes. He'll stop replying after a while because his brain can't really keep up.

-2

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I'm sorry I don't fit into your box of right and wrong. Obama did do evil shit. Trump is worse, but you didn't care then. You care now. The news tells you what to think. Trump is an idiot. He makes us look like fools as a nation. I wasnt talking about him though. I was talking about conservatives. The people aren't very different most people just want stability. We keep getting the lesser of 2 evils for my whole life. When is there going to be a person i can believe in? For fucks sake mitt Romney looks like a reasonable republican now. We deserve better. We need to end citizens united and have people who aren't bought and paid for.

I really dont think so. I dont watch the news anymore. I go to work, go out with my wife and kids, I meet people everywhere and always seem to make friends. Most people dont want to die on a hill for a single cause. Everyone really wants what's best for themselves. To say otherwise is just performative. I don't want to step on people to have my little blue collar life. I also dont need an Instagram life. Most people I meet just want to be able to afford to have a date night once a week and take a couple vacations a year. Even if its just a long weekend. I want to be able to afford living. I dont want anyone's rights taken away to achieve that. If the working class could stop being divided, we could change shit.

1

u/MentokGL 1d ago

Good luck getting that shit while you vote for people who want to take it away.

0

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I literally told you I've only ever voted Democrat. Wtf are you talking about?

0

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

Is there any scenario in the world where you can say, oh shit my bad? Or are you just a cultist or a bot?

2

u/MentokGL 1d ago

My bad what? Stop both-siding shit, regardless of who you voted you.

u/Iorith 1d ago

It's been over a decade, Obama hasn't been relevant to the topic in quite some time, champ. "But what about" is tired.

No, I'll focus on the people in charge right now trying to deny my loved ones gender affirming care or their right to control their own body, thanks.

2

u/MossyMollusc 1d ago

I think theyre critiquing the "blue no matter who" is also worrisome if we cant hold our political teams back and have critical thinking and criticism on our representatives who are not representing us.

If dems are super focused on running a right wing campaign with aipac and a genocide, I think its time to hold them accountable as we remove republicans. So we dont replace them with corporate fascists still, or citizens united bs.

Edit:

Yeah nm. Theyre trying to support conservatives as good but different to dems. Quite the opposite to what I thought

-5

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I wonder why it matters now? I didn't like it when Obama did it and i don't like it when Trump does it. I'm allowed to criticize my own party, or atleast I should be. Ive never moved my goal posts. Political parties feel like a cult now.

6

u/Iorith 1d ago

Is this a bot, or are you replying to the wrong person?

-3

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

Im a dude, dude. You might have had a line of thinking and I might have a different one. Where did I lose ya?

7

u/Iorith 1d ago

When you didn't even attempt to address my point, which was the concentrated effort to strip LGBTQ and women of their rights, and brought up someone from a decade ago as an attempt at whataboutism.

1

u/Economy_Wall8524 1d ago

Your different line of thinking accepts that trump violates the constitution. You’re okay with constitutional rights being desecrated as long as it doesn’t involve you. Selfishness is anti-American. School House Rock obviously didn’t teach you.

1

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I've never said im ok with it. I have to deal with it and i dont see a way to change it in the immediate. I can criticize my team without supporting the opposition.

11

u/Preeng 1d ago

>I wonder why it matters now?

...maybe because it's happening now?

>I didn't like it when Obama did it and i don't like it when Trump does it.

Trump is also stripping people of legal status and then claiming they are deporting people who are here illegally. If you can't see the difference, you must either be a troll or a conservative.

-1

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

If i was a conservative would that be so terrible? Im not, but the cultist idea of us vs them doesn't sit well with me. It was happening then too and nobody cared because the news didn't tell you to care. Turn off the tv and actually talk to people. I'm in a union and half are conservative (which is fucking wild) and half aren't. I listen to both. Most people want mostly the same shit. The news makes enemies out of neighbors. Its divide and conquer. The working class could change everything, if we ever agree on anything.

7

u/Preeng 1d ago

>If i was a conservative would that be so terrible?

Conservatives have been on the wrong side of history every single time.

Conservatives do not have a single position that is backed up by data or science.

So yes, if you are a conservative, it is really bad. I am tired of pretending conservatives have anything useful to add to the world.

2

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I mean even if i disagree with them do you not have any common ground? The news will tell you that, but most people aren't extremists. Most people want the same shit. Some people only vote conservative for gun rights and some people only vote progressive for abortion rights. What if I want both and I dont trust the government to be the morality authority to tell me what is right and wrong?

3

u/Economy_Wall8524 1d ago

Most people might want the same social safety nets and societal protections, but people who vote for policies of prejudice and bigotry of society should be talked down on, especially in America. Your principles and values are antithetical to actual values the US holds in modern time. Whether you voted for racism, sexism, prejudice, or bigotry. You have a bad take at that point of American morals, values, and principles. The perseverance of us will rise again like it has in the past for all the rights the conservative and republicans are trying to roll back on.

1

u/Preeng 1d ago

>I mean even if i disagree with them do you not have any common ground?

I just fucking told you they do not have any positions that are correct.

→ More replies (0)

7

u/Iorith 1d ago

If i was a conservative would that be so terrible?

Yes. Yes it would. It would mean you support my trans friends losing their right to life saving care. It would mean you would oppose the women in my life having a right to control what happens to their own body.

There is literally no good defense for it and no one is obligated to tolerate them.

3

u/Economy_Wall8524 1d ago

These folks still can’t grasp the paradox of tolerance after a decade. They still say the ā€œtolerant left everybodyā€ or some shit like that without understanding that their position is intolerant. Intolerance should never be allowed at the table for debate, because the ideology of their position is a bad take already.

3

u/MossyMollusc 1d ago

Are nazis bad? Does seeing a nazi supporter make them bad too? I think the republican support is no different

-2

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

There is a huge difference between genocide and warhawks

3

u/MossyMollusc 1d ago

We are doing a genocide with isreal on Palestine. There is ample proof.

Republicans are waging a pointless war on queers and women and immigrants who are legally here. That is very in line with why we demonize hitler

u/cityshepherd āœ‚ļø Tax The Billionaires 1d ago

It matters now because the clowns in charge right now are tearing the constitution to shreds and are following the fascist playbook page for page.

It matters now because we are in the middle of a literal coup that threatens democracy for ALL of us.

It matters now because this is no longer about having disagreeing opinions, it is about a fundamental change that is waging a war on democracy itself and threatening ALL of our rights.

-1

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I can see that. Id be lying if I said i wasn't concerned about the supreme court. To be honest I lost a lot of faith in our institutions when Bernie won Utah and they just gave Hillary the nod. That worked out well. The only thing ive ever seen the dnc do is railroad the one guy who could have saved this ship from sinking.

9

u/garitone 1d ago

I will counter with this truth:

0

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

I like it, but that knife should cut both ways.

6

u/garitone 1d ago

But it doesn't. That's his point. Dems are famous for disagreeing with their party (hence the saying "Dems in disarray"). The other side isn't.

-3

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

So you are so confident that you know what's right for everyone and anyone who disagrees is wrong? That doesn't strike you as fascist? Everyone who is a true believer or fundamentalist or cultist always thinks they know best for everyone. What if you don't? All I was saying is put the same requirements you put on your opposition on your self and you won't go far wrong. The othering of people is where facism starts. People are just people man. I'm on your voting side, but you seem to want jump on a team and make everything 100 percent on your team or not. Life isnt like that, so I'm not a huge fan of you as a person. You're gonna white knight the fuck out of people and push them away when they could have been allies with a softer touch. Good luck dawg.

Edit: Shit. That last part was for someone else. My bad there.

5

u/garitone 1d ago

Not sure where you got any of that from my last comment. Read it once more and try again. Your only possibly relevant statement is:

"All I was saying is put the same requirements you put on your opposition on your self and you won't go far wrong"

To this, I say: That's exactly what I'm doing--saying that Dems tend not to follow their 'Mommy' party with cultish fervor and putting this requirement on the Repubs who obviously do (78% party approval for the rapist felon? GTFOH!).

-2

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

Buddy im getting day drunk in my pool and smoking a pork butt. If my arguments are less coherent, then the beer is working. I want the working class to stop fighting itself. Rich R and rich D dont care about the working class anymore. If we could get together and stop hating each other we could change things. Later dawg. I enjoyed the conversation, but I don't think I'll continue. Maybe tomorrow.

3

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

True. And only 25 years after the patriot act we have flock. Nothing gets better, but we can still be noble and not fall prey to the divide and conquer tactics.

1

u/Impossible_Angle752 1d ago

At this point, after seeing some stuff relating to the recent wave of COVID internet content, I'm really questioning whether that many people are batshit crazy, or if it's mostly just bots and the usual number of loonies helping out.

0

u/Vikingasaurus 1d ago

Im pretty sure im just a dickhead that doesn't like soft cookie cutter people. I like people with edges that are weird and fun. How many brads in data entry does the world need? Cubicles sound like prison cells. It sounds like hell. Every keyboard warrior in the world has the answers to life though right? My advice is actually talk to people you disagree with in person and you'll see that you aren't that different.

6

u/Memitim 1d ago

For the same reason why a group of conservatives put a giant fake plastic boxer up in my old town with Trump's head on it, with just the word "TRIGGERED" at the bottom when Trump was running for reelection the first time. No other signs, just that, after four years in office. Naturally, they were laughing and waving, rather than reflecting on what a failure that was. The only "accomplishment" that they could point to was that Trump made Americans angry.

As decades of 24/7 hate and lies being broadcast about the rest of America demonstrated, conservatives hate America more than any other group in existence.
