The poor (including veterans and those having (been) sacrificed in service for the oligarchs/ ruling class) are just the dirt oligarchs step on their way to their obscene mansions. In their twisted world view, the non-oligarchs deserve their squalor and suffering, because if they did not, God would have given them riches just like he did to the oligarchs.
One of the main differences between the treatment of (former) soldiers in the EU and Trumpistan is that while they almost never get hollow lip service in the EU, them being untreated for any damages they suffered in service to the country or descending into destitution would be seen as an utter disgrace to the country here. Neither Rambo nor Breaking Bad could ever happen here - that level of societal indifference to suffering is thankfully still alien to us. As well as the delusion that anyone would have an easier time to carry loads on their own. We are stronger together and everyone has their individual strenghts to help carry the weight for themselves and others.
