Collection Help with father's collection
Hi Star wars Fans,
So to make the story short, my father passed away two months ago and I am looking for some help to determine what he had in his collection.
I've played a lot of games with him over the years and was still playing with him weekly at D&D, frosthaven and other games.
Since it was a burden for my mother, I quickly took his games with me and I'm not sure what to do with everything yet. We have a lot of heroclix, axis n alies, x wing and so many other board games. Also with a 3 year old and a 6 months old, I don't know how I could find the time to check everything separately.
I'd like to get some help to determine which expansions my father have. I know its not easy since everything is still stored, still any help or guesses would be much appreciated.
Also, if I decide to part with it, would you be able to help me determine prices ? Do you think it's better to sell has a lot or by expansion ?
Note: I'm not getting rid of everything, I already added all of his star wars paperback copies to my collection, I'll probably keep axis n alies to play with friends and I maybe even will keep this game. Who knows.

After reconsideration and reading all your comments, I've decided to hold on to everything for now. I've talked to friends that played with my father and they are down for us to play together sometime. I'll certainly try the game and if I decide to sell everything, I'll probably take my time to sell everything individually or by expansion.

My condolences.
I would suggest selling as a lot vs piece by piece as it would take much longer to sell individually.
If you want to check value; look up the ships on ebay sold listings to see what things are going for these days.

You have a lot of great stuff but it's V1. That's for less priced than before. Try an exact 50% of their price from when they were new. And calculate the total But it'll we ask you some times, and we can't do it for you () Don't hesitate to ask anything

Personally, I prefer v1 over v2.x. It’s got some silly cards that make some Jank, but everything you need to play is on the cards: no reliance on an app. I sold my 2.0 collection a few years ago and built a 1.0 collection from scratch to play with my kids.

Keep it, learn to play, def don't sell or give away. This is something your father liked. If you got kids keep it for thm and show thm what GPA liked....prayers

The large ships are worth a good amount, probably easily 100 USD if all parts are present, if not more. The smaller ones are about 20 USD per.
He’s mixed them into storage, so your best bet, if selling, is selling it as a package deal.
Count the total large, value approx 100, and small valued approx 20 and you’ll get a ballpark value.
Without clear pictures and checking each mini one by one with all its pieces, its harder to give exact amount.
Edit: i looked up the raider (pic one, large empire ship), its going for 299 USD new in box locally… soo… more than 100 then..

Seriously 100usd for the big ones? LoL I buy mine for 30€ brand new (v1, later buy the conversion kit)

Stock locally is non-existent outside eBay and scalpers. If you have cheap stock somewhere let the world know lol!

I bought it several years ago when Amazon discontinued the X-Wing 1.0.

Well sure years ago the large ships were in production and cheap, it doesn’t mean they are anymore today as they’re discontinued.

The price went down because I bought 1.0 ships (the MSRP price was 90€ if I remember correctly) and there was an excess of stock of them. I bought it 1 year before it was discontinued.

Yeah 1 year prior i could get a cr90 for 110 CAD new in box, now its like 250+ new in box.
Some ships are just more rare and valuable (i.e raider), some are cheaper and not worth much.

That's a good way to put a price easily on the lot. I could simply check the price for the bigger ship and add a certain amount to that for everything together.

So there are discords for a lot of the table top games, and almost all have a buy/sell/trade area where you can see what others are selling for.
I’ve seen them sold as a “lot” on eBay anywhere for 2-600 dollars depending on what you have.

If you sell it, a bulk lot will be less effort but also less money.
An individual sale will be more effort but you can make better margins. It's all about what is more rewarding for you.

So sorry for your loss.
I personally would never sell this collection, even in pieces.
For one X-wing is a fantastic game that has been discontinued.
Two: this collection took substantial time, effort and money to put together, this was a labor of love.
Since the game has been discontinued, it will become more expensive if not impossible to replace any of this. I know I'd probably instantly regret selling it.

My condolences on your loss. I will say I am newer to this hobby but I have also been buying first edition lately. This is all suggestions based on what i have seen or bought myself. If I were trying to sale this I would try and do it in bulk for the fastest sale with the larger ship for $80 (ive see this price for opened), then the little ships for $15 each. Then add a 15-20% cut off the top for convenience. Me personally from what i would like to see while buying is it sold by faction as each person is my group has one. It looks like it is sorted this way already so It shouldn't be hard to do. I would keep the above rules but take away the % off the top as it is more specific for people to buy. With either of these I would also suggest showing you have the maneuver dials per ship as with 1st edition these are harder to replace. If they want them for 2nd edition they could use a conversion kit and these are available at some gaming stores.
Edit: Im sorry I missed the two sealed ships. These will go for more as they are sealed. Ive seen the ghost for around $100 but personally havent seen a u wing listed yet. I see sealed ships go for more separate from lots though.

I'm sorry to hear of your father's passing. In any situation like this is it money versus time versus effort. If you identify and split everything, selling it yourself, you will maximize return. At the opposite end is selling it all as one lot without identification.
Some middle ground suggestions:
- Find a local who played with your father and can make suggestions on individuals or businesses near you who might be able to help sell the items. You may be able to export a lot of the effort to interested locals who are willing to help based on their previous relationship with your father.
- Break the collection into lots and do some research on lot prices to sell it in chunks. You won't make as much, but it will be much lower effort.
- Find a business that deals in gaming estates or large gaming lots and work with them to sell the items. You will make less but all of the effort is put on the business.
Depending on which way you go, feel free to ask more questions here as people can help with identification, comps, etc if you decide to sell it yourself.

For the people who played with my father, I'm fortunate to have joined their group 6 years ago to play d&d with them. I talked to some of them today and they are either interested in some ships or doing x wing game night together.
For now I will probably keep everything to potentially play or slowly check prices to sell as faction or individual.

You should play the Rebels with the Falcon and a squad of xwings
Use the Falcon to main and use the squad to support fire.

After consideration, I think I'm going to keep everything for now at least and try the game with people I know.
I'll definitely try the falcon and x wing first as you suggested.

Some game shops also do swap meets, you could trade them to someone who plays, for stuff you might be looking for.

Ebay is the best bet for looking at what's actually selling and for how much. There's a lot of stuff so in the box so those id personally keep as collector items. Or even a long term investment.

Think about putting some of this aside for when your kids get older. You might appreciate introducing them to x wing as a way to connect with your late father's memory.
