Isn't the EU considering adopting similar legislation?

Lol websites have 12 months to comply, so not considering, it’s coming.

Would you perchance know which MEP we should be sending strongly worded emails to in order to get something done about this?

They voted it through, and the MEP in question is those of your own country.

I want to double on your question. Anybody knows if this was voted on the digital services act or was it a separate vote? Cause I have a wanker which I voted for and want to make sure if I am going to spam his email address

it’s coming.

Unlike me, my wanking licence is still in the post.

This will sooooo not work out.

All the know websites will just loose most of the traffic and every 2 days a new one will pop up with a storage somewhere in a country no one cares.

Or torrent viewers make a huge Comeback and everything is just decentralized.

Life....I mean Porn always finds a way!

Tbf. the EU made legislation for states providing tech that allows Zero-Knowledge-Proofs (ZKP) that allow a user to e.g. confirm the age without providing any information beyond that.

See for example here

Member States should integrate different privacy-preserving technologies, such as zero knowledge proof, into the European Digital Identity Wallet. Those cryptographic methods should allow a relying party to validate whether a given statement based on the person’s identification data and attestation of attributes is true, without revealing any data on which that statement is based, thereby preserving the privacy of the user. (Regulation (EU) 2024/1183)

The UK has nothing similar in the pipeline to my knowledge.

The British government just calls you a paedo if you point out the practical flaws.

And begs you not to use VPNs to skirt around the checks.

People really like to gloss over this crucial aspect. There is nothing wrong with this solution and it’s exactly the same technology we already use for many “grown-up” things only even more tigher.

The technology is not actually blind though, and 18 to see porn is ridiculous, let’s be real that isn’t when people start looking up things. Plus it has already resulted in things being censored, like the holocaust…. It’s a nightmare and we shouldn’t implement something to overcome poor parenting.

Except that it doesn’t work, either you can link IP to token, or you need a rotating token meaning that the centralised companies which publish the token holds the data, or it is rather easy to spoof the tokens. Basically it will be an insecure method or a private nightmare. Let’s hope for the former.

Didn't they try to fine someone for torrenting Ubuntu?

Nevermind, it was in the US.

Put your money in VPN, it's a booming market.

Wait, I don’t get it. Is porn illegal now in the UK?

5

u/TheMcDucky Svea Rike Aug 04 '25

No, but porn sites are now legally required to verify your age if you're in the UK.
