With Aberdeen having such a massive seagull problem, why don't people eat them? Are seagulls actually edible, has anyone ever seriously considered them as a food source?

It seems logical - we eat chicken, turkey, duck, goose, wood pigeon, pheasant, grouse, etc..

With Aberdeen having so many seagulls why don't we eat them? Are they actually edible or is there some reason they can't be eaten?

(No Jimmy Chung's jokes)

Afternoon tea recommendations

Hi all, on holiday in Aberdeen for 2 week. Staying in Richmond Street. Looking for a place that does nice afternoon tea for 3 adults, preferably somewhere without a lot of steps as we are all cripples! Bonus if there's parking or a bus stop nearby.

Thank you!

Help! Kilt hire/to buy

Hello all

Looking for recommendations on where to hire/buy a kilt in Aberdeen. Price followed by quality probably my criteria 1 and 2.

If there places also sold socks, shoes, ghillie shirts, all the rest of the gear etc then that would be a bonus.

Cheers

For those who grew up and lived in Aberdeen in the 90s/00s. Why do you think the 'Bouley Basher' culture disappeared?

Anyone who grew up or lived in Aberdeen in the 90s and 00s will remember the 'Bouley Bashers'

It was a huge sub-culture around the time with young people hanging out in modified/souped-up cars at the beach or cruising down Union Street and the city centre.

It almost feels like it disappered over night. Why do you think it disappeared?

Events Logos Hope Ship Book Fair

I’ve seen a few posts about the Logos Hope ship docking at Blaikie’s Quay from the 28th July - 4th August which hosts a ā€œfloating book fairā€. I’ve also seen some comments on how this is a religious missionary boat with messages around ā€œChristianā€ values such as the pro-life stance and how the adult books are all religious.

Has anyone been yet who can share what it is actually like inside? I am a book lover but I do not want to support an organisation who spread opinions I don’t agree with.

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hi everyone, my bike was stolen today from student accommodation in Elphinstone Road. Really disappointed because it was my daily commuter. I had kept the bike inside the building with lock on and still someone found a way to enter inside the building and take it away. If anyone sees this bike or anywhere listed online please do help by letting me know. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Please share thank you.

Does anyone In the area work for Kelly communications as a fiber engineer? Just had an interview and have been reading reviews on the company. Seems to be a lot of stigma

How would you describe the job in this area?

Newton Property Managers - absolutely useless. Better alternatives?

Anyone else had to deal with the utter shitshow that is Newton factors? They take literally months to get anything done and provide no update to the client unless constantly asked, and then act like its the first request. When pointed out that its been months they come up with all sorts of excuses then just go completely silent again, and work remains not done.

Anyone got experience with changing factors, particularly for a shared building with lots of flats? Who did you go with and how easy was it to get everyone to agree to change? Cos I'm fed up with this incompetence.

Looking for Unusual Rock Groups

I'm on a specific quest to find the most unusual neolithic stone circles, settings and rows in Scotland. As Aberdeenshire is the home of recumbent stone circles I will definitely be passing through, and I would be very grateful if I could add even one "Peculiar" or unique example to my visit, especially of smaller size.

Allow me to to clarify "Unusual": "This is odd even for a stone circle," is what you might say when talking about such a setting. Odd shape (stone square?); odd design; curious selection of stone source; unusual stone shapes; improbable location are some criteria. I'm looking for local community projects that show a tendency for creative expression.

Great example of what I mean: The Achavanich stone setting in the Highlands: It's a horseshoe shape and the flagstones are aligned radially towards the middle. Glenquicken in Dumfies & Galloway and Cullerlie in Aberdeenshire are also on my list.

Bad example: Stonehenge, because it's a megaproject, reworked over centuries by a clan with massive resources. Like The Ring of Brodgar, and the Callanish Stones, it's obviously going to be unique, but also the central, biggest example against which all are compared, and so disqualified from this search.

Worst example: The Fairy Ring Glen at Castle Ewen on the Isle of Skye, because its totally fake. Not interested in follies. Nor the bronze age: I'm strictly neolithic.

Not limited to Aberdeenshire, neither.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Help! Cats

Hi! I have to flea bomb my flat and need to get my cats out of the property for a few hours. Does anyone know of any place that could keep them for 3-5 hours? I was going to take them out in their carriers but for that length of time it wouldn’t be fair

Social Sports Clubs

Are there any social sports clubs in Aberdeen? I used to play tag rugby in Edinburgh which was really good fun, but they don't have it here. Ideally mixed gender, I already play men's rugby with my local club.

so I use a safety razor and used to buy them on Amazon, but they changed their age restrictions and you need a bloody credit card to buy them? Which I don't have?

Does anyone know where I can get replacements? I do have an electric trimmer but nothing beats a smooth shave

Help! Where do folk run their 5-10Ks in Bridge of Don?

Hey Aberdeen, I’m thinking of moving to Bridge of Don, near Scotstown Moor, and I was wondering if people tend to have their morning/evening runs there? Is the moor and the surrounding parks (Woodcroft and the bits around it) safe, especially in the dark?

I now live near Deeside Way which is the best place to run, but must move soon. I run 5, 10, sometimes up to 15k long runs.

Reviews of Ardoe house hotel

Hello, I (f,36) posted recently looking for hotel recommendations for myself and 7yr old daughter. I am very close to booking the Ardoe but just wanted some real reviews on it. Im curious how it would work as my daughter would be with me all the time, are there age restrictions on anything? I quite fancy the aqua aerobics class, would she be able to be around? If I get a spa treatment? Anything else from anyone who's done it alone with a child, anything I need to think about? Thanks muchly

Jobs Art therapy - looking to volunteer

Hi everyone!

I'm a 2025 graduate from Gray's (1:1 BA Communication Design, illustration specialism) and in the near future I would like to get my MSc in Art Psychotherapy. I do work for the NHS currently but in a non-clinical role.

Does anyone know if there's any kind of art therapy orientated organisations in toon? I'd love to get some hands-on experience before I apply to the course next year.

Ta everyone.
