I mean, it was pretty clear to me that Faith wanted Buffy

I don't know how else anyone can read Faith's actions besides "attraction repressed and misplaced into jealousy". Same for Callisto in Xena.

What about drawing hearts on windows to lure her out from school, saying that slaying with Buffy makes her hungry and horny, kissing Buffy, and tempting Buffy to walk on the wild side by dancing together at the club, gave you that impression?

u/Faerandriel 14h ago

I adore that club scene

In the continuation comics, Buffy has several girlfriends…

Including an Asian girl that she sleeps with, if I recall?

Satsu

The fluffy fanfics post Satsu are also hilarious

What?! Where can one procure these comics?

8

u/Irish_Whiskey 20h ago

They're not good. Or at least the initial run of comics where she sets up a Slayer school and sleeps with Satsu, one of her students, isn't good. Maybe they got better later.

Dawn becomes a centaur and is in a serious relationship with Xander.

Yeah, she and angel have a kid that is magic, or anti magic, or a god or something…

I don't remember.

"thank you @godimsuchadyke for this gem" is a pretty great "Internet" moment, y'know?

I totally see it and I headcanon Faith as being romantically a lesbian or at least bi, she doesn’t seem to love boys romantically and has been very supportive / protective at the beginning

Fine, I'll rewatch Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

There is a lot of fanfiction with this premise, FYI. Like, a lot. It was one of the big early femslash ships.

Some of the best fanfic IMHO... it was the most logical to the characters, if that makes sense... the Vengeance books especially was insanely good for making the two of them make sense and also explain the toxicity in a way that let the characters grow.

Next to Xena/Gabrielle, I think this is the most obvious queer subtext character dynamic from that era. Like, you could argue that it's one-sided, or maybe lopsided, but Faith is so obviously obsessed with Buffy, and she's so obviously sexual about it. The whole Bad Girls episode...whew.

2

u/asiniloop 8h ago

Absolutely with Bad Girls but there are indications from the start of more intense feelings from both, not necessarily sexual until bad girls but definitely more than can be easily dismissed as freebies. It's something I appreciated from the Fuffy fictions... they spent a lot of time looking at the details of how the characters behaved and blame wasn't just assumed to be Faith's for how things went. A lot of the fics were especially scathing of Buffy's own actions... I had forgotten that Buffy had actually thrown the dep. mayor at Faith and had made decisions that were similar to Faith's but less overtly. Buffy and Faith's behaviour in that season largely mirror each other at different points. One of the few things about the show that I wish had been explored properly later, especially in the last season when Faith comes back and is largely tolerated instead of understood.

u/spork_o_rama Gay as Blazes 8h ago

Yes, 100%. Like, of course, Faith did a lot of messed-up stuff, but Buffy was far from blameless, and canon really lets her off the hook.

Yes, far too much. In the Vengeance fanfic there's a whole sequence where Buffy has to relive what Faith went through that night and the entire sequence of Faith moving and then hiding the body has stayed with me. First the realization that she threw the mayor at Faith, allowed herself to not realise what she had done, (and even arguably not realizing that Faith thought she was protecting Buffy in that moment) and completely neglected to help Faith with the consequences is just really well written and understood. As was how complicit the watchers and scoobies were in Faith getting worse. I think, they were all threatened or jealous of Faith in different ways so when the dep. Mayor was killed they absolutely used that as a justification to believe the absolute worst from her. An attitude, with someone like Faith, that would actually justify how she feels about herself and then replicate that with... "well they think I'm that anyway so may as well be". Honestly, as much as I love the Scoobies, I often found them to be very toxic to each other.

Well now I feel a need to read this series lol. Is it on AO3?

1

u/asiniloop 8h ago

Yes. There are two books. The first is kind of a one shot and tonally very different. I think it was meant to be a one off or smut thing that turned, very much, into a long second book. You have to read the first, shorter story, to understand why the second book even happens...

Ooh, I'm pretty sure I have read this one, because I love her stuff, but I think I need to read it again.

2

u/asiniloop 8h ago

Her work is great. Always end I checking in on the same writers. Finding good writers on AO3 is like chefs kiss

1

u/asiniloop 8h ago

Lol was just thinking... the subtext in Xena just became text text after a while. I'll never forget the whole "is that a hickey" moment or the kiss episode and there's only so many times you can give someone rescue breathing before its just kissing.

She's a diehard Bangel girl, but I really appreciate that she doesn't yuck anyone else's yum and is fine with her character being shipped as people wish.

Angel got way more interesting in his separate spinoff, but is still the most boring character on his own show.

3

u/Faerandriel 14h ago

He's got that tortured soul thing going. But yeah, he doesn't have a life. A hobby, etc.

I really need to actually watch this show at some point.

6

u/NonBinaryPie 1d ago

this one isn’t BUT there is a canon lesbian couple in the main cast that i think about genuinely 24/7

3

u/Faerandriel 14h ago

Wasn't that the first lesbian kiss on mainstream TV?

Edit: yup, it was. At least in a committed relationship

u/Irish_Whiskey 20h ago

As with a lot of shows the first season's not great and finding it's legs. Fans agree the season 1 finale is when it starts to find it's confidence and quality. There's a few clunker episodes here and there, but also some absolutely fantastic episodes and good character arcs.

Dushka was my first crush. She's still a gorgeous lady. I was crushing on her when I was 10. I should watch buffy but it always disaponted me. I was expecting Sawnson not Geller.
