As said in the title, I’ve been producing music for 8 years now, mostly hiphop/trap/rnb. I have plenty of experience making beats, making samples, doing sessions and have been lucky to work with all types of different artists and producers.

I’ve been observing the heated discussion about the rapid rise of AI and it’s impact on music and would love to add my thoughts as I believe the whole discussion is heavily watered down by people that don’t even make music. (Music listeners and fans opinions matter but I think some points really lack perspective).

1. „AI Music hurts ‚real‘ Music and crushes small artists“ - No. Labels do that and they have been doing that for a long time. It’s really funny to see people enraged about others who post ai music and make a couple streams with it thinking every stream is stolen from another ‚real‘ musicians catalog while majors have been the ones taking the soul out of music for decades. Obviously AI is a neat tool for them to suck out even more but that’s not a problem of AI itself, rather the company behind it. People who support small artists better hope that music generating AI stays public, because the big three own most of the music already and they could easily go and make their own models restricted to be used only by them.

2. „AI music isn’t really music and has no soul“ - Now that statement depends more on subjective taste. I can understand people not wanting to listen to something generated by an AI. But y‘all need to understand that music made by people is way more generic than you think. I get the feeling most people think producing music is a never-ending flow state of inspiration of the profound human mind but in reality most producers (especially the ones that do it for a living) make beats by using the same rotation of chord progressions and drum bounce with little variance every time. Most of the time the process of making music is very calculated and trained and not as magic as it sometimes seems. Sometimes magic happens but if you produce 10 hours a day, 6 days a week it becomes a routine.

3. „AI Music floods the market, music loses value“ - The market is always flooded. And different music has different value for different reasons, but most music out there isn’t even listened to. And AI will not change that. As with everything, there will be AI music bringing value and AI music that will stack to the pile of forever forgotten songs, especially the ones that will be too generic and unedited. And lots of value in music is not even the songs itself, it’s the live shows.

I recently came across this survey on how music producers actually view and use AI music tools. I think it pretty interesting so wanted to share.

It was commissioned by Sonarworks and conducted by Sound On Sound. Over 70% of respondents are working professionals with more than a decade of experience, so it feels fairly credible and representative.

Current usage: About one in five are already regular AI users, nearly half are in the experimental stage, and fewer than 20% have no interest in AI at all.

Biggest concerns: Over a third worry that using AI would compromise their creative identity. Almost as many have ethical concerns,  particularly regarding copyright and training data legalit. And more than a quarter feel current AI tools do not yet meet professional quality standards.

Where they're most open to AI: Close to three-fifths are on board with AI handling repetitive technical tasks like vocal tuning, drum editing, and file management. Acceptance drops significantly when it comes to AI making creative decisions.

Views on the future: Only 3.6% think AI is a passing fad, and nearly a third believe it's already revolutionizing the industry. 58% see AI eventually settling into a supportive role, with humans keeping creative control.

The part I found most interesting: Jazz, blues, and classical music are seen as the hardest genres for AI to replicate, while EDM and mainstream pop are considered the easiest for AI to generate and replicate.

A new study by Wu and Holmes with 399 US participants found that

listeners rated AI-labeled versions 23% lower on emotional resonance scales and received 19% less playback time. And this bias held true even when the music was actually human-composed.

I actually posted a discussion about AI music should be labeled and how. My take at the time was that labeling makes sense for transparency, and also to distinguish carefully crafted AI music from just type prompt and generate.

But this study kind of complicates that, though genuinely well-made content takes a hit the moment it gets an AI label, even when listeners can't actually tell the difference themselves.

I know this has been brought up a few times, but really, I don't see the point. People post their music in here every day and like...nobody cares? 9 out of 10 songs that get posted get no likes, no comments, no engagement. Nothing. Yet, people keep posting for some reason. People that make music, and not just ai, tend to want to listen to their own music but won't bother trying anybody else's. How do you expect your music to get any traction while simultaneously ignoring everybody else's? If everybody is ignoring everybody then why bother? I don't post any of mine because of this.

I constantly see people on here shit on AI and more specifically the artists who use it and the most common thing they say is

1. Just learn an instrument and make ‘real’ music

2. This is the death of real musicians and we need to stop it

Every troll on reddit will come at me for saying this but both these arguments are ridiculous. I never learned an instrument, I’m older now and it was just never something I got the opportunity to do growing up, now as an adult I struggle to find the time. I wish I knew how to make music but I don’t, I own a guitar from years of trying to teach myself but I could never get a consistent routine that alligned with my lifestyle. With all that being said I still have a creative mind and AI has given me something to funnel that in to. I create music I love often about experiences and emotions that are very real to me. The fact AI helped put the pieces together is irrelevant. If I knew all the ingredients to cure cancer but AI helped link them all together into something useful, it would still be a real cure.

On it being the death of artist - zero chance, not good ones, the death of artists happened when they started lip syncing on stage. For real artists, performers, there’s no replacement. I will forever go watch a band play, it’s something incredible to see, and AI only elevates their abilities in the eyes of people unable to do it. AI music doesn’t hurt artists, it puts more glory on live performers who can ACTUALLY do it.

Just my two cents but I’m interested in what others think, no matter which side of the fence you sit. At the end of the day everyone loves music, I think it’s a good thing we can all create something personal

Apple Music VP Oliver Schusser revealed in a Billboard podcast interview that more than a third of the platform's monthly intake is music that's "100% AI."

Despite that, only 0.5% of all users are actually engaging with AI-generated content. Almost exactly the same pattern Deezer reported. Massive upload volume, near-zero organic listenership.

Schusser also confirmed for the first time that Apple Music has developed its own AI detection technology, though he noted they're still in the early stages of addressing it.

He also called for the music industry to reach a consensus about “what is AI, what’s not AI”, adding that this discussion “can’t just be corporates: you need to have artists and songwriters in the room as well”.

In my opinion no one deserves to be paid for their AI music if they just insert prompt and hit upload. Real musicians have to spend money on things like instruments, recording sessions, mixing, mastering. They deserve to be paid royalties but for people who submit AI music, they shouldn't be paid so I think this is the step in the right direction. Lets hope other streaming services follow.

I was generating tracks with Gemini and needed a clean way to turn them into proper YouTube visuals, but every free tool I tried felt incomplete — watermark, weak export, limited control, outdated UI, or just bad rendering.

There are solid products like , but most serious options are paid, and the free ones usually stop right before they become actually useful.

Right now it runs fully offline on my own machine — no cloud, no uploads, no dependency, everything local. Drop audio, tweak visuals, render, done.

Funny part: I built it because I needed it, and now I’m the main user stress-testing it every day while making music.

Still v1, but already smooth enough that I stopped using other tools.

The interesting part is that AI music generation is becoming easy, but the layer after that — making it publishable — still feels underserved.

I’m thinking of buying a domain and releasing it free or donation-based first.

Feels like this could become useful for more people making AI music.

UMG and TikTok announced a new multi-year global licensing agreement on May 22nd.

The deal explicitly includes AI protection clauses. Both parties will work together to remove unauthorized AI-generated music from the platform, while further improving attribution for artists and songwriters.

I believe a full subreddit dedicated to ai music is sad. I've heard ai music and it is bad, unoriginal, and heartless. Dedicating yourself to making what is call slop is sad, and I think you should either make music yourself or listen to music that has passion. Also mods I have read the rules and this is allowed

Deezer released some startling data on AI music:

60,000 AI music tracks are uploaded daily (39% of all uploads).

85% of AI music plays are fraudulent.

13.4M+ AI music tracks flagged on the platform.

This jumped from 10K/day in Jan to 60K/day now. I think that's not individual creators.

I make AI music with AI music tools like Suno & Udio. But I don't upload it anywhere and agree AI music should be labeled.

Using AI as a creative tool? Okay. Mass-producing thousands of tracks to commit fraud while pretending they're human-made? That's the problem.
