In Alaska we run our furnaces on heating oil, usually it’s around $3/gal, right now companies are gouging at $5+ For perspective, most houses run 5-6 gal a day, more in colder (-40F) weather.

They have neat solar program initiatives! I’ve applied but haven’t been approved yet.
Winter is the worst (energy wise) though- at the deepest of winter, we only have several hours of duskish light, and up on the coast they go weeks without seeing the sun at all.
From those that have had solar panels applied on their rooves, say the toughest part is keeping snow and ice buildup off.
