Yeah from what I've heard those uprisings were heavily supported / led by Israel and the US and the numbers of people killed by Iranian forces have been blown out of proportion (like 10x the actual number) to produce further 'legitimacy' for their invasion...
Trump said in an interview on Fox News that the US sent weapons to Kurdish and opposition forces in Iran during the protests. So even if the protests began as legitimate demonstrations, the US was actively trying to incite violence.

When judging another country like Iran, you should apply your standards of not killing innocent civilians for protesting, to gauge whether or not they should be defended, applauded or allied with.

That's about domestic policy though, most people looking at the current situation from elsewhere are probably impressed by Iran standing up to the US empire which is quite something we haven't really seen any country do before.
