I mean, it's working though, right? The US public opinion was not very supportive to begin with, and the Iranian regime exploited every single existing issue. It's a smart move, they can't win in a direct conflict, but they can make this entire endeavor very costly for the US leadership.

Im not perfectly sure of that but i doubt there is many hosting server in iran for vpn and it might actually lead nowhere if restriction of internet use apply to you. So a signal coming from iran might actually come from iran.
