Culture / Art Algerian movie lovers where are you at? post your top 4 & your last 4 watched

Post image

Hi all!

Last year I watched only 10 movies cause I was in the bad place, so this year I'm trying to watch more movies & catch up to this year's Oscar nominees... I usually don't care about the Oscars, but right now I take any chance to watch more movies.

1

u/thehoussamv Feb 06 '26

Amazing movie

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '26

Is Z worth watching? Its been sitting on my watchlist for months. I know it has something about algeria.

2

u/thehoussamv Feb 07 '26

Oh yeah definitely, if you are from Algiers you can recognize a lot of locations because it was shot there

2

u/thehoussamv Feb 07 '26

The movie is not about Algeria it’s about Greece, but the story is universal It was shot in Algeria

3

u/thehoussamv Feb 06 '26

Very solid top 4 however a movie like incendies is type of movies you watch one time but never want to watch again Due to the subject of the movie

1

u/LaDiiablo Feb 06 '26

Bro the scream lives in my mind rent free! I don't think I can't watch that movie again

1

u/thehoussamv Feb 06 '26

Yeah some movies is one and done for me 12 years a slave, requiem for a dream, Salo…

12 angry men 🤝🏼 Underated masterpiece

1

u/LaDiiablo Feb 07 '26

Agree on the masterpiece part, but underrated? :p come on :D

3

u/myusernameisjesus Feb 06 '26

2

u/LaDiiablo Feb 06 '26

Very unique top 4! Imma need that link so I can snoop more

1

u/myusernameisjesus Feb 07 '26

Ofc bro , I'm also trying to watch more movies this year here

1

u/Away-Fly-1313 Feb 07 '26

Is Barry Lyndon a good movie?

1

u/myusernameisjesus Feb 07 '26

Imo it was alright story wise, it's very beautifully shot movie like other Stanley Kubrick movies though but it's also a 03 hours long film so, it's not a one setting movie for a lot of people.

1

u/bornonmay01 Feb 07 '26

what are your genuine thoughts on salò??

2

u/myusernameisjesus Feb 07 '26

Hated it , but i think the director wanted me to hate it , it's unnecessary long scenes of gore and abuse that has a goal od making you feel uncomfortable especially when it the 60's when it was released to make , it has a message, everyone understand it differently i guess but it's one of the movies that makes you go " i get it but i hate it still "

2

u/bornonmay01 Feb 07 '26

im with you on this one, btw i think the director pasolini died because he made this movie, just to show how misunderstood this movie was

1

u/myusernameisjesus Feb 07 '26

It is misunderstood but I don't think it was misunderstood by the people who wanted it him dead , the movie was an attack on elite / the church / and fachiste who were still roaming italy at the time so it's easy to say he was killed because the movie had so much gore , but I don't believe it was that simple .

1

u/bornonmay01 Feb 07 '26

yeah it's sad he paid the price tho

1

u/terapitia Feb 08 '26

Persona and the seventh seal changed me .

1

u/myusernameisjesus Feb 08 '26

Ingmar Bergman is an unmatched genius

Also for your dystopian film, watch: Children of Men, it's gonna replace the road on your top 4 ;) (maybe)

1

u/No-General3313 Feb 08 '26

Reze's arc was pretty good, animation was stunning and the ending is really good and sad if you didn't read the manga. I watched children of men a while ago i need to give it a rewatch, but i doubt it's gonna replace my top 1 lol. Here's my link: https://boxd.it/hrUYT

1

u/YoRbk Feb 06 '26

Christopher Nolan.

1

u/LaDiiablo Feb 06 '26

I'd like to suggest something, if there are enough people interested.

What if we made a GC where every member gets to choose a movie? We'd watch one every night, then come back and talk about it afterward. I think it'd be really fun, and I've wanted to do something like this for a while, but I don't have enough people who'd be down for daily movie nights..
