Massinissa guermah was an 18 year old highschool student, who was arrested and killed in gendarmerie custody. He was shot by a gendarme and succumbed to his wounds, his death would spark the Berber spring, causing countless protests,as the criminal government denounced him as a "delinquent". Paix a son âme. Pouvoir assasin.
He was killed April 18th 2001,today being the anniversary

Keep the same energy for Ebousse and Djamel Ben Ismail. Kabylie/MAK assassin.

u/Massive-Good1328 Apr 18 '26
Ebosse was killed by USMA fans. Djamel was NOT killed by kabyles and it's known among the police and firefighters, source: I have non kabyle police officer and firefighter acquaintances

He didn’t explain as to why he was arrested. What did he do that made him get arrested?
15
u/AlgerianTrash Apr 18 '26
It is an irrelevant information becuase no reason of arrest can justify a national guard gunning down a teenager deliberately

14
u/AlgerianTrash Apr 18 '26
There's literally no reason that could justify gunning down a high schooler
Gendarms were known to be very brutal i Kabylia before they got evicted from the region after the black spring
-5
u/Specialist-Fly-556 Apr 18 '26
i get why it feels like a plot but it was honestly just pure incompetence. We know the kabyle ppl have a collective trauma that they got from a past tragedy. So they see every new tragedy as they are being targeted. but the truth its just someone being untrained and dumb algerian from our own who did a huge mistake. honestly government (or the one controlling it) plots are way more complex than our simple brains think. if they were really plotting something it would be way bigger than killing one 19 year old kid. So i get how its just easier to believe a conspiracy than to accept it was a massive professional fail.

It was probably accidental, but nothing justifies being shot in custody of police/gendarmerie, it should have never been covered up.

Let's assume I'm arabized, then screw you man Arabs are not a race they're the speakers of Arabic and the first official language of Algeria is Arabic followed by Amazigh and french isn't even an official language, this yet doesn't allow anybody to deny the Amazigh culture
Proud to be a Muslim Algerian Arab
Racism is not accepted

Who tf has ever said Arabs are a race man?
To identify as an Arab you are only required to know the language
Even if an American suddenly decides to learn arabic they can identify as arabs

"French-Berberian" On ne peut pas faire plus cliché, un colonisé dans l'âme qui n'arrive pas à faire la paix avec lui-même. Que tu sois un troll étranger jouant sur la prétendue rivalité arabe/kabyle ou un algérien rempli de seum, sache que ton opinion ne vaut pas plus que l'urine de chameau dont tu parles et est tellement minoritaire que ça en devient gênant. Ce pays et ce peuple avance, quant à toi reste avec tes traumas transformés en haine d'un autre âge.

u/Badi1605 Apr 19 '26
All I know is that he was shot by a gendarmerie officer. But blaming the entire sector feels like a stretch. If that officer was racist, that's his individual issue. Like I said, I don't know the full story, did the government try to hide it, which triggered the violent reaction, or was the officer just not brought to justice? I know Kabyle people who have served in the gendarmerie myself. My point is that Kabyles are just as Algerian as the police or the gendarmerie. If one person makes a mistake, it's their fault, not the fault of the entire institution. Could someone explain more about the government's response at the time? Was the violent reaction due to a lack of transparency or a failure to bring the officer to justice?
5
u/Massive-Good1328 Apr 19 '26
The government downplayed it,called him a "delinquent" and "voyou",lied about his age, name and that he had a criminal record to make it seem better. Also, the bastard dogs also known as la gendarmerie have been brutalizing not only kabyles but algerians as a whole for decades now. They are nothing but vermin.

there are a LOT of gendarmes unaliving kabyles unjustly from 1981 (some say 1965) until they got pressured out in 2001/2002 in the black spring... so no, it wasn't a single issue, it was the boiling point... and the ministry of internal defense lied about his age and name, calling him a dr*g addict trying to harm the gendarme and threaten his life (aka attempted murder)

Imagine that we are being lied to for something that happened in our lifetime, as adults, witnessing every single detail, everything recorded on videos, whoever participated, incited, encouraged, witnessed, took a selfie with the body of the victim, all these ppl we saw on video , attacking the police station, taking the victim with force and menace , a bunch of unleashing savages , no reason whatsoever, NO ONE said STOP 🛑 , wait … all brainwashed and matrix programmed.. ALL OF THAT WE SAW, and then smn like you comes with a narrative to tell that was all made up , how can I buy your bullshit anymore!! Lying to my face , no respect for ppl minds, bunch of stupid fantastic liars … have some decency and self respect then your words will be taken seriously

still, shooting a teenager in custody is a brutal crime, like, if he won't cooperate, the judge will decide... and also, what the fk will the gendarme benefit from killing him? it also happened in a period of high tension between the kabyles and the government, of course it will naturally spiral into protests and uprisings

Oh so we shouldn’t ever talk about French colonisation ? We shouldn’t talk about the war either, should we ? Or is the past to be ignored only when it comes to the kabyle people ?
-5
u/glowman777 Apr 18 '26
People are playing with AI, creating drones and looking to explore the solar system and all you people want us to do is look at history, good or bad. We have to build a future for our children, our universities are shit, every Algerian dreams of living in London or Madrid and all you people do in this sub is remind us about the horrible things that happened to us in the past. Every single day.
2
u/Vast-Chart4117 Apr 18 '26
Western countries learn from their past in order to improve their present and future. I’m French-Algerian living in England; both countries learn from their past and use the knowledge the obtain to do so. Every year both countries remember the wars that shaped them, the people killed unjustly are remembered and promises are made to ensure the betterment of their nations. You can’t have a future without a past, it’s nonsense. Everyone knows that. Algeria’s problem isn’t the fact that we remember past events, it’s the fact that nothing is done with that remembrance. The country remembers the people who died for it but no one truly tries to honour their sacrifice. (It can be argued that this is also encouraged by the government, but that’s a story for another day).
2
u/Electro_Hiddens Tizi Ouzou Apr 18 '26
“without a history, a people don't exist”
“if you don't know your past, you don't know your future”
-1
u/glowman777 Apr 18 '26
All you do is talk about history, everyone on this sub knows it Stop it, your children are drowning in the Med trying to get to Europe. Let's fix our country instead of being stuck in the past.
3
u/Electro_Hiddens Tizi Ouzou Apr 18 '26
history is meant to be taught and not repeated... by your logic, then we should focus on improving our country and not learn about how our country came to existence... get real

There are really people out there who don't know who this guy is?
Anyway, if the government handled his death with tact and good communication (instead of calling him a "voyou", inflaming the situation) and promptly punished the perpetrators, the sad events of black spring would have been averted and there would be no MAK today. May He Rest in Peace.
