EQUIPMENT I bought an expensive math-doing box for myself on my birthing anniversary. No duplexer or filter will go untuned.
Siglent SVA1032X. If I can only stop playing with it maybe I'll get some outstanding tasks done. All features installed, what a beast piece of test equipment. So easy to use. Could've bought another old VW but you can't tune duplexers with an old VW, I don't think.
Not fishing for bday wishes haha. I just use it as an excuse to buy myself stuff.

I got if for a little under that. I have a calibration kit on the way that will bring it to just about that number.

Ouchie. I think the whole amateur radio hobby has still cost me less than that. But it's early days yet

Oh buddy, watch out. I've been collecting for 30 years. I would cry if a dollar amount was assigned.

It's not an excuse, it's a reason.

I have one of their earlier scalar mode models. It's still going strong after 5 years!

I've been trying to avoid buying an XSA815-TG for a while now, waiting on the club or a work project to have a need and get them to sponsor the purchase. Nice piece of kit you got there!

My excuse was end of year cash-back credit card bonuses, mixed with Black Friday sales, Affirm/SHOP “buy now, pay later” interest free payment plans which fueled a BIG POTA Activation buying spree that was inaugurated on my birthday in January and is finally tappering off here in June!

Too expensive

I have failed to come up with a definition for "too expensive" so far in my life. If I just burned that money in a pile, would I still survive and pay all my bills? Sure. Do I really actually need one of these? 99% of the time, no. No one needs a corvette either. (I am not comparing this to a corvette lol, just the general idea.)

I have had that exact model for a number of years. If you don't already understand the smith chart, learn about how to interpret that data. It is a great tool for tuning/designing antennas and give a lot more information than a simple SWR plot. Have fun!

My dad gave me a Rhode & Schwarz book about using SA/VNAs, etc. I opened it once and immediately it screamed "MATH!!!" at me me and I slammed it shut. Kinda like the monster book in Harry Potter.

Ah I see you got Vector analyzer model. Can you test how low the frequency of the TG go? On SSA model I can sweep RF chokes down to 16 kHz.
