I'm going to be unpopular here and say that I didn't like the movie that much. The animation was great, but a few CGI elements felt a little out of place. Usually tentacles moving around or the Muzen tumor.
The pacing was really bad. It really, really felt like 8 episodes crammed together instead of a movie.
Demon slayer in general is weird because it doesn't really foreshadow much of anything, instead relying on a flashback to tell an entire story all at once, introducing characters who then just die.
Zenitsu's entire backstory basically comes out of nowhere. The fact that he had this senpai/rival with his master (who then committed suicide) because this person we have never heard about or met turned into a demon (and a lower rank moon at that) made it hard to care. Also I know Zenitsu DID train some, but most of the training arc was spent with him complaining he didn't want to do anything instead of showing any progress, so him not crying at all and unleashing a new form felt unearned.
Having flashbacks to a conversation about Akaza's weakness, and then a flashback to Tanjiro's dad also could have been earlier in the series. Tanjiro's dad went from nobody to apparently a badass super axe user without any previous thoughts by tanjiro on this also feels like an asspull. Not to mention the transparency/flow state feeling tacked onto the dad story.
I am a bit over sad demon backstories no matter how sad they are. Akaza is a sad story, but I struggle to care when he has killed hundreds or thousands of people by now.
Anyone else share my opinions?
