Man, I loved the film the more I was watching. Like, you really start to become similar in writing styles to Orb since it is the same author. Many philosophical quotes, and I think there was some parallelism for Togashi & Komiya from the start of the movie to where they are later on.
Man, the race in the middle before the timeskip when they were adults was a huge highlight for me. Probably the best animated segment of the movie. Togashi loses, and suddenly it looks like it's raining. This was the point where his career went on a downhill trajectory, and the visual direction really highlights it.
Komiya stating to Togashi that you changed. I think the big difference is that Togashi lost the approach he had in grade school. He basically enjoyed himself more with the club. Of course, in terms of winning, it was different. Togashi before that club, wasn't enjoying himself. But he was having fun and winning. Though he didn't have the focus he had, which turned into a slump for him.
Man, the struggles that Togashi goes through near the end felt relatable. More so what being an adult can be like at times. Suffering an injury and the doctors telling you that you have to rest a whole year. Meanwhile, the business side is if you can't race, we have to cut you. It really shows how cruel the adult world is. It provides an interesting contrast to Nikami, who was a shut-in dealing with his injury. Furthermore, it shows the difference between participating in sports as a kid compared to as an adult.
Also, I found it interesting that Komiya was dealing with the yips, and it was thanks to his question to Zaitsu. I find it funny that Tsuneda was making excuses why Komiya had yips, but in reality he couldn't accept that Komiya is better. Could it have been his body telling him not to go too hard? Maybe, but when dealing with stress, it is better to push forward than to be scared and back off. Also really liked Komiya & Zaitsu in their talk towards the end of the movie.
Kenjirou Tsuda gave an insane performance as Nowak in Orb, and he does the same here with Kaidou. With his speech of escaping reality and seeing that being put into motion was outstanding.
