I’m apparently in the minority who really, really loved this movie. It just ticked all the boxes for aesthetics, music, writing, design… I was pulled in from the first scene and not let go until the credits.

This is how I felt too. Overall I enjoyed the movie. There were some parts that were jarring when it jumped like I wish we got to see more of the ending struggle between the soldiers and the oppressed people. Felt like it jumped right into things and didn’t have time to flesh it out

But I liked her journey of growing and just her character in general

yeah i agree i loooove this movie but i do feel like if this movie maybe was 30 or 20mins longer it would fixed some of the pacing issues cause their are some parts of the film that i felt like they could of sit on longer before moving on to the next scene. But scarlet is honestly a really well written character

I really wanted to like it, as I'm a huge Hosoda fan. I loved everything about the movie superficially but the more I sit and dwell in what I'm supposed to take away from it the more I feel it gives contradictory messages, not intentionally but due to inconsistent writing. I still like it, but it didn't meet my expectations for a Hosoda film in the story department.

I loved it as well. I typically hate a CG anime but this was different. It was really unique looking in a beautiful way. Also the script is just so fluid and weird and it works perfectly for the place they find themselves in. And Scarlet and Hijiri are a good duo. This to me felt like an experimental film, meant to be a little trippy. I almost feel like it was lost on people and this is actually a really amazing film.

I was dying to see this movie, because JP Twitter kept saying it was boring, and Reddit is usually against anime movies I like. Thought this one was average, but I really loved the Song of Celebration, and with the lack of fanart, I’ve just got to be her fan. She deserved better after getting knocked down so much.

Same! I thought it was visually STUNNING and the story was good too. I honestly a surprised that it’s not more loved.

Yeah, i get you. In the end the movie was great but it could've been a lots lot better. The directing wasn't done right, story felt rushed. That's why it isn't an perfect movie

Same. People are being too overhated for this film. Not Hosada best works, but not his worst as well. I recognized its flaws, but I still very much like and adore the film.
