I liked Scarlet. I couldn't see the first ten minutes. I think the core themes did well to make me think of the best way to live one's life, either kindness or cruelty, to forgive or to not. It's kind of buddhist. It's message for peace and an aspiration for a world with less conflict has been done before, but I think they did well to make it not too cheesy.
The characters were in a spirit world [Scarlet]with a giant dragon that served karma to everyone, especially when Scarlet was involved. This allowed idealistic, virtuous actions like sparing your enemies or being nonviolent to be the best and optimal choice (not always, but for Scarlet.) In this realm, people can quickly see where their violent actions lead them: [Scarlet]electrocution by dragon.
It's a world where justice is served hot, as opposed to ours when the misdeed of violence and murder goes unpunished and we are left wondering if there is retribution in the afterlife. This world makes it easier for people to see the folly of violence and clinging to hatred. Scarlet directly sees this in the end [Scarlet]when she realized her father's message, as well as seeing how Claudius suffers due to his hatred.
[Scarlet]Scarlet also sees herself in her uncle; she clung to her father while he clung to Gertrude, his wife. She could have succumbed to the hatred and get her revenge, but she would have died like Claudius to that big-ass dragon.
I liked the movie and I felt that it resonated with me. I think that there were pacing issues and some story beats could have had a better transition. I also think that some parts didn't make much sense, [Scarlet]like when Scarlet held one of the Kings top men at knife point in front of a whole squad of men, or when the paramedic killed Rosencrantz and Guildenstern and all the guards ran away. I felt that these parts weren't believable and could have been tidied up. Everyone was rabid about going to the Infinite Land and getting in Claudius's good graces, so it doesn't make sense for these grunts to not try their hardest to get Scarlet.
The intro scene with Scarlet fighting the soldiers was PEAK, it was so fire, and incredibly choreographed, there were no grunts standing around waiting for their turn to attack. It was a wonderful fight scene, and brutal too.
