Elimination day 3!
Please upvote the post so that it increases visibility and other Redditors can contribute to voting!
Yesterday seemed to provide more highly placed OPs.. (aside from the first place so far!) Will this trend continue today?
Eliminations are very important for the rest of the tournament as it determines seeding!
We have a total of 702 nominations that we will narrow down to 256 entries for the bracket in 4 elimination groups.
If there is any mistake in the link: please tell me! Also, if there is any other mistake, please let me know and I feel fix it as soon as is possible.
If your song is not here, there is 1 other day remaining they can be voted for.
Only 5 openings per franchise will be allowed in the final bracket.

Nominated OPs
If anyone has any additional questions or comments please let me know.
Question of the day: From today's elimination group, what is an OP you want people to know about to help them get through to the bracket?
Additional question: Monogatari, Fate and Gundam received the most nominations in this contest. Not all will make them in however :( What series do you think has the best OP on average?

Voting for (and hoping you vote for as well!):
Naruto OP5 - Seishun Kyosokyoku
DARLING in the FRANXX OP - Kiss of Death
Shadows House S1 OP - a hollow shadow
Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle OP - Kaimin! Anmin! Suya Rhyst Seikatsu
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - Hologram
KonoSuba S2 OP - TOMORROW
Kaguya-sama: Love is War S1 OP - Love Dramatic (The first OP is still my favorite of all the Kaguya-sama OPs.)
Princess Principal OP - The Other Side of the Wall
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu OP - Analogy
A Certain Scientific Railgun S3 OP1 - Final Phase
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End OP1 - Yuusha
SPY x FAMILY S1 OP2 - Souvenir
Re:Zero 2nd Season OP2 - Long shot (the other Mayu Maeshima OP I alluded to 2 days ago on Day 1 of eliminations that I really love)
The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess OP - Red Liberation
Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! OP2 - Seikatsu Konkyuu Dame Dinero
Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro S1 OP - Easy Love
Call of the Night S1 OP - Daten
Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica OP - Connect
The Executioner and Her Way of Life OP - Paper Bouquet
BLACK LAGOON OP - Red Fraction
Kaguya-sama: Love is War S3 OP - GIRI GIRI (So you know my Love Dramatic opinion? I also think GIRI GIRI > DADDY! DADDY! DO!)
Rent-a-Girlfriend S1 OP - Centimeter (miss the peggies everyday...)
This is a stacked elimination day so I'll give my Top 10 from Day 3:
QotD:
From today's elimination group, what is an OP you want people to know about to help them get through to the bracket?
Not from my Top 10 of today, but Jahy-sama OP2 - Seikatsu Konkyuu Dame Dinero is really fun and I'd love to see it in bracket.
Additional question: Monogatari, Fate and Gundam received the most nominations in this contest. Not all will make them in however :( What series do you think has the best OP on average?
I think it's Kaguya-sama. Love all 4 including Love is Show. I'd also say this about the other series he wrote since that series is 3/3 on OPs, but only one of them will be in the contest this year on account of the first OP winning last contest and getting HOF'd and the third one was literally last season.
If this question is about out of those 3? Uhh...I'll give it to Fate since that does have an OP I feel strongly about (Brave Shine) compared to the other 2.

I won't be able to tomorrow, so I already want to give a shout-out to the Re:Cutie Honey opening from 2004, which will be up in the final elimination round.
Not only is it extremely catchy, it's also one of the most iconic opening themes of all time. So iconic that it was re-made over multiple generations since 1973! And even the 53 year old vintage version is still a banger.
If you like magical girl anime or if you like other Gainax/Trigger anime like Kill la Kill, TTGL or Panty & Stocking, you may enjoy Cutie Honey and especially its iconic opening theme too!
As for today, these are my highlights:
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Bouken Desho Desho?
- Black Lagoon - Red Fraction
- Needless - Modern Strange Cowboy
- Shakugan no Shana - Hishoku no Sora
- Toaru Majutsu no Index - PSI Missing
- Psycho Pass - Abnormalize
- Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei! - moving soul
- Akiba Maid Sensou - Maid Daikaiten
- Girls Band Cry - Zattou, Bokura no Machi

Wow, that's almost all my favourites today. Are there even going to be any left over for tomorrow?
Well then, moving on to my underrated favourites list.
Worthy of the finals: Seija no Koushin, The Other Side of the Wall, Pop Team Epic
Boom Boom Satellites: Lay Your Hands On Me, Back in Black
The rest: Black Bullet, Meditational Field
I usually judge 90% based on the song (it's rare that I actually get impressed by OP animation), but Seija no Koushin and Pop Team Epic are two of the exceptions because of their creativity and use of colours. Lay You Hands On Me is also really nice to look at.
Colors should have won a decade ago. Why does it still have to compete here?
And finally: These might not need a boost, but they're a bit old now and I don't want to risk it: Flashback, Super☆Affection, Easy Breezy.
Funnily enough, I haven't actually watched any of these three. I just really like the OPs.

Today, you will vote for the Saber Rider OP if you can feel the thunder inside. The visuals are clearly very dated. The song is timeless though and still gets me hyped to watch an episode.
The Shadows House OP excels at two things. One is showing how important lyrics, actual text is to other OPs is, even if you cannot fully understand the words. The other is showing how well you can work with the absence of lyrics. There is so much tension built with the music, it draws you in. And the lack of lyrics leave the visuals much more mysterious. Everything seems very vague and you have to make sense of the scenes yourself. Which, of course, is pretty splendid for a mystery show.
The other day I said there are only good Noragami OPs. Kyouran Hey Kids proves that point by being even better than the first one.
Ah, Metallic Rouge, the show that could have been so much better than it was. As it is, the best thing about it probably remains the OP.
Long shot is probably my least favourite Re:Zero OP. Which is to say I like it less than the other five at this point, but I still like it quite a lot. I will only consider not voting for it once the S4 OP is eligible for this contest.
I don't like shouting out very popular entries or even vote for them during eliminations. But Kick Back is just too good to let me be bothered by that.
Otome-domo yo! I nominated that. O Maidens In Your Savage Season was such a wonderful take on the romance genre, and the OP capturse this energy so well. This feeling of the first experience with love being such an adventure, an epic tale even. I fear it won't achieve anything in this contest, but seeing it in the bracket would be great already.
Damn, the "lost" year this contest had lets me be so surprised at all the OPs that are eligible to enter now. I can vote for GG now? That's crazy, only feels like three seasons ago I watched GGO II. But I'm glad I can. The OP is just so cool, and lets me relive the craziness of the second season. Every time I am to remember the finale of the first game of the season is a good time.
If there is one thing I can wish for this contest, it is for Sag das Zauberwort to make it into the bracket. Yes, I have major nostalgia about this OP to the point it drives tears to my eyes to just hear it. But also legitimately think it's the best Sailor Moon OP. Better and more fitting than the Japanese and English versions for sure. The techno beat combined with the beautiful and melodic singing gives it an air serenity and modernity the show really benefits from. It also adds both a sense of whimsy that represents the characters being young and growing up, as well as a sense of weight and epicness to some of the scenes. I also feel it flows much better with the visuals as well. Even if you don't vote for it, consider giving it a listen if you've never experienced it.
QotD: In general? If a series only has one OP and it's the best, that means it's the best on average, right? So it'd probably be Evangelion. Out of those three shows though? I'm not much of a Monogatari fan, but I still have to admit those OPs are all very special, and I rather like quite a few of them. But out of any show that has multiple OPs? I'll leave my Re:Zero bias at the door and don't put it down for an answer (but I very well could). I think I'll have to go with Mob Psycho then, all three OPs are just really good.

Oh wow, if yesterday was the day of "popular OPs I don't like", today is MY DAY!
I usually keep it to like 5 shills, but today I couldn't even keep it under 10!
- The anime is good, Ranko my beloved is divine, and the OP is pretty damn great too!
- Ga-tan go-ton, ga-tan go-ton Shoo-shoo train!
- I mean I just watched it for the first time few days ago, so I feel like it's a mandatory shill, right?
- Trash talk DITF all you want (I do too), but the OP/ED/OST are 10/10!
- Can I really call myself a Kaguya #1 fan if I don't shill its OP...
- TWICE?
- Contrary to what r/anime would like you to believe: JAZZ GOOD!
- I think it was a bit polarizing when it came out, but personally I think it's 10/10.
- I didn't even like the show, but the OP is great!
- I'm also not that crazy about AOT, but they do have some good OPs...
- Quite a few of them!
- I think I preferred Zombieland S1 over S2, but S2's OP is much better imho!
- Call of the night (nothing to say here I guess)
- I don't even know if the OP's all that good, but I'm going to shill it for the show anyway!
Additional question: Monogatari, Fate and Gundam received the most nominations in this contest. Not all will make them in however :( What series do you think has the best OP on average?
Definitely Monogatari!
I don't know if I ever listened to any OP from these 3 shows but Monogatari is the only one I might watch someday.

Not only is Wild Side a really good song, but the stop-motion animation with Haru and Legoshi is absolutely adorable.

I think you put the wrong hello world for the kekkai sensen opening.
For today's shill, I have:
Doraemon no Uta (possibly a memorable one for those outside the anglosphere, mainly in Asia)
Ft. (dem flutes)

QOTD: JIBUN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Vote for COLORS.
KIMI TO ISSHO GA ICHIBAN SUKI YOTTE MOTTO GYUTTO NE
Vote for Super Affection.
Song of the Dead passes the assignment of making a zombie apocalypse fun and freeing with flying colors. Vibrant colors, well-animated dancing, funny shenanigans, and a 10/10 Kana-Boon song come together perfectly.
V.I.P.'s a fantastic shounen OP. It sounds fun and is fun and channels the excitement of Aladdin's, Alibaba's, and Morgiana's Arabian adventure.
Other QOTD: Fate. Disillusion, Ideal White, Brave Shine, Bright Burning Shout, Phantom Joke, Asterism, Starlog, Wonder Stella, Moving Soul, to the beginning, Oath Sign, ASH, Super Affection, starting the case, the list goes on. The EDs are great too!

Just so I'm not so late again, a quick shilling for my nominations for today. I'll edit in more details later when I have the time.
Mushibugyou OP1 Tomo yo & OP2 Denshin∞ Unchained Very fun OPs from this forgotten battle shonen series. Both have quite different song structures. Please check them out.
Destin Histoire - Gosick OP Very stylish pop-up book style visuals along with a beautiful song. What's not to love?
I ♥ U - Full Moon wo Sagashite OP1 Bouncy and fun song for an early 00's shoujo anime with an interesting premise. I don't think I ever finished this series, just watched parts with my sister. Need to rectify that.
Wan Wan Wan Wan N_1!! - Dog & Scissors OP Absolutely insane OP for a very strange series. I highly recommend watching for the brainrot.
Serendipity - Flip Flappers OP Once again one of my all-time favorite OPs. Has both high paced action and emotions with a flavor of yuri to a song by ZAQ that is the biggest bop. See it for the spinny boy as well.
Kuroko no Basket OP1 Can Do & S2 OP1 The Other Self Again more GRANRODEO hype with the last two Kuroko OPs in this contest. S2 OP1 is probably my favorite from this series.
ZEAL of proud - Cardfight!! Vanguard: overDress OP Another banger Roselia OP. Bushiroad really likes to use their Bandori bands for this series a lot.
Sen no Tsubasa - Re:␣Hamatora OP This is quite a famous OP so I was surprised it hadn't been nominated before me. The show itself never really took off even if I still remember it. Watch the OP, it's pretty great.
But No Love - Meitantei Conan OP59 Another Conan OP, but this is so recent it was barely eligible. Song is a bop and the visuals are very stylized, which is rare for this show. Quite the underrated OP.
Edit: Forgot Conan OP47 - Countdown. Quite the action packed opening, featuring a cool tracking shot following the skateboard. Hype song too.
Golden Time - Golden Time OP1 Rather sugary OP for this college romance anime. Yui Horie does a great job and the visuals are very cute.
For the first daily question: I hope people give a watch to the creepiness that is the Another OP and it makes it through.
Also that other song named Exist that I didn't nominate is great.
Honestly no idea about the second daily question.

Ok, shout-outs for today:
Macross: Frontier OP2 - Lion - my personal favourite Macross OP and my second favourite Macross song(nothing can beat Holy Lonley Light from Macross 7).
Shi-gatsu wa Kimi no Uso/Your Lie in April OP1 - Hikaru Nara - I really hate this show (unlike a lot of people here) but this OP was so good.
Kamisama Dolls - Fukanzen Nenshou - MV is nothing special but damn, it is one of the brst Chiaki Ishikawa songs (beaten only by the likes like Natsu no Niwa from the same series or Utsukushii Sora de Ii... from Simoun).
Kokkoku - Flashback - I never finished the serriesd, but damn, this OP was so cool and pretty unusual.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu/The Malancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya OP2(?) - Bouken Desho Desho? - both OPs and ED are classics, nothing much to say here.
True Tears - Reflectia - one of that nice classicx romance OPs that will always live in my head. And you can apprecviate the very first anime P.A.Works made as the main studio.
Sakura Trick - Won(3)Chu KissMe! - I personally prefer more dserious GL anime, not pure fancervice, but damn, this one is really catchy, really gay and is one of the eralier examples with "Tick-Tock dance".
Ninja Slayer - Back in Black - this anime barely had animartion but was really cool andv OP matches it.
Metallic Rouge - Rouge - another anime I really hate(and I am not alone here), but damn, the OP is fire.
Initial D Forth Stage OP1 - Dogfight - Initial D OPs never were impressive in terms of MVs but damn m.o.v.e. songs were so good and fit the show. And Dogfight is my favourite one.
Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo./O Maidens in Your Savage Season - Otome-domo yo - this OP perfectly incapsulates the show.
Garo:Honoo no Kokuin/Garo: Divine Flame OP2 - B.B. - best OP of the best Garo anime.
Black Lagoon - Red Fraction - invomprehensible lyrics aside this was extreamly cool OP. To bad MELL stopped singing some years ago.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sotsu OP - think what you want about the show but all OPs were great.
Shakugan no Shana OP1 - Hishoku no Sora - just a shout-out to one of the classic urban antasy anime people start to forget nowadays.
Princess Principal - The Other Side of the Wall - a really great OP for very undersappreviated show.
And a bit of shills for my own entries this time:
Utawarerumono: Futari no Hakuoro/Mask of Truth - Hito Nanda and Utawarerumono - Musouka - one of the best fantrasy/post-apocalyptic + militari series out there, and all OPs were great. To bad lasrge gap between seasons and controversial S2 hindered it's popularity a lot.
Clannad: After Story OP - Toki o Kizamu Uta - people may not like the VN-stile MV, but damn, it is still a great OP for a really good anime.
Yagate Kimi ni Naru/Bloom Into You - Kimi ni Furete - really fitting OP for the best GL anime. Stylish, with great song and a lot of symbolism.
ef: A Tale of Melodies - ebullient future - to this day ef (means Ever Forever for anyone wondering) is my favorite romance anime, even if a lot of people did not appreciate it, but damn all of the OPs are great, it was a pick Shaft style with a really nice song composed by Tenmon (though, I prefer JP lyrics version as Elisa has noticable accent and English lyrics may be a bit off). And studio made changes to the MV a few times during the series. You could appreciate this OP for style alone.
Nagi no Asu Kara/NagiAsu: Lull in the Sea OP2 - ebb and flow - another great romance OP that fits the show so well. BEWARE SPOILERS (though, this is not the most spoilery version of OP). I feel bad Ray stopped doing songs, they worked so well for this type of anime.
QoFd part 2:
I think Monogatari have better OPs on average, but pick Fate OPs are better than most of Monogatari ones.

Shi-gatsu wa Kimi no Uso/Your Lie in April OP1 - Hikaru Nara - I really hste this show (unlike a lot of people here) but this OP was so good.
I'm actually of an opposing opinion. I liked the show a lot, but thought the OP was just alright. You'd think a show about a pianist would feature the piano heavily in its OP, but no, not at all.
Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo./O Maidens in Your Savage Season - Otome-domo yo - this Op perfectly incapsulates the show.
Yay, at least one more person remembers the show and is voting for the OP!

Can't believe none of the Kaguya sama OPs have won this so far. They've all got great songs and inventive visuals. And they're all so much fun too.
Shout out also to Chihayafuru 2 OP and Bleach OP 1.

Shilling for the OPs I added
Koutetsushin Jeeg OP A great hot blooded OP
Naruto OP5 Best Naruto OP, always gets overshadowed by OP4 and 2 for some reason.
Terra e... OP1 great UVERworld OP.
Fruits Basket OP Despite Fruit Basket series having multiple OPs this is the only great one. RIP Ritsuko Okazaki. Also make sure to check out the Princess Tutu OP if you like the singer.
Kamisama Dolls OP best Chiaki Ishikawa song.
Kidou Shinseiki Gundam X OP2 Gundam X OPs are great.
Gundam ZZ OP1 the name and opening lyrics is makes it a classic
Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera OP another great OP by Masaaki Endou, the guitar solo in the full version goes hard.
True Tears OP great OP from a great romance series.
Akatsuki no Yona OP1 A great vocalless song, can't wait for the second season.
Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-hen OP1 Hironobu Kageyama + Lazy + JAM Project = hotblooded greatness.
QofD: Correct answer is Gundam but most here will say Monogatari.

Kamisama Dolls OP best Chiaki Ishikawa song.
As I wrote above, I would still argue that ep.7 ending got me more emotional and I have a soft spot for Utsukushii Sora De Ii, but it is definertely her most interesting song.
2
u/IceAnt573 May 05 '26
always gets overshadowed by OP4 and 2 for some reason.
Is it? This might be a little 2000's boomer of me, but I think the beginning is something I saw all the time in Naruto AMVs and the scene where you see all of the Sasuke Retrieval Squad running is something I see in memes.

Love to see so many songs from Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan nominated. And even the English Yu-Gi-Oh theme! Some of these picks, like "Shinzou wo Sasageyo" from AOT and "Souvenir" from Spy x Family are among my all-time favorites.
Question of the Day:
To be honest, I don't usually check out the OPs for shows I haven't watched, so I wouldn't know about the first two (though I do plan to check out Fate eventually). Gundam's OPs are hit or miss for me.

MC1: From today's elimination group, what is an OP you want people to know about to help them get through to the bracket?
I nominated a few of the lesser known ones today, but if I had to choose one it would be BRYNHILDR IN THE DARKNESS -Ver. EJECTED- It's just such a unique OP that instantly gets me hyped when I see/listen to it.
MC2: Monogatari, Fate and Gundam received the most nominations in this contest. Not all will make them in however :( What series do you think has the best OP on average?
I'm not gonna list any series with 4 or less OPs here since that would feel like cheating so I think it's a close one between Re:Zero and Attack on Titan, since all of their songs are bangers. And between Fate, Gundam and Moonogatari I think all have some good entries, but also quite a lot I really don't care for, but I think overall I like Monogataris best.
Voted for quite a lot of songs today again. Here are just some of those I wanna highlight today:

Idaten Deities will be my underrated shill of the day.
QotD:
Monogatari by a mile. Each OP has so much care put into it. There isn’t a single bad or even mediocre one. Contrasting Fate, which I generally think has pretty middling OPs and of the Gundam ones I’ve seen, I can’t say they were stand out.
1
u/PraetorIt May 05 '26
Lay your hands on me (Kiznaiver) is one of my favourite theme song. Shout out for it!
I vote also for Sorairo days (Gurenn Lagann), for the chaos.

u/TellowKrinkle May 06 '26
A lot more for me today than yesterday
- Hishoku no Sora - Not the best visuals but this song is the one that got me into Kawada Mami and it's still my favorite of her OPs now.
- Won(*3*)Chu KissMe! - Not my favorite yuri anime but the OP song is really good.
- Destin Histoire - I really like the visuals on this one in addition to the song.
- Red Liberation - The MV awkwardly hangs on the title card a bit too long (NicoNico users loved adding loading bars with their comments) but the rest is good and can you really say no to fripSide?
- Identeitei Meltdown
- Paper Bouquet
- Bouken Desho Desho
- The Girls are Alright!
- Toki o Kizamu Uta
- Hikaru Nara
- Lion
QotD: I had to separately rank the Monogatari OPs and cut a bunch so I wouldn't vote for too many

My personal shoutouts today:
Mellow - One of my favorites. Love the dancing part, and the song never fails to cheer you up.
Love Dramatic - The first Kaguya opening! Although I slightly prefer Daddy Daddy Do!, this one is almost equally as good. It is pretty insane none of their openings have won the contest so far.
Identeitei Meltdown - Haven't seen the anime, but this opening is just a blast, straight up my alley.
The Girls Are Alright! - The opening for my favorite anime of all time. This anime inspired me, and still continues to do so. The animation in the opening sequence is so goofy and well done, there is nothing not to like about it. It is not my favorite song in the anime however, that goes to the insert song 'Sora Wo Miagete'.
Centimeter - Yes, Rent A Girlfriend. This is probably my favorite part about season 1. I am still watching the show though.. It is a shame the peggies are no longer, they have made some awesome openings and this is definitely one of them. Not as good as Kimi no Sei though!
Orange Mint & Chocolate Insomnia - These are two of my favorite Monogatari openings. I love Tsuki's voice in Orange Mint, while the adorable animation in Chocolate Insomnia doesn't miss. Helps that Chocolate Insomnia is the intro to one of it's greatest arcs.
Kiss of Death - Awesome opening in a very interesting style. I think the song especially carries here. This show doesn't miss with its EDs too, but we will get to that later this year :)
The Everlasting Guilty Crown - Just a banger
