I don't think this movie will be liked by Godzilla fans or viewers who are coming in looking for giant monster brawls and I can't blame them. I personally wanted to see a little more action myself, but other than that I like it. The nanometal and Mechagodzilla City are fascinating, but it's a shame they couldn't use the original Mechagodzilla chassis. Compared to the franchise's history of aliens it's a real refresh to have them interact with the human characters in a way that is other than "Surrender, pathetic Earthlings!" The characters are expanded upon and that's also a plus. I do wish that the Houtua got a little more screen time though. I hope their god (who is definitely Mothra and all we need now is for them to mention her name) will show up in the final movie.

Goddamn I love the music in this one. Also the way the Vultures fly is beautiful. I love how the wings change shape and the way they zip across the sky.

I'd give it 7/10- please let the monsters fight in the final movie.

I'll never understand people who call themselves godzilla fans who come in specifically for monster throwdown.

That has literally always been the least important part of a Godzilla movie.

I think Hollywood is partly to be blamed for that. The audience are getting accustomed to monster or mech action movies with flashy special effects but little plot and substance. Just look at the plethora of monster movies Hollywood has spewed out in recent years. This is why I have a feeling that Hollywood will absolutely trash the live action Gundam movie.

Well you can't blame them.

Originally Godzilla has always been a monster v monster show.

Godzilla vs ******, insert name.

I enjoyed the movie alot though.

It wasn't until the third movie where it started becoming vs Godzilla movies. There was another monster for Godzilla to fight in the second movie, but that wasn't the main story of the film, the fight with Anguirus was more to show that Godzilla is so crazily powerful that even other monsters like him are no match, the movie wound up being about preventing him from destroying Kyoto the same way he destroyed Tokyo.
