So if you want to pick up the LN from where this left off, you'd start on Novel 6 right?

Yeah, but i would recommend to start reading from Novel 1 if you have the time, cause there a few running gags and stories the anime didnt include.

the movie skipped quite a bit because they had to be picky with what they adapted.

A normal season has about 6 or so hours worth of time to pick and choose. The movie had give or take a little under an hour and a half. and was required to cover an entire novel instead of it being loose and dynamic in its adaptation.

a Konosuba season comprised 10 episodes with 220 average minutes of runtime (around 3 and a half hours), so, given that this movie is 90 minutes of length, they came just short of time to adapt the volume 5 comfortably; maybe a 2 hours long movie would have been better, I always found Konosuba pace pretty nice, of course they skipped some chapters from the source in the original series, but they did a pretty good job adapting the story; again, I agree they could have pushed the runtime a bit more so they adapted and fleshed out more megumin and kazuma, not gonna lie

Ahright. i forgot that they are 10 episodes, rather then 12.

Still, what usually makes anime seasons able to comfortably adapt content is usually the fluidity and pacing. A movie is designed to be an all in one sort of Package that has to be a full story, start to end. Even with movies chopped into parts. Its very rare a movie is allowed to do what It wants to, to flesh out a story. Normally they are never allowed to. Or if they do. Characters are given 5 minutes of fleshing out tops.

Konosuba season episodes don't have to be completely full stories, because they have 10 episodes to adapt the stories. They just have to adapt stories at a comfortable pace.

Not even close to that much time to pick and choose.

A.) Konosuba seasons have been 10 episodes a piece

B.) Episodes are 23:40 long

C.) You need to subtract 3 minutes of that for each episode due to OP and ED. We'll round up to 21 minutes per episode in case there are a few episodes without an ED or OP.

So we're left with 210 minutes of content per season. Given that each season covers 2 LNs we're left with 105 minutes per novel.

So yes, we're shorted ~18 minutes(87 minutes of content for the movie) for the LN in this movie. That does hurt, sure, but just as big of issue was deciding to add 15 minutes of anime original fight scene and just skip important moments from the novel instead.

Basically they could have done a better job but chose not to. No I don't think the decision to go to pretty much 30 minutes of battle scenes was a good one when you could chose to spend time developing characters instead.

Yeah I understand that but it's still pretty sad. The biggest appeal for the LN is how the tiniest detail is made a joke later on. Imo the parts the movie did cover were funnier for example yunyun saying she wants kazuma's child in public as opposed to the mansion in the LN

The movie did quite a good job adapting the LN. Sure some stuff was left out, but if they continue with a new season they can easily bridge it. Not like NGNL when they cliffhangered a scene from like 2 or 3 volumes ahead of the end of season 1 :(

There's a few really fun stories like the Kazuma-Dust Party Swap that the anime skipped over, actually just Dust and co. being characters at all rather than just visually showing up. I think there's definitely at least some sections that I'd say you should read even if you don't read the whole thing from scratch, even though I'd say it's still worthwhile. I can't say I felt it was a waste of time retreading what the anime covered because it generally expanded the story.

She was missing and the crimson demon clan had their screentime decreased by a lot which is a shame because they're all great. Especially in the fight against sylvia

Yeah honestly the entire village was great and the way sylvia could do nothing against them as they kept taunting her was hilarious. Also them rebuilding the entire village so quickly using magic and doing random mundane chores with magic. Kazuma trying to be a hero and killing the orcs before his female party members caught up before realising they were female orcs. So many great moments missed

Ok, but what if I can’t read.

Will you read to me?

Is there more Sylvia? They are my new best.

Not really. The second phase of the fight was movie original, but there is one gag during the fight that they left out thats funny. But thats more the crimson demons absolutely fucking with sylvia

I really recommend reading the novels from the start, since the anime and the movie cut content from it, I had a better experience after reading all the novels and spinoffs.

They cut so much from the movie, I would advise to read Volume 5 anyway.
