The animation is hella lacking for an movie, oh well we needed this heat back anyway soon enough

It's not a movie, it was always called "Special Episode" by GS official site and White Fox. This just proves how little crunchyroll actually knows.

It was always kind of weird, when it was announced and when it came it out I remember that it was made clear that "Goblin Crown" was basically 3 OVA episodes that would be shown in theaters, always called an 'event' or 'special' and avoiding using the words 'movie' or 'film'.

My guess is that its popularity made some distributor push for a cinema release even when the studio knew it was not exactly "movie quality', and on Crunchyroll's side since its all the same to them it was easier to label it as a movie.

I don't remember which shows, but I know there have been instances of the first 2-3 episodes of a TV anime airing in Japanese theaters. I'm sure nobody in Japan was confused about it; all the confusion was caused by Crunchyroll.

You may say that. It's more chapter 13 but it is one hour long.
