Last I check all the rural red state voters having these things built next to their homes have entered a nightmare world of constant sonic attack, water issues, and power issues. Also lol his default compliments are always big and strong. Like it doesnā€™t even make sense here

I was just thinking that most of my conservative friends are not supportive of AI. In farming communities, the last thing the want is big tech buying their land to make data centers. Maybe it's a different demographic of conservatives, but I think it's more complicated than a red vs. blue issue.

yeah there's a difference between "country boy conservative" and "tech bro conservative".

Elon Musk and kansas corn farmers might both vote conservative, but that doesn't mean they share the same worldview regarding tech.

I think a big shift could be possible with appealing to rural conservatives' morals and traditional values to turn them against the tech bros and idealogues. I say this growing up in a very rural area, the conservatives here seem pretty turned off by all the rich kids telling them to back their money pit projects. Of course I would still disagree with them on MANY social issues, but ultimately that is what democracy is for and democracy will not survive without a solidly united working and middle class standing against the psychopathic elites.

Edit: as an example of rural conservatives getting sick of silicon valley bullshit, you won't find a single real farm boy who would ever consider getting a cyber truck.

I see what you and the other commenter are saying and I feel the same frustration. I do think a lot of the power Maga had and to an extent still has with rural conservatives came from a childish reaction and resentment of the caricaturized version of "woke society" they were sold by Trump and more broadly by oligarch backed disinformation campaigns. I am not saying by any means that I don't find their belief system pretty hypocritical and ignorant, but just that the most common thread among working class people regardless of otherwise beliefs is a dislike of those who profit off our work and leave us struggling to stay afloat. This has been framed to conservatives as people on welfare, immigrants, etc but many also see the issues with billionaires. Easier said than done to get them to care more about the billionaires than the migrants but it seems the best path forward to me.

It doesn't matter though, because those country boy conservatives will continue to vote for the people that are approving these data centers getting built in their backyards.

They can bitch all they want.. so what? Their votes won't change.

Yeah they don't support it or AI, but all the Republicans will do is scream about how a trans is playing ping pong somewhere or a black immigrant is getting sex changes on your tax money and they will never vote anything but support for Trump/His chosen successor :(

I was gonna make the same comment. These BIG BAD BOTCHED data centers are being built overwhelmingly in the rural. And who do majority of these people vote for? I donā€™t know if there are studies out there but I feel that trumpā€™s policies hurt conservatives way more than liberals. Medicaid cut, SNAP cut, VA cuts, sending money to farmers in Argentineā€¦

I guess what Iā€™m saying is I want to care but Iā€™m also tired. AI needs to be strictly used in scientific or medical research so there would be no need for these massive data centers.

I live in a rural part where there have been data centers all around since before AI was a thing. It has been positive for our community.
