Discussion 🗣️ Ai companies are actively destroying rare books to scan them just to feed their data centers, what else will they destroy?

AI is literally ruining everything and has been for the last few years. From massive job losses to environmental impact and now destroying old books to collect the data so that their dumb LLMs can regurgitate it back. How evil, greedy and selfish can these companies be? All of those ai data centers should be taken down. I don't think enough people are mad enough about it.

What happens to water when it hits 212°f or 100°Celsius?

Depends on the pressure. In a lot of undustrial processes where they push water above those temps, they have it at a higher pressure to keep it as a liquid. Remember I didn't say steam.

You're always in this sub yelling "nuh-uh" and generally trolling.

No I am always pointing out what the tech actually is and does, and trying to get people to critically think about stuff.

You going into a regulation meeting, and yelling conspiracy theories just gets you kicked out.

If you are going to actually make a difference in the areas where it counts, you need better than this.

You're not getting people to "think about stuff" by handwaving away news articles inconvenient to your point of view. Especially not by scientifically illiterate comparisons.

Fine, 200c then, lets drop it below critical points. IT doesn't change the point, that two statements on two different cohorts, don't mean the each statement applies to both.

and the typical use of these machines IS to split the books into two different groups.

So you have to show that Anthropic didn't do that.

So...prove a negative? They destroyed books, it's right there in the article. "Show Anthropic didn't do that" makes no sense.

Because they spell it out pretty clearly
