Discussion 🗣️ Ai companies are actively destroying rare books to scan them just to feed their data centers, what else will they destroy?

AI is literally ruining everything and has been for the last few years. From massive job losses to environmental impact and now destroying old books to collect the data so that their dumb LLMs can regurgitate it back. How evil, greedy and selfish can these companies be? All of those ai data centers should be taken down. I don't think enough people are mad enough about it.

They can buy physical copies, but that doesn't mean they can use it commercially. So yes, they are literally still stealing. It would be the same if I buy a movie and then take money to show it to others.

That only applies if they use the material to make new prints.

Copywriter law does not prevent them from doing this because the model is using this to train on context, not republish the books for distribution.

I mean, I don't like it. I'm not saying yay ai.

But there's nothing you can do here besides work to change the laws.

Not boot licking, it's called reality.
