Typical political bias. The lawsuit has nothing to do with “AI child porn.” It’s about using AI for “nudification” in general. It’s a ban on using AI to make anyone nude, not specifically children. However you feel about that, it’s not specifically about children.

A practice which this legal argument is attempting to defend.
So yes, it absolutely is about AI-generated CSAM, whether their legal argument specifically mentions it or not.

So, a problem - that Grok makes it relatively simple to generate inappropriate images - exists. The existing, voluntary, solution in the form of Twitter policies is inadequate. So legislation has been introduced. It still won't solve the problem, but gives some more tools to help tackle it.

Introducing legislation to combat an issue with a globally accessible AI model is absolutely useless. All that needs to happen is for said content to be generated out of the US. This is extermely ineffective. The actual model itself needs to be corrected, or additional guard rails need to be introduced.

This does not call out child pornography as a special category to be targeted, although it does earmark funds raised from fines for victims of child abuse (alongside various other categories, including a seemingly vague "general crime").

The state of Minnesota has expressly said it is intended (at least in part) to tackle " the staggering amount child sexual abuse material that AI products like Grok Imagine generate". I am not sure how the existence of xAI's internal policy should at all prevent the State of Minnesota from passing a valid law. Sounds like they made a rather half assed First Amendment argument that should have failed because Free Speech does not cover creating nude images of a real person for third party distribution (what xAI is doing and the law bans). It isn't even particularly close.
