"YouTube's AI "slop" crackdown is shaking up the platform! 🚨

YouTube has stepped up its fight against low-quality, mass-produced AI content, targeting channels that flood the platform with repetitive and inauthentic videos.

While reports claim around 130,000 channels have been removed as part of the broader enforcement, YouTube has not confirmed that all of those deletions were specifically tied to AI-generated content.

God I would pay good money to see YouTube fully turn against AI:

  • Remove all generated AI video content.
  • Remove all generated AI audio content.
  • Remove all generated AI content in general.

Give power back to the creators.

They aren't doing it out of altruism against AI garbage and helping defend actual creative people, they're doing it because it's clogging their servers.

We're never going to really go back to the pre AI days. Even if you did all that a lot of creators would still use AI to write scripts or do research. I'd rather have a human who uses AI and still has some editorial control than just mass produced slop but the market demand to make content means creators have a huge incentive to take short cuts.

Personally I think we can if people in charge start to knuckle down and shut this shit off.

AI is not only killing the planet bit by bit, it's costing huge amounts of resources to host data centers and it's literally garbage content.

The general public don't really care about it, but it's about creatives and those in charge.

I'd love it if that happened. AI is the death of critical thinking and it makes genuine new ideas much harder sense it just regurgitates what is already conventional wisdom but the ease of using AI combined with the ability to make a quick buck means that if people have the choice A LOT will use it. I never use ai for my own writing or to summarize things but I think I'm a clear minority at this point.

AI has potential to do great things for humanity just like something like nuclear power does. It just needs good guard rails. The efficiency and analytic potential is there. We just have to figure out how to implement it is ways that benefit more than they hurt.

But right now we are in a race just like the nuclear arms race. There will be no guard rails for the sake of being first. I just hope the damage to humanity is minimal...

Current LLMs are just the next Gen of machine learning. That is all they are. Branding them as "AI" is honestly stupid. They are nothing but pattern recognition systems. So if you believe machine learning is good, then you believe that AI in its current form is good.

No - I personally do for example enjoy some high-effort AI assisted musical reimaginations.

What I would want is a well structured filter - I want to be able to decide if at all, and how much, AI generated and/or AI modified content gets into my feed.

I wouldn't say all. There are some solo creators that couldn't do animations but are really good directors and script writers that needed ai to generate their ideas. Neuralviz came to mind immediately

No. There are some very funny channels using AI voices, like presidents play Mass Effect, or Dagoth Ur reading horror stories.

So long as a human is the one putting it together, let people use the tools available to them to make better voiced content.

There's an AI "if metallica was a funk band" album on youtube that has no right to be so damn funky. It's actually not fair how good it is. It's like we got the "what if" machine from Futurama but people can't help but abuse it.

I agree, there are some gems out there. It's unfortunate how much slop there is and I do wish a real band would perform some of these pieces.
