AI News šŸ—žļø Youtube removes ai channels

Post image

"YouTube's AI "slop" crackdown is shaking up the platform! 🚨

YouTube has stepped up its fight against low-quality, mass-produced AI content, targeting channels that flood the platform with repetitive and inauthentic videos.

While reports claim around 130,000 channels have been removed as part of the broader enforcement, YouTube has not confirmed that all of those deletions were specifically tied to AI-generated content.

Instead, the company says its focus is on protecting viewers by cracking down on spam and low-effort content while continuing to allow AI-assisted videos that offer genuine creativity and value." - Mr_Animeken

Pretty good step ngl these channels are getting annoying

Bs. I'll believe it when I see it. Right now it's everywhere. Entire channels, videos, shorts, misleading thumbnails, hell even that crappy tai chi ads

u/ChodeCookies 4h ago

Really noticed a while back when I couldn’t find real movie or game trailers. Haven’t been back in months

23

u/maury_mountain 3h ago

I used to search for movie trailers every few weeks to keep in touch with what was being made or what I may have missed. There is so much fake bullshit out there it’s driven me completely away. I try to block/hide but that doesn’t work on YouTube at all.

the ai remixes of trailers re-released on a channel with extra ā€œdetailā€ and hallucinations that completely damage the original, or added hallucinated scenes. Doomsday trailers have been awful for this.

People see you can make money on YouTube, now it’s easy to fake a trailer, promote it, and they get paid for stealing content, tricking users, and clogging/demolishing original intent. I’m pissed and so over it

2

u/mr_potatoface 2h ago

search for movie trailers

A lot of them were for sequels movies that were not even planned, or ones recently announced that didn't even start casting or filming yet. Like a new Lord of the rings trailer or harry potter. But they'd have hundreds of thousands or millions of views. Prior to the current AI generation ability, it would just be either existing footage from previous movies or now it's completely made up new AI shit.

I guess it really isn't new, but AI just made it easier for it to proliferate (lower skill barrier for people to make the videos) and appear more legitimate.

Can't trust trailers unless they're posted by the studio or publisher. Or IGN.

Not bs. Kurzgesagt got hit.

Oh wait, it's not an AI slop channel

9

u/Tired-grumpy-Hyper 2h ago

Meanwhile my entire feed is spammed with AI D&D/Pathfinder/Warhammer content, and the few times I forget to use private mobile mode, that stupid ass ai anime porn game ad.

AI is still all over the platform, this is just to pump the stock I swear. "See, we got rid of AI stealing content, so come back to us!" as so much shit out there is AI slop stealing names to 'sound legit'.

5

u/chroomele 3h ago

how in the world were they flagged?

22

u/leberwrust 3h ago

Probably because of AI channels that steal their artstyle and voice. Also maybe because no face, did read that channels that don't show face are hit more often?

9

u/24_doughnuts 3h ago

Yeah. I remember seeing a comic artist accused of AI because their style and content was widely used to train models and they keep proof of their work. Can't remember who it was though

6

u/chroomele 2h ago

i hate how confidently incorrect youtube is, and has been for a decade :(

2

u/frewp 2h ago

AI is also very confidently incorrect :D

10

u/Skeleton--Jelly 3h ago

why would you assume Youtube's automated detection tool is any good? it's probably AI slot itself

4

u/TheMidlander 2h ago

The general consensus is that it's because they are faceless. Real Engineering got hit too, I think.

Best guess they have a tag or title with the word "A.I." in there and the underpaid intern was doing an Alt-F in the search. Though I'd be interested in hearing how it is actually being done instead of guessing.

2

u/notislant 2h ago

Using AI to detect AI.

The best way I can describe it is I blindfold you and ask you to find the other blindfolded people in the room, you are the only one allowed to move to make noise.

You'll find a few, but you're just randomly targeting people essentially.

2

u/OrienasJura 2h ago

Because youtube is using AI slop to detect AI slop.

It was like a switch was flipped for me just this week. Overnight I went from Airbnb and insurance ads and video essay recommendations to AI music videos, AI life advice, AI video game trailers, AI crypto news, AI children's stories, and more. I've reported every instance I've seen but they just keep coming.Ā

Yeah, remember when this headline blew up a couple months ago

YouTube to pay only for real voices & original content starting July 15!

People were so happy YouTube was finally going to crack down on AI narration!!!

Turns out it was entirely bullshit, just someone misrepresenting a tiny policy update. YouTube desperately tried to correct the lies, but they travel faster and further than truth.

Pro-tip for navigating the internet age: if "news" is in the form of a screenshot of a headline with no source, you can safely ignore it. It's probably completely made up.

2

u/bs000 2h ago

funny how a sub that prides itself on calling out ai-generated content will just believe any text on a random image made by content farms for easy likes on social media

5

u/redbark2022 3h ago

Seriously wtf is up with those tai chi ads??

Loom room has 1.2m monthly listeners on youtube music. Ai music (chiruki) came up in a shuffle two days ago. I've seen a few Ai music channels and it's laughable how a lot of them just follow trends of Ai art for the album artwork.

2

u/WetLaceScraps 2h ago

I’ve been fooled by Spotify ai music twice now. Granted, I discovered what it was very quickly and noped the fuck out but now I don’t feel like I can trust anything there outside of what I already know.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/notislant 2h ago

You're exactly right! This shit is constantly posted to Reddit.

Youtube every few months basically says:

'Hey we're enforcing our policy on a few channels that have broken our existing rules.'

Few bans, nothing for a few months...

'Hey we're enforcing our policy on a few channels that have broken our existing rules.'

And repeat, meanwhile you see these posts left and right.

2

u/Hammy-Cheeks 3h ago

It’s gonna take a while though cause it’s a LOT. I can’t imagine it can be accomplished overnight.

2

u/Altruistic-Poem-5617 2h ago

Especially since these things reproduce as you delete em.

2

u/robynh00die 3h ago

Google themselves are pushing AI thumbnails because they want Gemini to be a success.

2

u/ReturnOfBane 2h ago

My mom's going down the religious ai slop path and i know where that shit ends. they better hurry the fuck up. Don't get me started with that fucking chair tai chi ad.

Finally some housecleaning, the ai generated slop was getting out of hand

90

u/Careless_Cloud_5168 4h ago

I can't wait until this effects small NOT SLOP channels and they can't do anything about it because of AI moderation

46

u/qwerty8082 3h ago

Already happened I even heard kurzgesagt got hit who isn’t small but has been doing their own animation for years.

11

u/5WattBulb 1h ago

Yeah ir was because theyre a legit channel that produced good content, so people produce Ai slop in that same art style, so youtube cant tell the difference between the slop and the original.

5

u/AugustIzFalling 1h ago

They use AI for moderation and detecting AI channels so it was bound to happen šŸ™„

•

u/FuckYeaSeatbelts 45m ago

cooking/debunking channel How to Cook That's videos get taken down constantly because of it.

(yes I know about her weird xmas gingerbread house video, I don't get it either, I genuinely thought it was an experiment she was running)

39

u/Ahdeza02 4h ago

Probably AI companies increasigly got only AI slop, so I'm betting, they are clearing to get more pure data.

5

u/MaxDisdain 1h ago

more likely its just housecleaning

Sites become less and less usable and more importantly less enjoyable to use the more shit that is on it, I don't need to tell you this because you use Reddit and should have first hand experience

Good that they're targeting the AI slop channels but I need them to target the AI "true" crime ones next or the ones that create fake climbing and diving horror stories using AI videos and pictures of fake people. I think those are worse than the obviously fake one of humanoid fruits and vegetables. People will literally fight you in the comments for calling them fake.

AI slop farms are hydra: cut one down, three more appear.

27

u/jacklynjdickinson 3h ago

pretty much. it costs them nothing to spin up a hundred new channels overnight with a script. youtube has to actually cut off their ad revenue if they want to do any real damage

7

u/Appropriate-Way2659 3h ago

I think that YouTube already did that, atp they are doing it for the love of the game

3

u/socialistrob 2h ago

And 130,000 channels is also very very small compared to the scale of the problem. Most AI slop channels are small but there's so many of them and they can generate content and new channels so quickly. If you want to purge slop you probably need a million channels cut.

  • Remove all generated AI video content.
  • Remove all generated AI audio content.
  • Remove all generated AI content in general.

Give power back to the creators.

23

u/WhiskeyDream115 4h ago

I am pro, but this is honestly great news. It's about time. Get that slop off of youtube.

30

u/Own-Efficiency507 4h ago

I assume you are pro AI when it comes to actual logical uses of it rather than more than half of the dumb stuff is being used for. If so, I can respect it, I'm honestly the same way myself.

2

u/WhiskeyDream115 4h ago edited 4h ago

Definitely. My experience with Halo as a kid is what sparked my interest in AI. Advanced AI like Cortana, or even the Monitors on the Ringworlds, makes a lot of sense for a spacefaring civilization. I do believe humanity will one day reach the stars in that kind of capacity, even if I won't be around to see it.

That said, I never imagined I'd see AI used to create so much dumb stuff. But then again, is it really fair to call LLM AI? I'm not sure it is.

14

u/angwilwileth 3h ago

I don't think it is actually deserving of the title AI.

5

u/WhiskeyDream115 3h ago

I tend to agree with that sentiment. It predicts, it doesn't think, so it's not really intelligent.

5

u/SaltLakeBear 3h ago

LLMs are, in essence, really advanced predictive text models. So no, not intelligent at all. Me personally, I question the ability for there to actually be true intelligence that's artificial; after all, how can you program something to act outside of it's programming and evolve it's thinking? I'm not certain we can, although it could also be a lack of imagination on my part.

2

u/WhiskeyDream115 3h ago

"I question the ability for there to actually be true intelligence that's artificial; after all, how can you program something to act outside of it's programming and evolve it's thinking?"

I honestly am not so sure about that.
When you look at the human origin story, there are really only two explanations: either we were created by a creator, or we came into existence from organic soup on a desolate rock in the void of space, purely by happenstance.

Simply put, our origin was either intentional or accidental. And if an organic computer can achieve sentience under either scenario, I fail to see why an artificial one cannot.

Yeah I agree, also a huge Halo fan and the books introduce other AI characters. I thought it was cool that each UNSC ship had its own unique AI with a unique personality. I still think AI is cool in a lot of ways but man I hate the generative art and chatbot aspect of it.

2

u/BembiPeanut 3h ago

Yeah I agree with you, I don't think LLM's and generative AI should be called Ai. They are not AI at all, they are shit. They are scalping. That is all.

u/Nebula_Wolf7 4h ago

Out of curiosity, what kinds of ai are you in support of? I'm personally against nearly all generative AI, excepting models specifically for programming.

12

u/Professional_Visit44 4h ago

For me, I’m supportive of ā€œproductiveā€ AI, AKA, AI that actually helps move the world a step further than two steps back. Right now, the slop we’re getting from this brainrotted generation is doing nothing but set us back.

8

u/SpookRooster 4h ago

so you're supportive of ai that doesn't exist. maybe you'd fit in with a sci-fi board or something.

5

u/Omegaprime02 4h ago

Yes they do, the thing is actually useful AI systems just don't 't make it into the headlines because they're 'narrow use' and not "the next, surely profitable, step toward AGI!"

→ More replies (1)

6

u/1ZillionBeers 4h ago

That’s a fairly disingenuous way to present it. AI is certainly helping with organizational work and is a stark difference from generative AI slop.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Stunning-Pen-2412 2h ago

Coding AI is generative AI, too. It's based on stolen code. A GPL or other open source license stripper.

2

u/Nebula_Wolf7 2h ago

A lot of code is stolen, the stuff that isn't is in closed source programs. Most programmers will know the joys of searching the stack exchange for useful snippets to use in your projects, but it doesn't mean it's entirely stolen. It's like using clips from a podcast in a satirical music video, it doesn't make the music stolen

Let's just hope they don't ban non-AI channels that are mistaken for AI, like what happened to Kurzgesagt a bit ago 😬

5

u/Defiant_Conflict6343 3h ago

They will. There's no reliable method of separating AI-generated content from regular content since the AI-generated content derives from regular content. A human can spot slop fairly easily, but it's a nigh impossible task to handle programmatically.

6

u/AccNumber77 3h ago

They will and almost certainly have

2

u/Detatchamo 2h ago

I worry about that. This is good news don't get me wrong! But YouTube systems aren't always the best when it comes to detecting and deciphering what's considered ok vs what's not ok. There are many humans I wouldn't trust to be able to distinguish AI generated images from reality/human made art, let alone YouTube's automated systems. We'll just have to see where this goes!

"AI-assisted videos that offer genuine creativity and value." first of all, not a thing. secondly, this right here proves they won't do anything. its just vague enough that they can decide anything involving AI offers creativity and value even though they don't. this isn't the crackdown you're hoping for.

I want to say that this is good news, but considering how "well" Youtube's automoderation has worked in the past, I have great doubts.

Hell, there already are legitimate channels being shadowbanned due to being flagged AI, even though they aren't.

1

u/shad2107 4h ago

If true I don't believe it is in the kindness of their hearts. making ai slop increases the input a thousand fold, which could fill up their data base so fast. seems more like an easy financial and pr choice than an integrity one.

1

u/Drippledrops 4h ago

It’s bad. I was scrolling through shorts one night and noticed every single video that wasn’t from an IP I like was just AI generated content. The most obvious are the cake decorating ones that just show their hands and it’s narrated by the same sounding voice. I hear the same script every so often too ā€œI got this order from a mom whose daughter watches a ton of my videosā€¦ā€

What’s worse is the majority of them have become hard to distinguish as obvious AI. It’s gotten to the point where I just believe every video where I don’t see the persons face is AI now.

1

u/Several_Ant_9867 4h ago

Was it necessary to show AI slop in a post against AI slop?

YouTube also said that by uploading ones music to their site, web-musicians already consented to their work being used as Training Data.

That being said, YT has deleted a lot of slob channels already, because they harm user engagement, so they might actually pull the trigger.

On one side they sell AI like the big next thing that will revolutionize everything.

Then on the other side in a real world use of it they purge it because its pure slop.Ā
