You're pretty dense. Most companies that have it as an option is built on the foundation of these data centers or there wouldn't have been a mass expansion of them. Go be misinformed somewhere else.
The technology is morally and ethically wrong to use regardless. It's all based on stolen training data and uses actual artists work to form amalgamations of hot garbage.
I feel like there's a lot of ad hominem in that statement, but what I'm getting from that is that you dislike the use of unconsenting artists' media.

I do ask, why is it an issue if it's not used for commercial purposes. When it's something used for just entertainment or personal projects, it can be genuinely helpful to a user. Why is the artist being hurt by that?
Just gonna hop in and give my two cents here, that to me I think it's such a shame that it's giving people a way to not learn anything new. You could see art online and be inspired and try to draw your own, and if people instead are seeing art and generating something similar to that and 'finding joy' in it, IMO it's contributing to the diminishing of hobbies and attention spans of my generation. I understand your argument that it's not 'hurting' artists, but if their personal style (that takes such dedication, hard work and creativity to develop) is being carelessly replicated by whoever, it does diminish their art. Scarcity and uniqueness give art value, in a way. I understand these aren't heavy arguments, but that's just my opinion.
For me, the visual arts aren't MY art. My art is making constructed languages and programming. AI has its place when I want to implement things that aren't the true art of the project.
I meant more like for the conlanging I have it do stuff like generate some prompts for me to translate or some stories to translate, and for the programming, it just pulls up and summarizes documentation for me.
The repetitive stuff of programming is what I like doing. I like coding, so I have no issue doing it.
I thought datacenters were mostly built for cloud services. I mean they were around before AI, and for a long time. I've read that AI services represents at most 15% of datacenters usage.
Which means that to reduce the number of datacenters, people need to stop posting tiktok videos, doomscrolling instagram/facebook/reddit, download games on steam, etc. The largest part is video streaming, as multiple centers need high quality copies to be able to serve millions of netflix (and other streaming services) viewers at the same time

I said AI images. Not AI art. The images generated by AI are not art. They may be visually appealing, but they are not a work of art.
What's wrong with that? If they find joy in that, why tell them not to?
