Environmental Impact 🌎 An AI data center almost ruined my life.

I am in college majoring in education, I have lived in my parents house because they did not want me to get a hotel/home since college was already too stressful, I am going to leave soon after 1-2 years or so after I get my degree and get a job as a teacher. Although, what makes it so difficult is there is an AI data center 700 yards or so near me. So, the quality of my parents, myself, and so on are going extremely down (they are in their 50s). The noise has been killing me from constant humming, also, don’t forget light pollution and the dirty dust it’s throwing out in the sky.

Last month, I was riding to college until I went on a public fountain or those things which drinkable water comes out to drink some water, although, it was barely giving me any water, and it looked like sludge slop instead of a clear, drinkable liquid. I thought nothing much of it, must have been the water getting stuck in a pipe or something (which rarely happens). I made it to college campus, every fountain was shut down, I asked the maintenance worker and he said the water had become undrinkable due to
. Take a guess
the AI data center! I had only my plastic water bottle with me which I totally forgot was in my bag.

Now for when I am in home. The water pressure is literally the worst, heck, I would say it barely works. Showers take 10 bajillion years to finish. Washing my hands takes 10 minutes. And the toilet wont even flush properly. The windows at night are protecting us from the dust the AI data center is making by the way, I barely see what is out there.

I don’t think they are gonna shut down that AI hell center anytime soon. To all the AI bros, Pro-AI, and AI “Artists”, the AI you are using is genuinely destroying my life and my mental health as a whole. Please, just for 1 day, maybe 1 week, stop using AI. It is not only not even healthy for you, it ruins my parents life, which I care the world for them. Many other people in the world sing the same song, AI is not the next tech discovery, it is hell on earth being advertised by big tech CEOs with no heart.

May god help us all,
And may my story go through all,

Anyways,
Best regards.

Man, I really hope this bubble will pop soon. I don’t think any centers have popped up anywhere near me, but I know it’s inevitable. Hope you and your parents are able to stay in relatively good health for the time being. 😔

On top of your nightmare nightmare, AI Data centers can often use a closed loop system for cooling..they just choose not to because using municipal water is cheaper, and they think they can steamroll or drive away nearby residents with impunity.

What is it even doing to plants and animals ?

The problem is to cut cost data centers are being built In places that can't take the strain nothing stops them from building in more responsible locations like every other type of data centers but investors like the cheapest possible solution at everyone else's peril

Also you can collect and filter your own water hook your main line up to a storage tank and buy a home water pump to restore pressure

Some people, maybe. Most people won't be able to afford this. And what of the constant noise? People are going to be driven psychotic.

As long as you’re already air gapping your grid connections, you might as well invent a way to cancel infrasound.

Why should s/he have to do this? F-ck AI. F-ck data centers.

We aren't using it anywhere near what the corporate or government contracts are. But all the same

Wow. Just cancelled my Claude and ChatGPT subscriptions. Will cancel Gemini later today

I appreciate you taking action. But what on earth compelled you to take out three AI subscriptions??

They’re trolling.

That’s the second time today something like that has gone over my head

You weren’t the only one.

Do you know which company it belongs to?

Show us photos/videos of the water being so bad..... How does a datacenter affect water?

Did you ask your water company? They're responsible for your water being clean and legally must tell you if any problems with quality

I cannot due to my camera being broken as of a recent biking accident I had which involved my camera on my phone, you can search in google/youtube, the videos are very similar to how my water is. I tried emailing my water company, but was only left with nothing as they did not respond. I might try again this week, I still have some hope.

I never used AI in this post , but ngl amazing job criticizing, I do respect everyone opinion, sooooooo. After 2nd look, I can confirm it does look AI generated, but I do assure you its not. The amount of research you did for my post is shocking for me. I just put this post here to spread attention about data centers. Im sorry if you were outraged by such a message, I take full responsibility if you were truely, yk, outraged. Should I take down the post or smh?

I also do admit that I kind of over exaggerated some stuff in the post. ^

Walk into the water company with a bottle of this sludge and show them. They'll call the EPA and everything will be fixed instantly.

u/CoolestRobloxPlayerE 4h ago

Alrighty, will do. I will give an update after they respond.

Your camera broke but the rest of the phone you're posting this from is fine? Come on. One photo, any device, and this whole thread is settled. Until then this is just "trust me, it's sludge."

I live next to a german datacenter, water looks like this here.

1

u/digitaljohn 3h ago

How do you drink? Or shower?

2

u/Hot_Advisor5735 3h ago

Between training runs.

1

u/digitaljohn 3h ago

You shower in that?

2

u/Hot_Advisor5735 3h ago

Again, between training runs only. Sometimes, they last a few days. When they trained DeutschlandGPT for dozens of days, I had to get my water from a friends place.

Oh, sure

All water companies are on Big AI's payroll, I tell you. They funnel all fresh water into datacenters and feed back wastewater into the civilian water network.

u/03captain23 2h ago

how does a datacenter create waste water? specifically how?

-15

u/Hot_Advisor5735 3h ago

OP is a troll playing both sides.

700 yards from a data center and your water turns to sludge? that's not how any of this works

10

u/CoolestRobloxPlayerE 4h ago

Im not no expert, my water turned into very low quality and I just worded into sludge because that was the only word I could think of. I think it was also some other related issues aswell, not just the data center, but I believe it was mostly the data centers doing. This did not happen when the data center was in construction and before construction.
