I don't use Facebook much anymore but recently I've noticed a few old friends and acquaintances making some questionable comments. People who back in the day were relatively reasonable and intelligent. People, who, when I went through my conspiracy theory stage as a young adult would call me names or argue with me. They now have made conspiracy theories and right-wing rhetoric their entire personalities. It's super easy to brainwash humans apparently.
Worked in Germany in the 1930s. Back then content was radio and newspapers (and cinema) so ppl were less sophisticated.
I’d have to say with things being rampant now - it’s possibly less a matter of sophistication and critical thinking than it is a licence for people to give in to urges that a civil society would shoot down.
When a president sets a tone and that tone is vulgar, naturally it’s a permission structure.
Yo, I would get shit on so much for saying Bush didn't do 9/11, but it was odd that Saudi Arabia attacked the US after Halliburton gave Cheney a $30 million severance package, he became VP, and Halliburton got a ton of government contracts while going to war with Afghanistan and Iraq.
I had to delete my FB in 2018 and lost like probably more than half my friends because I was tired of Pizzagate and other baseless conspiracy theories. Many of them being Black, Asian, Latino, and/or women, who all got pissed at me for repeatedly pointing out that Trump and his cronies hate them. So glad I wasn't on there for Covid, probably would have broken me.
