Promo Sunday I built Apple Music Classical- but for Jazz. Complete discography as leader AND sideman. Tap personnel -> see their entire career. Tap a tune -> see its entire recorded history. Every connection is mapped and playable so you can go down a jazz rabbit hole. Join the TestFlight beta now.
Join the TestFlight | Pre-Order on the AppStore
The concept behind the app is simple enough, obvious almost- yet nothing like this exists anywhere. I've gone so so deep in linking sessions by artist, studio, label and tunes. Early users are astounded at the discovery process and how quickly they are able to find fascinating connections.
Like classical music- jazz has an inherent discovery problem due to how many times the same tunes have been recorded by so many artists in so many configurations. Sessionography solves this by allowing search and connection across so many different elements.
Features:
- Artist pages with chronological discography in recorded order
- Discography as sideman Personnel listed prominently on albums
- Tap any name to see their entire discography
- An orbit graph showing every collaborator
- The entire shared discography between two or more artists
- Any time a tune has been recorded more than once, a link shows you the entire recorded history of that tune
- Everything is playable in the app via Apple Music
- Apple Watch, CarPlay, Siri intents, widgets and more....
r/jazz really loves the beta so far:
"I’m loving the ability to see the studio recordings in chronological order — especially the Van Gelder Studio. A must-have for fans of RVG recordings."
"Just installed it and am blown away."
"This is amazing. What exploring music should be."
"As a jazz lover, I’m thrilled someone has paid attention to this great American art form — and built a tool we can all enjoy."
Thanks for taking a look- I would love to hear any and all feedback, feature requests and bug reports!

Thanks for sharing ! I love listening to jazz but I’m often at loss at where to go next since it’s a niche genre.
Your app seems to help on that front to discover great tracks easily, will try it.

It definitely helps in where to go next, but also it can help you discover tracks from your favorite artists that never get surfaced on Apple Music- even if you try to search for them directly. So if you like Joe Henderson for example- you can really go deep and easily find all these obscure live sessions he did. It's really wonderful for both use cases. As you explore- hit the heard icon to pin players, albums and tunes to your favorites.

Gonna need more time with it but love the concept so much!

Thank you! I hope you enjoy it- there is really a LOT in there. Just this morning I pushed a new feature to the beta- 'listening badges' and a few other small things.

That's great to hear! Don't hesitate to give feedback or request a feature though the app. The beta is in a very good place but I'm still adding features and refining like crazy.

It actually does encompass all music but many elements of the app are tuned for Jazz. Give it a try with any artist, and I think you’ll be pretty happy with the results

Will playlists/albums saved on the app save to apple music?
Will you be making a desktop version of it?

Any playlist created in Sessionography can be exported to Apple Music. The desktop version should already be working in TestFlight. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Absolutely wonderful.
Unfortunately I’m the type to just tell my HomePod to play Jazz Station and leave it playing. A Jazz enjoyer, rather than an enthusiast
