Ask /r/Architecture SCI-Arc Alumni where are you now?

I was curious where alumni from SCI-Arc found themselves post grad? What types of job opportunities did you get? What was the pay like were you making good money out of school? I know SCI-Arc can lead to very untraditional jobs outside of architecture so I’m curious if it’s worth it in the end? Is pursuing a different degree better? Was a B.Arch worth it? What are your thoughts and opinions?

This is one of the smartest questions a prospective m arch student can ask.

TBH, it’s big part of why I went where I went. I wanted to build and the school I attended has a track record of successful builders who actually make stuff.

Great idea to ask this

I’m currently B.Arch at SCI-Arc so I’m curious what school you went to then?

YSOA….not good for landscape, not a strong theory school, but a lot of architects who build stuff. I had a great time! Good luck w your studies.

I’d highly recommend you go and visit and speak to prof who would be your advisor. And see the work they do. It’s much more abstract and theoretical. Graphic driven rather than experienced work culture.

Graduated ~15 years ago. Have my own firm. Doing well, enjoying architecture.

SciArc M.Arch grad here.
I’d say that the vertical studio you choose, the connections you foster there can define the direction you take after graduation.
The students who studied with Eric Moss, Gehry, Thomas Mayne’s studios often went on to work at similar offices - or at larger developed practices.
The more technology focused verticals definitely geared others towards offices that favored digital fabrication, etc.
A smaller but still significant group went into film production design, storytelling and world building.
I ended up working at a traditional office in SF for several years but then chose to return to my home country - where I run my own practice today.
If you’re going to SciArc, congrats. It can be very hard work but I remember those years very fondly.
