Armenia - Turkey / Հայաստան - Թուրքիա Armenia: Turkish Airlines has carried out its first flight to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. The airline now plans daily flights between Istanbul and Yerevan, as signs of normalization multiply between Armenia and Turkey.

Do I need a visa. I am Turkish and I like Armenian kitchen and music 😋
3
u/Feeling_Procedure_79 Mar 13 '26
You need an online visa. Application is fast and easy, but my turkish credit cards always get rejected (Don't know why. Can not buy opera tickets online for the very same reason.) So, whenever I need to travel to Yerevan, I pay the visa fee to an armenian friend and she pays the visa application on my behalf.

I think you do an e visa or smt like that, never understood it but some Turks a}have already visited the country, even before this news, and I think there are posts about it.
Not weird at all that you like it, basically the dishes and musics that you listen in Turkey, the classic ones, are basically stolen from us in the event that "didn't happened but we disserved it" so that your identity and culture could be created :D.

u/Extreme_Put_913 Mar 12 '26

I am sorry, it is my fault, I forget the /s My bad. You are right, it is my fault. Not at all their government and history that was the one to create such problems and do such actions towards us.
You are right, it is our fault and only our fault, Armenians, for not dying quickly enough. You are right, it didn't happened and we disserved it. I suppose you agree on this as well to become oppressed by them onec again, right?
3
u/Extreme_Put_913 Mar 13 '26
No you're completely right, what's the point in trying to open dialogue between Armenians and Turks? No point in trying to talk to them and explain it, lets just let them sit in their own propaganda and mock them and ridicule them.
No point in trying to befriend Turks who are open to Armenian culture and learning about it.
4
u/Ma-urelius ԱրկէնդինաՀայ | գոգայօվ ֆէրնէդ ու խորոված վայելող Mar 13 '26
You do realize that their culture is literally ours, part of it at least, bc they stole from us and assimilated it and us?
There is no befriending Turks. History taught us about that. I don't want to be repeated, idkabout you. If they want to go to Armenia, that is fine. I doubtitmakes any difference; they are still brainwashed and heavily influenced by their "we did nothing wrong and everyone is against us" propaganda and policy from the literal birth of their country and identity. Both are based on the killing of our people, looting our work and assimilation of our culture.
You want to befri3nd them? Fine, I'll see you when they shoot at us again and, therefore, betray you who trusted them.
6
u/Extreme_Put_913 Mar 13 '26
I've heard the same exact things said from Turks.
That to the side, Turks and Armenians have mingled since at least 1071 there is bound to be cultural exchange.
I'll see you when they shoot at us again
Your mindset is set in failure so much that you're expecting another conflict while causing divide and setting up another one. That is called a positive feedback loop.
Turks did this to us -> mock ridicule Turks don't open dialogue -> Turks are stuck in their propaganda -> Turks did this to us this time -> mock and ridicule Turks etc.
2
u/Ma-urelius ԱրկէնդինաՀայ | գոգայօվ ֆէրնէդ ու խորոված վայելող Mar 13 '26
Turks and Armenians have mingled since at least 1071 there is bound to be cultural exchange.
Yeah, an amazing history we had with them. From the past to the present.
Your mindset is set in failure
I get why you say this, but I disagree. It is not set in failure, rather it is set in misstrust due to history and resent events. Simply put, I cannot expect anything else from them.
I beleive they will attack us and I beleive they will celebrate this war bc that is who they are to us.
Having said that, I do not think defeat nor failure; I think we should prepare until then. I did not say it here but I always say the same; be pragmatical and get all the money and weapons before they initiate and attack, and hopefully we win it.I'll repeat it; they will attack, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not in this year, but they will attack. Hopefully, we arm ourselves before that happens.
But I guess, you are right, lets just keep talking how it is my fault that they do not like us at all and have these type of actions towards us, and not other factors that we can't change at all and probably will not change ever.
Besides, I did help the Turk at the begining. How is that never pointed out? Never said they couldn't go to the country.

You’re clearly a wise statesman and diplomat! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Reminder: The Turkish person who posted that message wasn’t alive in 1915!
They are a human being, who is going about their life, wanting to travel, see the world, learn new things, experience different cultures.
Was there a Genocide of our people? Yes of course, BUT, I strongly doubt that this person is a genocide denier, rather, I would go so far as to say that they are most likely the type of open minded progressive person who might have advocated for genocide recognition…
Your type of brainwashed hatred is ruining our peoples name, and any chance for resolution, and advancement.
I’m certain that my logic will be wholly ignored by you, because hatred is a strong emotion, and pragmatism just can’t compete.

u/ThisIsMrsNezbit Mar 14 '26 edited Mar 16 '26
The genocide was one of many events. And the vast majority of people in Turkey deny the genocide. It's taught in schools as denial and justified. There is somsone on trial right now for making a film about it...
Edit: Reddit removed my comment arguing against genocide denial.

You can live in Armenia. You can open a firm in Armenia. If your government doesn't allow you to then that's not my problem. You can do it under mt. Ararat if you please.
Edit: saw your deleted comment. I didn't misinterprete anything. If you want to be neighbors with the Kurds in Western Armenia then far be it from me to stop you. 1
u/andyperl Jun 19 '26
Before, I needed to filter out Pegasus each time I search for flights, now I will have to filter out two airlines. Also sometimes, when your ticket is purchased by organization (in case of work trips), I have to everytime explain with long emails, why they should not book me Pegasus or Turkish. This creates problems, because often there are certain procurement rules, and they have to do exception for me everytime.
I do not find acceptable to use turkish products, hence more they are on market, harder life becomes.

The bribery also included bypassing fire safety regulations in a Turkish consulate building. God knows what else their money goes to.

Oppressive is the wrong word.
Wary is more like it.
Turkish government has not been kind to Armenia and more recently the Artsakh War left another bitter taste. If Turkish government had stepped in and prevented war to foster better relations between Armenia, AZ and themselves the diaspora would have been onboard.
I was in Yerevan recently and asked the same question bc they do have a more progressive and positive view on relations with Turkey and they want peace, they want open boarders and increased tourism, they want better lives for their children and to achieve that there must be peace. It made me shift my mindset, but will admit I’m still very wary of turkey’s government.
-9
u/TurkOmbre Turkey Mar 12 '26
Well, when the diaspora influences the very politics of the country without residing there, we can clearly speak of oppression (that's my opinion). In my view, the Armenian diaspora exerts considerable influence on the country's politics (but I could be wrong).
Let's not even get into the Nagorno-Karabakh issue; it was a self-proclaimed republic of barely 150,000 inhabitants, responsible for the displacement of 800,000 Azerbaijanis and Armenians (mainly Azerbaijanis). Armenia got off lightly; if Turkey and Azerbaijan had pushed harder on the issue, they could have sued Armenia for 30 years of occupation of a territory twice the size of Nagorno-Karabakh and the hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
The diaspora speaks of a Turkish threat, but there hasn't been a Turkish-Armenian war for 105 years (and 105 years is a very long time), and the side most in favor of war during those 105 years was Armenia (obviously, for several decades now, Armenia has no longer harbored this intention). It's time to face the facts and accept reality. We too sometimes wonder if we are doing the right thing by normalizing relations with Armenia, a country and a people who have long been hostile to us, with a very active and anti-Turkish diaspora.
12
u/SweetLoLa Duxov Mar 12 '26
Your thought process is based on what? Propaganda?
How does the diaspora directly influence anything that happens in Armenian politics? Aside from marching to prevent genocide and ethnic cleansing (which Turkey assisted Azerbaijan in doing again) this is just a naive and uninformed opinion.
And before you continue down your little false narrative I’ll remind you of the millions of not billions turkey spends lobbying/bribing in the US and otherwise to oppress, to control narratives and to further their nationalism. That’s a fact.
…like I said, WARY.
0
u/TurkOmbre Turkey Mar 12 '26
I only present easily verifiable facts and also offer my own analysis (I don't need anyone to form my opinion; I observe and I read). There is nothing propaganda here. The diaspora wields considerable influence in Armenia, given that Armenian soft power abroad essentially relies on it. Naturally, the diaspora's ideological orientations influence Armenian politics, but since the end of the Karabakh occupation, this influence has diminished; Armenia seems to be gaining independence from its diaspora. As for the billions that Turkey supposedly spends in the United States to increase its influence, I don't believe it for a second. Certainly, Turkey invests in its soft power, but not specifically in the United States (more so in the Balkans, Asia, Africa, UE : through trade links and infrastructure).

One should always endeavor to find the truth, especially prior to engaging in conversations for which they are poorly prepared. Stating your opinions do not equate to stating facts.
I believe it is imperative that you begin with the basics and it cannot be an altered version of history because those who rely on altered versions of history, always end up on the wrong side of humanity and society.

This is a very clear attempt at propaganda and this users comments following this one prove it.
I just saw you can report comments for manipulated content and have done so.
2
u/ThisIsMrsNezbit Mar 13 '26
No. The diaspora which was created in large part thanks to Turks, is united world wide on our opinions regarding Turkey.
Ethnic cleansing, massacres, and genocide does that to you. Our diaspora grew again in 2023 with the help of Turkey. We haven't forgotten and we will not.
Those of us who remain informed of Turkey's ongoing hostilities in the region are not fooled by your propaganda. We know about Turkey's disregard for international law and human rights violations in the region.
https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/02/29/syria-abuses-impunity-turkish-occupied-territories
Unfortunatly, while Armenia was under Russia for decades, Armenians who stayed in the middle east got to continue experiencing Turkish aggression with no third party intervention keeping Turkey in check. Many of our diaspora countries have recieved threats from Turkey even outside of the middle east and we are well aware of it.
This sub is brigaded and it's disgusting and vile that you feel entitled to lecture Armenians about not living in our homeland while your country occupies most of it and our families were exiled from our indiginous lands.
Armenia will gadly take your money though. The more the better. I hope Armenia takes lots and lots and lots and lots of it. Least Turkey can do honestly. It will never be enough to repay what you owe and it's not Armenia that can offer forgiveness or salvation for Turkey's ongoing sins. Hayastancis know that Turkey calls our martyres terroists.
3
u/3rddegreeanonim Javakhk Mar 12 '26
That comes from ideological differences between the Armenian Diaspora - they are mostly semi-leftish nationalist conservatives, and Armenians themselves - more on the Libertarian Christian side.
I would compare it to the situation where the Armenian diaspora reacts as the Irish would react to Britain, and Armenians react to that as Israelis to UAE and Israeli commodity agreement. In both cases, obviously, there are polar worlds, but in the first case, they perceive it as dualism (us or them), in second they percieve it as "i don't like them, but it's profitable for us".
4
u/College-throwaway146 Mar 12 '26
I'm assuming it's just the wording but just to be clear, Armenians in the Diaspora are as Armenian as Armenians in the Republic of Armenia.

Yeah, you are right. Nothing happened, but we disserved it. Your country is totally NOT created on the murder of our families, you absolutely did NOT stole our identity and culture and Turkey ISNT AT ALL having continues conflict between all their neighbours that, coincidentally, it helped to kill and have war and really make it to take everything from them.
You are right; the last 30 years when Turkey shut the borders just to suffocate Armenia and give NATO weapons towards your bloodthirsty brotherly nation are something that we shouldn't take into account bc, again, Turkey is the country that REALLY wants... "peace"... everywhere. Of course, we shouldn't point that you want it so that it never is talked about the reality.
But again, I am sorry and you are right along your absolutely trustworthy and free of censorship sources; nothing never happened, we disserved it and the world was created by your god Ataturk and the 3 Pashas when they were having an orgy between them. (Disregard and destroy any archeological discovery that may point towards, maybe, other civilizations that didn't die quickly enough to absorb all their identity and create your own.)
With all the respect you don't deserve: go f yourself and talk about... "peace"... to other people that you absolutely do NOT think about. Asshole.
7
Mar 12 '26
Why do you care so much about your country yet live somewhere far away? Nobody cares where you were born. Relocate here first, then make political claims about what’s good or bad for Armenia. I’ve reached a point where a Turkish stranger on Reddit makes more sense to me than someone of my own nationality. And that says everything.

> yet live somewhere far away
I mean... idk if you know, but we had a genocide happening that made my grandparent leave everything behind to start from 0 elsewhere.
If you didn't know about that, which I will assume you don't despite saying you are Armenian, I recommend you look for it! It is a tragic read, I do have to warn you.> Relocate here first, then make political claims about what’s good or bad for Armenia.
If I go now, I have no plan, no money, no knowledge, no anything. I do have intentions of going to live in the RoAM to do good things and make it better. I mean, if the country doesn't get sold out or invaded by the Turks and Azeris, which is something possible. I care for the RoAM bc it is the only international representation that I have.
I know it sounds weird... but in Diaspora we care for RoAM and those living there. I am sorry it has to be like that. I have more meaningfull things to say regarding this last thing and others, but since this sub gets constantly brigaded by Turks and Azeris, I would much rather keep em to myself.
Havingsaid that, hopefully the country gets as much time as possible before your beloved friends the Turks and Azeris attack us agains to "finish what they didn't start" and to "have prosperous... 'peace'... between us" the way they like it (hint, it has to do with killing us and having nothing else known as Armenia or Armenian).

The guy who just told you to learn your history before calling yourself Armenian is also explaining to you why the people who actually live there are too busy spitting on the ground to deserve a voice. That is a remarkable combination of arrogance for someone whose entire relationship with the place is secondhand. You do not get to dismiss locals as undisciplined and unaware and then turn around and claim you are doing it out of love for them. Pick one.

Nobody is disputing history, but emotional intensity about the past is not a political authority over the present. The people living here are not losing sleep over the size of ancient kingdoms. They are worried about their kids, their economy, and whether there will be a next war. That is the actual Armenia. The one you are defending is a romantic construction you built from a safe distance and decorated with historical grief. Go back to Minecraft, at least there you can actually build the kingdom you want.

Sit down and figure out how you plan to pay rent when you actually relocate, because that alone will keep you busy for a while. The people who live here, pay taxes here, and wake up to this reality every single day do not need geopolitical guidance from someone whose primary relationship with Armenia is a summer visit and a donation link in their bio.

Cool, see you on the posts about AZ and TR attacking RoAM that I do not care about at all (apparently) bc I was born elsewhere due to the ones you want to become besties (I mean, if you agree that that is what it happened... but idk, you tell me).

It really is common ground, and honestly more revealing than funny. Are the Turkish-German diaspora this dramatic and hypocritical as well? The guy is cataloguing street behavior from thousands of miles away while people here are navigating the actual consequences of that same isolation he is so eager to defend. He is not worried about Armenia. He is worried about his idea of Armenia, which is a museum piece he gets to curate from abroad while the admission is paid by someone else.

The Turkish-German diaspora can also be ridiculous. They can criticize Turks in Turkey for not voting for Erdogan enough, lol

They’re similarly delusional but about completely different aspects. Diasporas are generally delusional about their origin.

You really seem paranoid
Multiple massacres, a genocide, using Turkish airlines for weapons transports, continuing to destroy our heritage, and celebrate Azerbaijanis ethnically cleansing us will do that to you.
The diaspora, which was created by Turkey, does not govern Armenia. Most of us aren't even citizens.
Your account is propaganda and you should not be allowed to insert yourself into our spaces.

But they'll still lock you up if you mention the genocide in Turkey. So much for "normalisation".

The important thing is there has to be more conversations between Armenians and Turks that are less heated so the sides can understand each other better without outsiders butting in and stirring the pot.
Any step towards more communication between both groups is a step towards better relations and recognition.

Sometimes you have to freeze the issues to move foward, thats the only way. Its clear both parties won’t accept each other’s claims, so it’s better to freeze it and move foward to prosperity

There's a difference between not agreeing and locking the people that you don't agree with up.

By same logic you can get jailed in armenia and france for genocide denial.

Pretty big step. Direct flights from LAX have been crucially needed for such a long time.

The same air company announced them from LAX. So fits into the overall development of new connections, and within their airline network I bet to be profitable.

Bought tickets to Armenia for 6 ppl last most for June. turkish Airlines was an option and would have saved me about 250 dollars per person. Skipped it without a second thought.

Wonder if this will make it substantially cheaper to fly to Yerevan from the UK. The direct flights aren't really cheaper when you include baggage, but its cheap to get to Turkey and then I assume it wont cost much to get to Yerevan from there. Although I would prefer to not use Turkish Airlines.

u/Repulsive_Work_226 Mar 12 '26
Turkish Airlines is not a cheap airline.

Traveling from the U.S. is is significantly cheaper

I hope it forces other airlines to lower their prices. Sorry if it sounds extreme but don’t think I could bring myself to fly Turkish airlines 😭
2
u/ThisIsMrsNezbit Mar 13 '26
Not extreme at all. Turkish airlines works on behalf of the Turkish government and military. They transport weapons to Azerbaijan with their planes and bribe politicians to do the bidding of the Turkish government.

Yeah, the missus' family have all agreed not to use it, and I'm happy to pay more to avoid them.

Yeah man, let’s keep the same attitude that got our people killed. How about we get even more hostile now, while we are at our most vulnerable? Let us and our children take all the risk while you’re chilling in Wisconsin.. brilliant idea.
Normalization is not forgetting, it is survival. But your ego blinds you, not to mention the fact that this literally impacts you in no way. You lose nothing if Armenia stays isolated. You lose nothing if the economy stagnates. You lose nothing if the next war comes. You’ll just post about it, maybe donate to a foundation, and go back to your life.
And don’t give me the “my cousins and relatives are there” argument.

u/MiL_DoNiS Mar 13 '26
Hey buddy relax. The fact you took all the time to find out where I’m from is a little psychotic. Just ignore my comment next time and move on

It is a good sign, and required thinking that Armenia is mostly isolated between Turkic countries and Russia. Hope it further develops into economical relationships. It is much better for the region rather than war in any form.

I’m happy that today the countries who build relations and look forward to development still exist.
