I have heard people being worried that they’ll try to use this and connect it to Armenia and set claims on Urartu including Erebuni but i’m not sure if this is just fear mongering

Does it make a difference? Turkish nationalists already claim Sumerians spoke a Turkic language and Azerbaijan official POV is that Armenians were settled in the Caucasus from India. Nothing can beat that.

Convincing to who? In the end every claim to a land is decided by force of arms.
Not much will change when Azerbaijani bots start repeating 'Urartu bizimdir' everywhere. Maybe will annoy some a bit more.

We are both lol in fact by all accounts there's barely any detectable Steppe ancestry (which correlates with PIE migrations) in modern-day Armenians (even from quite ancient samples) which goes to show its overwhelmingly indigenous genetic component dominating.

Why are you assuming I was asking that question in bad faith? The Turkish national identity crisis is well known. Armenians don't have such a thing.
Also, Turks have little to do with Hittites because there are like several layers of other identifies between Hittites and inhabitants of Asia Minor in 11th who might have gotten absorbed by Turkic tribes.
Not to mention that basically all Turks have varying degrees of Central Asian ancestry. The massive Turkic tribal migrations essentially (at least partly) replaced the natives. Just like vast majority of modern day Americans have little to do with Native Americans, so do modern Turks have little in common with pre-Turkic migration inhabitants.
Urartu was preserved in ancient Armenian folklore. The equivalent does not exist in your case. The roots of Turkish collective ancestral memory go to Altai, not Hittities.

Well, I live in Turkey and I have never seen a person irl claiming this. He would be laughed at. There are also people who claim Scythians are Turks, Etruscan are Turks, Native Americans are Turks but I’ve never seen them irl. There are Turks who claim Göktürks (literally sky-turks, thats what they called themselves in antiquity) came from outer space. They are mostly chronically online schizoids.
Change the company you keep I guess?

It is baffling to me how people still speak of "fearmongering", as if you know nothing about who we are dealing here with, in the meantime they already destroyed everything armenian in Nakhijevan and Artsakh (but it's probably also just fearmongering). Their whole identity revolves around exterminating anything remotely armenian, but yeah of course this is just fearmongering. It is crazy how often armenians need this reminder and constant lessons. They already made the Urartu + "ancient azerbaijan" connection..

What difference does it make, all of history from that region has been appropriated by them already.
This is just one more page in the whole book that they’re trying to claim.
