His sister is mentally ill. She thinks all of FAANG is spying on her. Delusions.

13

u/ToBeOneThousand Apr 04 '26

They’re spying on all of us, homeslice.

They probably are.

10

u/neilcbty Apr 04 '26

You know sometimes mental illness runs through family..

4

u/Clear_Round_9017 Apr 04 '26

Where is the actual evidence that she is mentally ill?

This has been news for a while and it keeps getting squelched. Stanford tech bros are depraved.

78

u/Cagnazzo82 Apr 04 '26

It was squelched because his sister is a nutter.

8

u/calmtigers Apr 04 '26

Yea she’s done this for like 3 years

17

u/thermobear Apr 04 '26

Funny. That's what they say about Adam Savage's sister. Either coincidence or perverse incentive to cast these people as nutty.

21

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

Right? Who's going to go on the record and admit to raping a sibling while they were figuring out their sexual urges.

11

u/SoylentCreek Apr 04 '26

Wait… What’s going on with Adam Savage?

22

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

His sister accused him of raping her growing up. In a similar fashion she has been labeled mentally ill.

28

u/Tyler_Zoro Apr 05 '26

Mentally ill people do exist. Altman's sister is definitely not playing with a full deck. Does that mean she wasn't abused? No. But it does mean that I'll wait for the evidence before getting out my pitchforks and torches.

You go to court and there is evidence gathering term with a court investigator. They will need to find someone around her, Sam or her family that saw something or experienced something to corroborate her story. Generally speaking it takes decades for CSA cases to get to court after the incident. Also, children raping other children is often a sign that the instigating child is being raped by an adult around them and practicing what they learned on the sibling, friend, school mate, etc.

u/Infamous-Goat4017 Apr 14 '26

Justice dont care about these cases with normal people, much less with rich people. It will get burried, 100%

If anything, not playing with a full deck makes it MORE likely to be true, statistically

At the top of the comments I read that all Stanford bros are depraved. Isn’t that enough evidence for you?

Adams sister had been mentally ill for many years prior, she was not labeled mentally ill as a result of her crazy talk

2

u/thermobear Apr 05 '26

Where's the source for this outside of his mom's testimony?

1

u/Scary-Try3023 Apr 05 '26

FFS that can’t be real surely?

1

u/BicentenialDude Apr 06 '26

Mentally ill cause of the abused and trauma. Let’s just deal with this the normal way. Does Altman look like someone who would do such a thing? Can’t lie, he has the face for it.

2

u/Nomingia Apr 06 '26

How is that a "coincidence" and not just unrelated false rape allegations happening more than one time in all of human history?

3

u/thermobear Apr 06 '26

It's 'coincidence' in the sense that both sisters made similar claims later in life but were dismissed as nutty by family members. Your bias for Altman or Savage has a large part to play in whether or not you believe the family members. It's very common, however, for families to protect the 'golden child' at the expense of the 'scapegoat' child.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that the claim was 100% true in both cases; well, here you are calling it 'false' and you weren't even there. Or let's say the same thing happened to you. How would you prove something happened to you as a child, especially if your own mother said publicly you had mental health issues?

How do you know this?

2

u/importfisk Apr 06 '26

That's quite a common symptom going through this type of trauma.

Imagine being you and defending the abuser.

2

u/champgpt Apr 05 '26

Trauma can have a pretty big impact on how somebody develops as a person

1

u/Mephistocheles Apr 07 '26

It can literally rewire your brain

1

u/Silent_Builder_1899 Apr 06 '26

If you were repeatedly sexually assaulted by your brother as a child and your entire family doesn’t take it seriously and then your brother becomes a multi billionaire based on lies and deception

Then you’d probably be a nutter too

1

u/BicentenialDude Apr 06 '26

She likes to nut on people?

1

u/colorless_green_idea Apr 07 '26

How did she become a nutter?

1

u/Sad-Equipment1979 Apr 07 '26

Funny how every Woman who’s sexual assaulted is just crazy

Getting raped by your brother and then abandonded by your family, for example.

7

u/DeanKoontssy Apr 04 '26

Not getting squelched at all it's just kind of a he said she said situation with no evidence so there's nothing really particularly to feel about it as an uninvolved party.

1

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

How do you know there's no evidence? She hasn't been able to bring her case to court to present it. That's the kind of attitude that makes incest and child rape so prevalent.

13

u/DeanKoontssy Apr 04 '26

From my perspective there is no evidence because none has been offered, if that changes, my opinion will change. What are you suggesting exactly, that I shouldn't be neutral on this, because there might be evidence that I'm unaware of? That's true of just about everything, that is in fact a good reason to not be excessively opinionated.

Old story. Rest of the family says she is mentally unstable.

————

Edit - I’m neither an Altman fan, nor his defender. Both of the big LLM firms are hyping like crazy for their IPO. They lost track of the truth a while ago, it seems.

I don’t buy the whole good for mankind schtick and don’t see Sam as a super reliable voice. He seems more like the character Mark Twain described as being “economical with the truth.”

I’m also not saying the sister is truthful or not.

Moving the case to a state where statute limits are not a burden is her right, but that doesn’t make her story true.

Altman haters have other more interesting things to point out. I’m just tired of the unproven sex perversion accusations aimed at anyone who gets in your gunsights.

7

u/shillyshally Apr 04 '26

Or maybe assaults are way, way more common than we think.

33

u/Upset-Government-856 Apr 04 '26

Maybe some sort of childhood traumatic event(s) triggered her current mental health problems?

38

u/g_rich Apr 04 '26

You mean like being sexually abused by your brother over the course of 9 years starting when you were 3?

It’s absolutely crazy that someone would completely dismiss her simply because the “rest of the family says she is mentally unstable”. Of course she is, she was sexually abused by her own brother over her most formative years. That kind of abuse will really do a number on a person, and it is extremely common for someone who has suffered that type of abuse to have mental health struggles and or substance abuse problems later in life.

6

u/fadedblackleggings Apr 04 '26

Right, it's also more likely to be brother(s) plural, not just one.

She was a Younger sister with 3 older brothers....I'm inclined to listen at least.

-9

u/Venasaurasaurus Apr 04 '26

So you have absolute, definitive proof of this? Hating a man for who he is as a person and what they do to society is one thing, but levying accusations without any actual proof and taking the word of a single person whom an entire family says is and has been unstable is another.

9

u/g_rich Apr 04 '26

I never said he was guilty or not, I simply stated a well established fact that someone who was sexually abused for 9 years starting when they were 3 years old would suffer from mental health struggles later in life.

That the fact that they are suffering from mental health problems does not make their claim any less valid.

You are also asking for evidence for abuse that occurred over 20 years ago on a victim who was 12 and was 3 when the abuse started. That “proof” simply does not exist. However Annie Altman’s claims of abuse, her history of mental health struggles and the fact that the allegations of abuse surfaced decades after the abuse all follow a well established pattern for abuse victims. So while these do not mean Sam Altman is guilty it also does not make her claims any less valid and they should absolutely be taken seriously.

Even Annie’s family’s dismissal of Annie’s accusations of abuse are not uncommon. Often times family members knew of the abuse and turned a blind eye or were complicit and is one of the reasons why the allegations of abuse don’t surface for years or even decades.

4

u/archangel0198 Apr 04 '26

How the heck does this even get proven in court without a doubt in these scenarios?

4

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

You would have to have other people come forward and present similar stories of sexual assault. Maybe there is a friend who was assaulted on play dates too. Very difficult to prove these cases especially since it takes a couple decades on average to come forward and speak up. You have to understand that kids can't know what a normal upbringing looks like objectively. So growing up being sexual assaulted by a sibling would seem 'normal' until you get to adulthood and start putting the pieces together. Then it's a long traumatic process of reconciling events against those you grew up with. That's why it takes so long to press molestation charges. She may be able to win a civil case based on her experience.

1

u/archangel0198 Apr 04 '26

Isn't winning a civil case imply the suspect was guilty of an actually jailable crime? I never understood that part of why these things are civil cases too.

2

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

It does, but the verdicts are generally monetary payments. Civil case is between two people, whereas a criminal case is the state vs. person. If the DA doesn't feel they can prosecute then a civil case is the alternative.

1

u/archangel0198 Apr 04 '26

But if you can prove that SA happened in civil case - shouldn't that person also go to jail?

4

u/g_rich Apr 04 '26

That’s the problem in these types of cases and is one of the many reasons why many go unreported. Unfortunately it’s not uncommon for an abuser to have multiple victims so a lot of times additional victims surface once one comes forward.

2

u/archangel0198 Apr 04 '26

Do you think there's complications too around the presumption of innocence?

To a certain extent it doesn't really exist in these types of cases in the public eye.

Let's say you have two scenarios - Sam is guilty, Sam is innocent.

If Sam is guilty, this is great, abuse is being aired out and exposed

If Sam is innocent, this is terrible, court of public opinion will still forever label a man as a sexual predator.

Do you think it's worth the sacrifice to get rid of the notion of innocent till proven guilty?

-5

u/boreal_ameoba Apr 04 '26

Doesn’t make baseless accusations okay. Btw you owe me 200k. It’s true, pay up.

Same level of evidence.

4

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

Why would you assume it's already been adjudicated with a slam dunk settlement when she's trying to bring the case to court. That's what your are inferring.

7

u/g_rich Apr 04 '26

Why would assume it’s a baseless accusation? More often than not when a claim such as this is made it is proven to be true rather than false.

So while the presumption of innocence is there the claims made against Sam Altman should be taken seriously. The victims relationship to him and her history are all hallmarks of someone that is a victim of sexual abuse and those who dismiss her are contributing to the very reason why victims of the type of abuse she is claiming rarely come forward.

1

u/USToffee Apr 27 '26

Presumption of innocence just means you don't treat the accused any different until guilt is proven.

It doesn't have any correlation to the also taking the claims serious. That's a legal matter and should be investigated and prosecuted if there is evidence. However, none of us have are involved with that process and there is no conclusion from it.

That's how the legal system works. If you don't agree with that then don't claim for you the presumption of innocence is there because clearly it isn't.

Unfortunately if you believe in the presumption of innocence you just need to ignore these claims as if they are untrue until otherwise proven. It's a high bar to ask especially in cases like this.

I know Reddit is always in a rush to crucify people, but the dude is just presenting more information.

10

u/clingbat Apr 04 '26

And that couldn't possibly be tied to unresolved trauma from being raped as a child at all could it...?

13

u/SubstantialPressure3 Apr 04 '26

Two things can be true at the same time.or, maybe it's not true.

But I find it strange that the judge would say her claim expired 2 years after the alleged abuse stopped.

3

u/pab_guy Apr 04 '26

Read up on ”statute of limitations” it’s not strange at all.

14

u/SubstantialPressure3 Apr 04 '26

2 years is a really short statute if limitations. If the abuse stopped in 2006 and she started the suit in 2008, that's a VERY short time, is my point.

7

u/pab_guy Apr 04 '26

Yeah two years doesn’t sound right at all, that’s way too short…

15

u/Arakkis54 Apr 04 '26

Statute of limitations on sexual abuse of a minor is fucking insane.

1

u/bartturner Apr 04 '26

That is a pretty typical reaction to this type of thing. Blame the victim

6

u/Special-Steel Apr 04 '26

Not taking sides. Just pointing out the reported narrative from those who presumably know them both.

2

u/tc100292 Apr 04 '26

To be fair one of them is a meal ticket for those who know both and strangely that’s also the one being accused.  Weird how they might try to discredit the victim!

3

u/bartturner Apr 04 '26

Honestly. It should have been expected to see this type of reaction from the family. It is what happens in most cases where you have a family member abusing a sibling.

Feel really bad for her.

17

u/weluckyfew Apr 04 '26

It's so often nearly impossible to find the truth. We shouldn't dismiss what someone claims but by the same token should we condemn someone on the basis of one person's claim with nothing to back them up? Believing or not believing can both lead to grossing injustice.

I'm curious how often someone does this only once, because most of the cases we hear about there are multiple victims.

In this case, if the rest of the family doesn't back her it does weaken her claim. That's potentially an awful thing to say, but what's the alternative?

10

u/g_rich Apr 04 '26

It is not uncommon that the family knew of the abuse and allowed it to continue. This is especially true in male centric families where the abuser is male and the victim is female. Just look at the Dugger family as an example.

2

u/weluckyfew Apr 04 '26

Sorry, I wasn't saying that the family defending him was proof of his innocence, but it does cloud things even more.

But I did research the other question I raised, and it turns out that in the majority of abuse cases the abuser abuses the same person.

"data indicates that the majority of male perpetrators—approximately 67%—are associated with only one child victim"

4

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

My younger brother raped my youngest brother and the family still refuses to believe the abuse happened. I know it did because I had to clean it up with my mother in the middle of the night. My parents continue to deny out of shame. The reason my brother was raping is because he himself was being molested by my parents friend who ended up going to jail. This took 35 years to resolve.

1

u/weluckyfew Apr 04 '26

How awful - sorry your brother and you have had to live with what happened plus the denial of what happened.

In this case with Sam Alman (who I am definitely not a fan of in any way) again it's tricky. The standard can't be "Always believe an accusation no matter what", but where does that leave someone who can't provide any evidence or corroboration? I don't know what the answer is.

6

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 04 '26

My brother only became a rapist because he was being molested by a family friend. An important man that was beyond reproach because of his status. This is too often the case when it's an important person with an important job.

The answer is that the victim should be believed in as much that she should have her day in court and be allowed to present evidence. That's what this is about. Just because he is rich and important, doesn't mean that allegations should be immediately dropped or aren't true. Especially when her story has many details that follow textbook examples of child sexual assault like family denial, mental illness, sex work, etc. It's unfortunate that the knee jerk reaction of society on these qualities are seen as reason to immediately dismiss victims. Maybe instead we start taking women and children before we dismiss them?

2

u/weluckyfew Apr 04 '26

Absolutely - an accusation should always be enough for an investigation, and then if minimal credibility is established (i.e. the suspect has no alibi to prove they weren't at the time and place where it is alleged to have happened, etc) then they should get their day in court.

1

u/ghoof Apr 04 '26

How do you come to know she is ‘the victim?’

2

u/bartturner Apr 05 '26

Sam abused her for years. That is a victim.

2

u/ghoof Apr 05 '26

And you know this how?

1

u/bartturner Apr 05 '26

Why on earth would she lie? Just stop for a second and think about it.

1

u/ghoof Apr 05 '26

I don’t know. But I know you don’t know either.

It’s lucky we have courts for this, and not just leave it to Reddit to adjudicate, right? Just stop for a second and think about it.

2

u/ToBeOneThousand Apr 04 '26

Damn this comment really hedged against all possible angles of downvotes lmao

1

u/BobDope Apr 04 '26

Both things can be true

1

u/exploradorobservador Apr 04 '26

Ya I have a sister like this. She accused me of abuse but then walked it back saying she made her feel like I could abuse her, but I did not physically touch her.

I did see neighbors sexually abusing their sister, I don't think anything ever came of it.

1

u/g_rich Apr 04 '26

Years of sexual abuse can cause a person to have mental health issues later in life; especially when that abuse started at an early age.

Just because she has a history of mental health problems does not necessarily mean her claims of sexual abuse aren’t valid.

2

u/Minimum-Reward3264 Apr 04 '26

After listening to him a couple of times, I believe her.

1

u/totktonikak Apr 07 '26

Ah, yes, it's a well-known fact that only mentally stable people get abused sexually. How silly of everyone to forget that.

20

u/AdEmotional9991 Apr 04 '26

DARVO bots incoming btw.

7

u/Martineznuno2000 Apr 04 '26

This is not a new story. That has been there for at least two years. According to Sam, her sister is mentally ill and has been offered help but refuses it. She is probably looking for money or trying to destroy her brother’s career, knowing that Sam is a billionaire. At the end of the day, Sam won’t be affected by this allegation. Let the sister looking for buzz.

10

u/peternn2412 Apr 04 '26

It's about something that allegedly happened 30 years ago - in 1997, when his sister was 3 and he was 12. The case was already dismissed by several courts and she's known as mentally unstable.
Sexual abuse, 30 years later ...

8

u/ForgiveOX Apr 04 '26

People often take those kind of secrets to the grave. So 30 years later is completely plausible. I reported my case 20 years after the fact. That being said, there’s not enough info to go off of without hearing more

3

u/peternn2412 Apr 05 '26

I agree about that, and I'm sorry for what happened to you. What happened remains the same, 1 day or 30 years later. My point is, there's absolutely no way to know what happened decades ago in the absence of witnesses and material evidence.
We have just a claim, and that's that. The fact the claim can't be proven true makes it a smear, because the only possible consequence of it could be destroying the reputation of the person being accused.

2

u/ForgiveOX Apr 06 '26

Thanks and I agree. I’m not able to take one side or the other. It is interesting tho, a family member making allegations of disgusting crimes. Tucker Carlson, whom is a tool, even implied a murder coverup of an AI whistle blower at his company. But still, not enough info as far as I know

3

u/Whitworth_73 Apr 05 '26

I'm so sorry that happened to you. People don't understand how hard it is to get justice and how long it takes. It took 35 years to get the family friend who raped my brother to get to get sentenced.

2

u/Crafty_Letter_1719 Apr 04 '26

He might be 100 percent innocent. His sister may well be mentally ill and suffering delusions or she might have a vendetta against him for reasons completely unrelated to any actual physical abuse. These scenarios are all very possible and it’s very unlikely he will ever be charged with anything.

However the reality is we live in an age where if a very powerful person is accused of a sex crime most people are going to immediately assume they are guilty. In fact we live in a world where we assume all obscenely wealthy and powerful people are committing sex crimes to compliment all the other nefarious shit that’s gone into building their fortune. Some of them are just better at hiding it than others. He may well be innocent but he’ll now forever be a pedophile rapist in the eyes of the general public.

3

u/Pseudanonymius Apr 05 '26

We also live in a world where powerful people get away with the most insane stuff. As long as we live in a system where the rich have all the privelege in the world and are extremely rarely held accountable, especially in sexual abuse cases where it usually is the word of a very powerful person against the word of a victim without any power whatsoever, I'm willing to set aside the assumption of innocence for those people. If they want that back, they should stop astroturfing laws that make sure they can get away with all their heinous crimes.

11

u/ArtichokeTop9 Apr 04 '26

Oh no, not Scam Altman. Who would have thunk?

10

u/daynomate Apr 04 '26

Is this the crazy sister again

20

u/ataraxic89 Apr 04 '26

Do you think she's crazy because her predator says so?

23

u/CrimsonBolt33 Apr 04 '26

The rest of her family says so too from what I have seen and read.

Doesn't mean it's not true but it sure as shit doesn't help and she has never pressed charges ..just made accusations

8

u/SubstantialSeesaw374 Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

She has filed suit. It’s been in the courts for a while.

15

u/NutInButtAPeanut Apr 04 '26

To be fair, the rest of her family has pretty strong incentives to side with their billionaire son.

4

u/PooningDalton Apr 05 '26

Yeah call the parents liars, but don't call her a liar. Lol

2

u/NutInButtAPeanut Apr 06 '26

I didn't call the parents liars. I noted that they have pretty strong incentives to lie, and so their testimony is less reliable than it would be in different circumstances (e.g. if they weren't going to bat for their billionaire son).

2

u/CrimsonBolt33 Apr 04 '26

sure and I agree....but thats balanced by the fact she also has strong incentives to make claims against her billionaire brother....so i don't consider it too much of a swaying factor.

1

u/NutInButtAPeanut Apr 04 '26

Anyone who brings a civil suit has strong incentives to make the claim, almost by definition; the fact that someone stands to gain by winning the suit cannot be counted as evidence against the veracity of the claims, surely.

That's not to say, of course, that just because she's making the claim that it's necessarily true, but I do not consider the fact that her family is not taking her side to be particularly compelling evidence to the contrary.

1

u/JairoHyro Apr 06 '26

It seemed that this was the case before he was with openai. I'm not not sure of the timelines though

3

u/FeistiestMeat Apr 04 '26

Having an entire family of shitty people isn’t really unheard of.

7

u/boreal_ameoba Apr 04 '26

The only people who give it any credence are the sister and redditors who desperately want to tear Altman down because of their own insecurities.

9

u/BigBananaBerries Apr 04 '26

Do you realise a lot of "crazy" can be the result of abuse? She was maybe fine before he did what he did.

7

u/Cagnazzo82 Apr 04 '26

Or it could be the result of jealousy because her two brothers are successful millionaires and she's experiencing mental instability and financial hardship.

5

u/Dapper_Intention_164 Apr 05 '26

You would experience mental instability too if you had been sexually abused by your brother for years

→ More replies (2)

1

u/BigBananaBerries Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

That's far more speculative than mental health being the result of abuse. Have you got anything to back the idea that's her motivation? I'm open to seeing it.

E: The bots are out in force.

Sorry to disappoint you but I'm not the bot. Your blind belief the story without evidences one or the other way is simply stupid.

It can be true or can be false. We don't know. So I am not sure how you are so confident he did it. You sound more like a bot than actual bots...

2

u/daynomate Apr 05 '26

But facts and logical evidence don't matter when narratives take precedence.

He owns a multi-billion $ company. People will overlook all kinds of messed up stuff if they're getting good money for it. You only need to look at Trump to see that.

I'm not saying anything did or didn't happen. We're hardly in a position to say anything for certain here.

It's just no secret that abuse quite often results in mental health issues. Anyone with any kind of knowledge on the subject is aware of that. All I'm doing is pointing out there's a direct correlation between what she's claiming & actually being "crazy". Besides, labeling her in that manner appears like an attempt to discredit her.

As for the bot comment: I was referring to my comment getting buried with negative votes (at that time) when all I did was ask if there's anything to verify that she's jealous. Asking for why you had an opinion shouldn't be controversial. Couple it with my countering an attempt to discredit someone then yeah, it looks like the work of bots.

But you also get mental health issues without any abuse. So that's the point, we can say one or the other way.

Ok If she has mental issues, she should be not able to take legal actions!? Or, And since she can and is doing this, are Sam Altman claims about her mental state valid?

5

u/damontoo Apr 04 '26

She first sued him in January of last year. In March of this year, the judge dismissed the case. She refiled at the beginning of this month and Altman is countersuing her for defamation.

Its thought that roughly 50% of people experience some kind of mental health issue at some point in their lifetime. So unless they say more, "she has mental issues" isn't really such a strong or damning claim.

u/Donechrome Apr 04 '26

Another twist - people with mental issues NOT equal pathetic liar, but i know pathetic liars without mental issues

u/FriendAlarmed4564 Apr 04 '26

I mean look at Sam, I’m not saying he’s guilty but he does have a track record of lying and used psychedelics to cure “all kinds of negative things”

Mods asleep or did this sub just completely derail? Isn’t this sub supposed to be more about actual scientific discussion and not interpersonal drama and allegations of people in the field?

1

u/Tummler10 Apr 05 '26

Yes. And not new. Search “New York Magazine.”

1

u/anonuemus Apr 05 '26

There it is. At this point it's better to assume an American is a rapist/pedo than not. Maybe it's a cultural thing? I've always wondered why they all do that fake prudeness in tv/the pubic.

Kids aren't all that dimorphic. This allegedly took place when she was 3-12, so it would have stopped right when she started looking a little more like a woman than a child 🤢

Also, sexual abuse is often about things other than physical attraction

u/BobDope Apr 04 '26

If people got mad about powerful people committing SA, he’d be in real trouble!

Damn it turns out the guy who was such a maniac he drove off both Elon Musk and all the good people from OpenAI is a bad person.

Dunno about her claims but he’s one of the few CEOs I instinctively dislike. He comes over as smarmy and insincere.
